Entering Day 4, the 49ers have... -68 of 90 roster spots filled -6 picks in NFL Draft -~$325m in 2026 liabilities -Roughly $10m in '26 salary-cap space (with ability to open more) -About 5 spots on a projected 53-man roster up for grabs

  1. Osa missed ONE tackle last season on almost 700 snaps. Maybe that rubs off on everyone else.

  2. Over the last eight seasons, only Tyreek Hill has more receptions and receiving yards on targets of 20+ yards downfield than Mike Evans.

In Brock Purdy's four seasons, he has completed 53.2% of his 20+ yard targets, second best in the NFL.

    1. Yep, this is what I was telling GEEP when he said Evans wasn't a vertical threat. He isn't a burner, never has been, but he's good at stacking a DB and then using his overwhelming size to be open downfield. He's the guy that's consistently drawn double teams and opened everything up for the Bucs other receivers for years.

With all due respect, what I said was Evans is not a burner! His 40 times when he was drafted were ~4.55s and now, likely at ~4.65s. That he was a red zone threat and at this point in his career, a premier contested-catch receiver, IE at 6'5" x 230 and long arms he'll go up and get the ball over DB hanging on.

      Delete
    3. And you said he therefore wasn't a deep threat.

You can argue with Evans stats...Not me
      * Throughout his career, Mike Evans has primarily made most of his catches in the intermediate range (10–20 yards downfield) and along the sidelines, rather than the deep vertical or short red zone areas.
      * 10–20 Yards Downfield (Intermediate): This is where Evans accumulates the most volume. He is a master of the 12–15 yard "out" or "comeback" route, using his 6'5" frame to shield defenders. His consistent 1,000-yard seasons (11 consecutive) are built on these high-percentage intermediate gains.
      * Sidelines (Outside the Numbers): Evans is famously known as a boundary receiver. He uses his size to win 50/50 balls against the sideline, often making catches just before going out of bounds.

    5. Yes, Evans is a complete WR.

He's consistently in the top 10 for 20+ yard receptions. And that's not a result of YAC.

So he absolutely is a deep threat, always has been, and it's bonkers to say otherwise. He's just not only a deep threat.

      Delete
    6. Like I said Scooter, you can argue with Evans stats, not me.
      * True or False: WR Mike Evans has consistently been in the top 10 for 20+ yard receptions throughout his career?
      * False. While Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans is exceptionally consistent—holding the record for the most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start a career—he has not consistently been in the top 10 for 20+ yard receptions every year. He is a deep-threat specialist with high 20+ yard totals, but his season-by-season rankings fluctuate outside the top 10 in that specific metric, despite leading in total receiving yards since 2014.

      Delete
    7. Where are you getting your source from? If not top 10, top 15. He's right up there every year bar last year.

      Delete
    8. Mike Evans has 207 career reception of 20+ yards, out of his total of 866 receptions. Nearly 25% of his receptions are 20+ yards. Between 2018 and 2024 he averaged 20 20+ yard receptions a year. But sure, not a deep threat.

      Delete
    9. Scooter
Now you want to change the goal posts? Really?
If memory serves, Evans has been in the top 10 for 20 yard
receptions...first time (I maybe wrong on the years), I believe was 2018 and again in 2020...Feel free to look it up.
This is not a contest Scooter, if you want the fact you can look them up. We've disagreed on WR's before, I admitted I was wrong, I suggest you do the same.

      Delete
    10. Sure, I was wrong, he may have been just outside the top 10 some years. He's nothing more than a possession WR, you're right.

      Delete
    11. Full list of where he's ranked in 20+ yard reception leaders since 2014, in order of years from 2014 to 2025: 8th, 5th, 18th, outside top 25, 2nd, 13th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 12th, 19th, outside top 25 (injured). So sure, not always in the top 10, but pretty damn high every year.

    12. To whom it may concern:

      * Sorry Scooter, that statement is FALSE.
      * FACT: Throughout his career, Mike Evans has primarily made most of his catches in the intermediate range (10–20 yards downfield) and along the sidelines, rather than the deep vertical....As I said, you can claim what ever you want, but

    15. Yay, you got me, he isn't quite top 10 every year. The bum.

So what, are you suggesting top 15-20 in some years means he isn't a deep threat?

Do you think Tyreek Hill is a deep threat?

    2. They gonna draft his replacement at 27 or use a 4th to move up for "their" guy?

      Delete
    3. Well, we know they typically draft for need early. And the way the roster currently looks... I'd say that a pass rushing edge is now their biggest immediate hole.

      But still time in FA.

  6. Greenlaw back on 1 year deal

  7. The 49ers save $5.392M in 2026 & $11.708M in 2027 with Bryce Huff retiring.

  8. Good to have Dre back. I know Fred would agree as well. Not so sure how you guys feel, but I don't view him as a starter anymore.

    ReplyDelete

    1. He had his best year yet as a tackler, but I hope the contract is incentive laden. I'll look at it like anything we get from him will be a bonus.

      Delete
    2. If healthy, he's the starter next to Fred.

I suspect they'll try to move Dee Winters for a day 3 pick.

      Delete
    3. Greenlaw got us a 4th round comp pick and returns to the 49ers like a trusted agent!

      Delete
    4. Lets hope Dre can stay healthy! For a team that's suffered an inordinate amount of injuries the past couple of years, JL has signed several players that run the risk of spending time on IR.

While Evans has drawn the most press, IMO, Osa may turn out
to be the free agent that has the biggest impact.

While I don't believe it will happen, there are reports saying the 9ers could trade TW if they can't resolve the $38.84 Mil. salary cap hit problem. Also a $10 Mil option bonus due 03/20/2026.

  11. Now sign Jordan or J. Bosa, Draft edge in the 1st round, IOL in the 2nd and 2 WRs in the 4th. If they can accomplish that I would consider it an A- off season (as long as they get TWs contract done)

    1. Coach, my guess is they will be after edge guys that are a bit smaller and bring a speed rush element.

    2. Speed baby and ability to drop and cover in space would be ideal.

    3. I really think Ebiketie will be the next signing.

    4. Scooter,
Would Ebiketie improve the 9ers pass rush that much?

      Delete
    5. No, he's a guy you prefer to be part of a rotation. Would still want to draft someone high.

I just don't see them adding another big DE with Mykel and White already there. When pass rushing you need to be able to attack 3 depths in combo - 3 step, 5 step and 7 step - to prevent the QB being able to avoid pressure by moving within the pocket. At the moment they really only have Bosa that can attack the 7 step drops.

    6. Scooter
Do you see the 9ers signing Cashius Howell? If not, Romello Height or R Mason Thomas?
Of the 3, Howell is IMO, the best fit of the 3.

      Delete
    7. Yes to all 3 - all should be considered options for the 49ers.

I'm also not ruling out Anthony Hill Jr.

  12. Sources: DT Caleb Banks suffered a broken foot at the Combine that will sideline him until June.

The injury happened the night before his on-field testing. He performed a partial workout not knowing the extent of the injury. The fracture of the fourth metatarsal was surgically repaired by Dr. Norman Waldrop on March 9.

He was a boom or bust player like Kinlaw. I had questions about his feet. Big men with bad feet are no bueno and off my board.

    1. Given he missed last season with a foot issue, doesn't bode well for his long term availability.

  14. The 49ers are among teams to have a visit schedule with Texas Tech EDGE Romello Height, per Ryan Fowler:

Height is 6’3, 230lbs and 25-years-old. He’s a pass rushing specialist that totaled a 17.5% pass-rush win rate the last two seasons.

    1. If Hobbs can stay healthy he will be a sold addition, better than Luter. With the Raiders he was used as a blitzer quite often. With Morris's penchant for blitzing he might fill that role. Speaking of blitzing I am really hoping Nick Martin can overcome his concussion issues. He could really be a weapon in Morris's scheme

  18. The 49ers are at $23.554M under the 2026 salary cap, but that doesn't include Evans, Hobbs, Toth, Dre, Pineiro, & Tonges' deals, which should take up the majority of the $23.554M, Bosa redo would save $17.104M, and the TW extension saves up to $16.728M.

    1. Problem with that (as I understand it) is the team has to finish one or both of those renegotiations before they can sign anymore FAs. Also they have to leave enough room to sign their rookie class

  19. Hobbs

Pro Football Focus commented, "One of the best run defending corners in football since entering the league."

  20. Nate Hobbs’ in 2025 usage shows real versatility:
    • Outside CB: 209 snaps (63%)
    • Slot CB: 87 snaps (26.2%)
    • LB: 35 snaps (10.5%)
