Hoping we get Valdez, Eason, Dinkins, Grimes, Pauling, Worth on PS. Luter Jr will be a bonus, but highly unlikely.

DeleteIMO, the two positions that are NOT the most critical, but could affect the 9ers success this season, are L-OG and S. If you're right about Will's, hats off to you for being right. If not, it's a problem the 9er FO will need to fix.
The second position is Safety! Malik Mustapha is practicing after a training camp hamstring strain, but he has been inconsistent. Ji'Ayir Brown is expected to be a starter, but has yet to prove that his is. Marques Sigle: Looked good, has shown potential, but untried as a full-time starter. And resigned Siran Neal is an elite ST player.
IMO, the Rams game in Melbourne will be a litmus test for both positions.
NOTE: IMO, the most critical positions are the D-Line putting pressure on the QB and stopping the opponents run game.

9 rookies made the 49ers 53R. If we count Rourke, James, and Watkins that missed most of last season, the team has replenished themselves with a very good youth movement.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Evans, Stribling, Kittle, Kirk, Watkins, Deebo could give Purdy the best WR corp since he became the starter.
Needing to trade for a backup IOL isn't ideal, sucks that Toth had to go season ending IR. The OG/ C group looks way too bare for my liking. Willis has to be capable and they can't get any injuries or it could get pretty dire.

in football shape? My best guess is Shula will use him on 3rd down to pressure BP. If he's still strong after the 1st Qtr., they'll play him more?
Donald claims he's worked out intensely during his retirement, spending 14 weeks quietly rebuilding his football fitness and even flying a speed trainer to Los Angeles to prepare for his comeback.
Game 1, is never an indicator for me. The best indication of the team comes 4-5 games into the season.
ReplyDeleteIt's a long season. My strong assumption is that the 49ers are making the post season. Hopefully, C.Willis or someone else can be up to the task to go against the Rams and Seahawks down the stretch.
Back in the day, when they were doing two-a-days at Rocklin, we knew from the opening game what the team was all about. Now it takes a few games into the season to really see the makings of the team.

Glad to see the 9ers picked up RB McCormick for the PS, IMO he earned it. I also believe McCormick Is more dependable than RB Issac Guerendo.
Delete49ers also plan to sign OL Foster Sarell to their practice squad, per source. Sarell, who played collegiately at Stanford, can play both tackle and guard. He’s appeared in 41 games (started four) for the Chargers over his career.

DeleteIt will take a yeomans job to stop Seattle and the Rams offenses. Two of the best WRs in the league reside in our division with Nacua and Njigba. Stafford and Darnold are proven QBs. If the 49ers can beat these teams twice each, I'll be ecstatic. If the 49ers can split with both teams, I'll be happy. The 49ers could likely face one of these teams to play in the Superbowl. The 49ers will need all their heavy hitters to play throughout the season to make this possible.

ReplyDeleteI agree re Darnold. He doesn't scare me either. But, like Stafford, he does have a SB win. Seattle will be in the thick of a SB run, imho.
49ers will need to hit in all cylinders this year.
Niners are going to have to play outstanding football to win the NFC West. Both the Rams and Hawks are going to be tough.

ReplyDeletePlay action boot concepts with half field reads are very different than play action from the pocket. Stress defenses in very different ways, the latter with a greater payoff.
Stop the run and for the most part it stops play action.

ReplyDeleteThat's a nice move by the Raiders. In all honesty the Bay Area rivalry has lost its steam since the raiders moved to LV. Little did Al Davis know at the time that his assistant RB coach Bill Walsh would one day be regarded as one of the best head coaches in the history of the game.
