Purdy Good

Looks like Brock Purdy has been the most efficient quarterback operating from the 4th lowest clean pocket in the NFL.

  1. I wonder what those stats would look like if they only used the last three games

    1. Coach,
Since many numbers have been provided to promote Purdy’s stats line.
Here's a sobering (and controversial) fact. Kaepernick won 4 playoff games and made a SB appearance. A tough fact to swallow, but true.
Purdy has won 2 playoff games by comparison. If stats and numbers are being tossed out, add playoff wins as well.
Before mentioning Purdy’s name in a Joe Montana and Steve Young conversation, perhaps we should pump the brakes until he out- shines CK.

  2. Comparing Kaepernick to Purdy is silly. The character difference alone is huge. One was a flash in the pan that didn't give two fucks about perfecting the art of playing the position and relied solely on his athleticism.

Providing Purdy's stats are not an attempt to "promote" him. They speak for themselves and were provided to allow for discourse in a new thread. However, Shanny has spoken about the young quarterback glowingly by calling him the real deal, and he trusts him more than any other quarterback he's ever had. More than Matt Ryan! I'll leave Shanny to the promoting, and throw out a congratulatory shout out to Lynch for his.

    1. Neither, am I attempting to promote CK. Just giving facts. I don't give 2 cents about CK, but he has won two more playoff games then Purdy and made a SB appearance.

As far as character goes, Alex Smith was one of the best character guys in all of football. So, good character is not a prerequi site for winning.
I admire how far Purdy has come given his draft status and comeback from a potentially career ending injury. But, I'm in total agreement with Jed York, the 49ers are about winning Superbowl's. Hopefully, Purdy will be behind Center when that happens. For now, stats and character don't mean much.

  3. It must things be a bye week. You know how I can tell? CK is brought up. How bout we just stay away from him. You can't bring up a football related post with CKs name involved without things disintegrating into arguments about character Etc. He is a flash point for very strong gut level emotional responses for everyone. The old saying that there are 3 subjects that you shouldn't bring up should be changed to 4 subjects including CK. imho

  4. Coach,
OK, I should have said, that there was a guy not long ago that has a better playoff record and SB appearance than Purdy without mentioning any names.
BTW, it wasn't my intent to have the moderator to drop an F-bomb. I'll be the bigger person and take some time off from this blog.

  5. You can bring up Kaepernick all you want. We don't worry about dropping f-bombs on this blog. We're all grown men who have different opinions. Alex Smith was the smartest quarterback in the league, and Kaepernick benefited a great deal from his mentorship.

  6. I would add that "character" makes the man. When your character is right, your work ethic is right, and men will follow you. Character is why players like Foster are no longer with this team.

  7. IMO, we can agree, disagree, agree to disagree, or in my case, just ignore the Kaepernick VS Purdy comparisons. WHY? Because Kaepernick is history, he's never going to play another down in the NFL. Purdy is the 9er QB, until JL and KS decide he's NOT!
What I do care about is, fixing the reasons the 9er have lost the last
3 games! And that problem, IMHO, rest with DC Wilks!

John Lynch told The Athletic's Tim Kawakami on "The TK Show" podcast. "I think he's got what it takes. We obviously all have to show that. I know the players believe in Steve, and you can hear that in a lot of their comments and the way they feel, and that it's on them.
    A) I must have missed "the players saying they believe in Steve" (Wilks)?

With a Week 10 matchup against the Jaguars, the 9ers, at 5-3, need to get back on track! An adjustment from Wilks will play a major part in that. While JL may have faith his DC will deliver, MY QUESTION IS, WHAT HAPPENS IF HE DON'T? DOES JL MAN UP, ADMIT HE WAS WRONG....AND MAKE A CHANGE? TBD!

    1. I have a feeling that if the 49ers were going to move on Wilks they would have done it this past week. The only way I see them firing Wilks is if they lose another 3 in a row and by then their season is over. There are 3 keys to the 49ers season from here on. Wilks, Purdy and the Oline. If two of those subjects can return to the level they were at during the first 5 games they can make the playoffs. If all 3 return I believe they will make the NFCCG

I've posted in the past that I don't believe the 9ers will fire Wilks during the season, although I must admit that belief is changing! I'm not that convinced it would take 3 more losses before Wilks is fired.
    * If Wiks continues running "his" defensive scheme, VS the scheme that made the 9er D one of the best in the NFL, I'm not convinced it
will take 3 more losses to get him fired.
    * The 9er FO is already feeling the heat for Wilks D being responsible losing the last 3 games.
    * With the addition of DE Young, that only adds to the pressure for
Wilks and the 9er D to "step up!"
    * IMO, Purdy INT's will stop when 1) The O-Line pass defense improves, and 2) The O-Line opens holes for CMC and the 9er RBs
to run thru, moving the chains, controlling the clock and taking the pressure off Purdy to win games! Both Deebo and TW returning should help eliminate that problem. With Feliciano replacing Banks at LG, it remains to be seen how well the pass blocking holds up?
    * With the 9er schedule showing the Jaguars, TB, Seattle, Eagles
and then Seattle again, there is little, to no margin for losing.

    1. I would add a #3 on Purdy pics, when the defense can stop someone so Purdy isn’t playing from behind.

  9. NFL week nine 2023 games to watch with desired outcome:
    1) Eagles VS Cowgirls......Hold my nose, try not to gage and root for cowgirls to win!
    2) Baltimore VS Seahags: Baltimore shuts out the Seahags and scores over 30 points!

    1. NFC West scored 6 points on Offense today, in 3 games!

We are 1st in the West without even playing. Bye week already doing wonders. :)

Lets hope Wilks took notes how the Ravens defense dismantled the Seahags, allowing only 3 points!

  11. Texans game was very entertaining....Demeco has them ready to play every week. Lost Kicker for 2nd half, but Running Back was kicking field goals! They got a QB too..... Rookie QB is setting records with 5 TDs today....Texans will be very good next year!
