3t Penetrator

 Dianna Russini

@DMRussini
TRADE: The 49ers are acquiring Cowboys DT Osa Odighizuwa, sources tell The Athletic. San Francisco is sending a third-round pick back in exchange to Dallas.

  1. This might be the first time Russini got something right. Scooter got it right with a 3rd Rounder. They've got flexibility now across all 3 of their most pressing needs for pick 27, WR, OG and iDL.

  2. Osa Odighizuwa was #4 in pressures and #5 in pass-rush win rate among DTs when he had the help outside, and he'll have it with Bosa and Huff.

    1. Big upgrade. Really good 3t. Probably not a blue chipper as such, but the next tier down and a genuine disruptive player.

    2. He's the type of guy who could make it to the pro-bowl off an on just due to his pass rush. While he is not a great all around tackle, he is very good in pass rush and this team desperately needs that skill.
Fan's often get hung up on base but when defenses are in nickel 2 to 3 times more often and most offenses are throwing 55% of the time that skill set becomes amplified more oftenn.

    3. Shoup, he replaces and upgrades Givens' roster spot.

    1. I suspect Osa will be one of the starting DTs, even on 1st downs. Question will be whether it's Collins or West as the other.

But they rotate a lot, so other guys will get plenty of snaps.

    2. 87 of 88 games of durability.

  4. With the 49ers down to 6 picks in the 26 draft with no picks in the 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th round they better make a little more noise in the FA market. 2 or 3 of the following FAs.Rasheed Walker, J. Bosa, Cam Jordan, J. Jennings, Joel Bitonio, Deebo, Chris Paul, AJ Espenesa, D. Greenlaw, Wyat Teller, Kevin Zeitler, Al-Quadin Muhammad. The longer these guys go unsigned the better chance the 9ers have of signing them to team friendly contract.

    1. There was a report that Steelers LB Patrick Queen might be available. If reports are true, Warner and Queen could be a dynamic dual.

    2. If they were after plug and play starters from day 1 and 2 this year, they are off to a great start. Their 3rd round pick is already their best DT.

    3. Over the past 2 seasons, DT Osa Odighizuwa has 50 pressures when lined up at DT, sixth most in the NFL.

In that same span, Niners DTs rank 29th in the league with 89. Odighizuwa's 50 are more than twice any individual Niner in that period.

    4. From Brandon Thorn.

Osa finished 10th among IDL in my True Pressure Rate metric in 2025 and 3rd in 2024. Consistently disruptive player. Slasher. Rare combo of being under 6'2" with 34+ arms. Plays with excellent snap timing & leverage.

    5. @Scooter. How do you think he compares to DJ Jones?

      Delete
    6. Oh he's better than DJ imo, cubus, but also quite a different type of player.

Jones was more a 1t that was able to shoot gaps pretty well for that position.

Osa is much more a 3t and far more regularly creates penetration and pressures.

  5. I like this trade. Mainly because we can't use the 3rd round pick on a freaking RB who won't contribute! ;)

  6. Georgia State WR Ted Hurst ran routes for NFL scouts at today's pro day and stood on his Combine testing (4.42 40, 36.5" vert, 11-3 broad).

No 3-cone or short shuttle for Hurst.

  7. I am still hoping that Morris brings a couple of "his" guys from ATL that he likes and knows what he wants to do scheme-wise....... Corner/S/LB

  8. Heres hoping for 2 or 3 more signings. I wonder how much they would have to pay J. Bosa or Cam Jordan?

    1. Next move likely is a Bosa restructure and Trent Williams deal, both of which will give them cap space. I think they're around $10M right now.

    2. Joey's only 30..... probably hoping for a 2-3 yr deal for good money before entertaining signing a "friendly" deal to play w his younger bro- and Bosas' don't seem keen to settle in negotiations...... we can only hope their mom's request for them to play together influences him.

  9. Well, this start to the FA period is going better than I thought it would. My main focus was to add 1-2 difference makers, ideally guys entering their prime. They've added 2, one in their prime, albeit via a trade.

Still need to have some young guys step up to be the next wave of elite talent, whether it be existing young guys on the roster or guys they draft this year. But as far as FA goes, pretty good imo.

  10. The Browns have released OT Jack Conklin.

  11. Pro Day Kentucky Jager Burton ends the pre-draft process as a 99.9% center prospect.

✅Posted elite 4.45 on the short shuttle
✅Improved vert + broad from Combine
✅Put up 28 reps on the Bench

Underrated in media rankings I've seen, but well liked by NFL clubs.

Don't be late: Day 2 grades from NFL clubs out there on him. Think he'll be drafted firmly among the top-6 centers 👀
