Yep, this is what I was telling GEEP when he said Evans wasn't a vertical threat. He isn't a burner, never has been, but he's good at stacking a DB and then using his overwhelming size to be open downfield. He's the guy that's consistently drawn double teams and opened everything up for the Bucs other receivers for years.

DeleteWith all due respect, what I said was Evans is not a burner! His 40 times when he was drafted were ~4.55s and now, likely at ~4.65s. That he was a red zone threat and at this point in his career, a premier contested-catch receiver, IE at 6'5" x 230 and long arms he'll go up and get the ball over DB hanging on.
And you said he therefore wasn't a deep threat.

Where are you getting your source from? If not top 10, top 15. He's right up there every year bar last year.
DeleteMike Evans has 207 career reception of 20+ yards, out of his total of 866 receptions. Nearly 25% of his receptions are 20+ yards. Between 2018 and 2024 he averaged 20 20+ yard receptions a year. But sure, not a deep threat.

Now sign Jordan or J. Bosa, Draft edge in the 1st round, IOL in the 2nd and 2 WRs in the 4th. If they can accomplish that I would consider it an A- off season (as long as they get TWs contract done)

DeleteI just don't see them adding another big DE with Mykel and White already there. When pass rushing you need to be able to attack 3 depths in combo - 3 step, 5 step and 7 step - to prevent the QB being able to avoid pressure by moving within the pocket. At the moment they really only have Bosa that can attack the 7 step drops.

ReplyDeleteThe injury happened the night before his on-field testing. He performed a partial workout not knowing the extent of the injury. The fracture of the fourth metatarsal was surgically repaired by Dr. Norman Waldrop on March 9.
He was a boom or bust player like Kinlaw. I had questions about his feet. Big men with bad feet are no bueno and off my board.
Given he missed last season with a foot issue, doesn't bode well for his long term availability.

Cassius Howell fits that type like a glove. Just not sure he makes it to 27.
They got an extra 4th to move up a little if they feel compelled to do so.

ReplyDeleteIf Hobbs can stay healthy he will be a sold addition, better than Luter. With the Raiders he was used as a blitzer quite often. With Morris's penchant for blitzing he might fill that role. Speaking of blitzing I am really hoping Nick Martin can overcome his concussion issues. He could really be a weapon in Morris's scheme
DeleteThe 49ers are at $23.554M under the 2026 salary cap, but that doesn't include Evans, Hobbs, Toth, Dre, Pineiro, & Tonges' deals, which should take up the majority of the $23.554M, Bosa redo would save $17.104M, and the TW extension saves up to $16.728M.
