Brock's Clock

Brock held the ball the longest yet against the Seahawks during this three game winning streak, 3.41 seconds, while the offensive line has been ticking up in pass block win rates. Against Tampa it was 60% good for their 5th best outing, Jags 68% good for 3rd best and most recently against the Seahawks 76% good for their 2nd best. I attribute this to a confluence of things starting with the return of Trent Williams, Purdy getting more comfortable manipulating the pocket, and his willingness to look downtown for the big play. Not sure he'll get to hold the ball as long against Philly given they rank 5th in pass rush win rate, and opposing quarterbacks averaging 2.66 seconds to throw, which is the 2nd fastest in the NFL.

Gameday Week 12: 49ers vs. Seahawks

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Hope you had a wonderful day and ready to enjoy this live blog for 49ers football. Tonight we have a divisional matchup between two teams that hate each other. The winner will control their own destiny on their way to a divisional title. Both teams come into this game with key injuries. For the 49ers, both starting guards are questionable and of course their starting SS is out for the year with an ACL. For the Seahawks, Geno Smith is questionable and Reed(S), Walker(RB), Young(WR), and Lucas(OT) are all out or listed as doubtful. Shanny should employ a lateral running game to make their defensive line run sideline to sideline and soften up the middle of the field to mixup some runs inside. I expect Kittle to have a big day matched up against Adams because he can't cover him. Avoid the false starts and holding penalties, stop the Seahawks rushing attack forcing the game into Geno's hands and the 49ers should win this game handily. 27-10 Go Niners!

Brock Ness Monster

Highest adjusted net yards per attempt in NFL history over a full season:

1. 2004 Peyton Manning: 9.8 2. 2011 Aaron Rodgers: 9.4 3. 2023 Brock Purdy: 9.1*

That's pretty good comany, wouldn't you agree?

Gameday Week 11: Buccaneers vs. 49ers

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the live blog for 49ers football. It's Fred Warner's birthday and I'm sure he'd like nothing better than a win. To do that he'll need his defense to shut down those screens. Tampa has no running game but they use the long handoffs to compensate. They've been force feeding the ball to Evans and Baker hasn't been turning the ball over. He has a qbr of 82.6 against man coverage, while 48.8 against zone. The Bucs defense ranks 8th in points allowed due to their takeaways and redzone efficiency, which ranks number one at 32% on giving up TD's. They also are blitz happy and rank 3rd highest in that category. Winfield Jr. is the player the 49ers need to look out for. He's flying around getting the ball out and taking it away. Ryan Neal(SS) is the player the 49ers should look to target as he's allowed 4 TD's, 20/23 for 387 yards. If the 49ers can finish drives and protect the football they should win this game handily. 34-10 San Francisco. Go Niners!

Franchise QB?

Brock Purdy Career NFL Ranks since merger

(among 339 QB with 400+ attempts) Rank Pass Rating 108.9 1st Comp pct 68.1% 1st Yards/Att 8.8 1st Pass TD/Att 6.7% 1st

Looking more and more like Shanny has found his franchise quarterback to me. What say you?

Purdy's tight-window throw percentage is 10.8%, which is third lowest in the NFL, a sign that he isn't often forcing the ball to someone who isn't open. For context, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has the lowest percentage in the league in this category.

Doesn't matter what coverage Purdy has faced, he's the only one that's posted positive efficiency numbers against them all.

Team reminds me of the 1984 Niners with Tyler and Craig. Wouldn't surprise me if they ran 21 personnel that much too.

Gameday Week 10: 49ers vs. Jaguars

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the gameday blog for 49ers football. Today the 49ers find themselves coming out of their bye week riding a 3 game skid. They'll look to turn things around against the Jaguars who are coming out of their bye with a league leading 5 game winning streak. For the 49ers they get back Deebo Samuel and possibly Trent Williams. It may not be new or sexy but in order for the 49ers to win this game they'll need to stop the run and run the ball. They were a top run stopping defense last year and have dropped to ranking in the 20's so far this year. DC Wilks will be on the sidelines for the  first time this year hoping to correct some communication breakdowns. Should be an interesting matchup and a big challenge for the 49ers. This game seems like a nail biter with the Niners coming out on top 24-20. Go Niners!

Chasing A Championship

How will the acquisition of Chase Young (#92) help the 49ers? The defensive front is applying plenty of pressure but they aren't stopping the run and their coverage isn't sticky. Young hasn't been great against the run. If you cannot stop the run and force 3rd and 7 or longer, the pass rush isn't going to matter. The 49ers believe they have the personnel in house to improve their coverage but if it isn't Womack or Luter, I'm not sure who they're talking about. Oliver is an opposing quarterbacks gift to completions allowing 115.6 completion rate. Lenoir looks like a much better fit as the Nickel Corner. This just in:

Samuel Womack, Darrell Luter and Robert Beal returned to practice today.

Purdy Good

Looks like Brock Purdy has been the most efficient quarterback operating from the 4th lowest clean pocket in the NFL.
