Lifetime

The 49ers quietly signed Kyle Shanahan to a contract extension in the offseason, per Tom Pelissero. I've said he should be the HC here until he no longer wants to be. Like a warranty, I'd give him a lifetime contract if I were the Yorks.

  1. Flock of Sigle:
    80.2 defense
    74.9 run defense
    89.0 tackling
    72.1 coverage

Four tackles, five assists, a defensive stop, and wasn’t targeted.

    1. His best game by far.

I couldn't tell watching live - were they rotating safeties, or is Mustapha no longer starting?

    2. Noticed Mustapha on special teams make a play. Didn't see him at safety.

That dime package of Morris' where he's pulling Greenlaw off and inserting Jones helped the safeties in my opinion. Might have also allowed more aggression upfront. Definitely some coverage manipulation going on that we haven't seen tied into the look upfront.

    3. Yep, can confirm he's the backup. Just 6 defensive snaps.

I thought the secondary played really well. Nice and aggressive in coverage. Actually played the ball for a change. I suspect we'll see a lot more INTs and PDs this year.

  2. One of the many things I was excited about this game was seeing Black getting plenty of action. Looks like they finally will make a concerted effort to keep CMC fresh, and that bodes very well.

  3. The Rams rebuilt their CB room by adding man-coverage specialists and played zone 77.8% of the snaps in Week 1, per Sumo Sports. Just 13.9% in man coverage.

  4. The 49ers offense featured motion at the snap on 65.6% of plays against the Rams, their highest rate in a game in the Kyle Shanahan era (since 2017). Kyle Juszczyk was in motion at snap on over half of snaps (17 of 33). No other 49ers player had more than five such snaps.

    2. I've learned this is a new wrinkle Shanahan added called "Dash" motion. It gets the fullback to a point where he can go any direction while running full speed.

    3. Weren't they doing Dash motion last year?

  5. Duggar is a weapon Morris is going to have cocked and loaded by November!

    1. Was really surprised to see him playing in 3 LB sets. Even more surprised to see him looking like he knew what he was doing for the most part.

  6. Overzealous Bill Plaschke needs to revise his Rams prediction of going undefeated after just one game. As someone said earlier, maybe Plaschke meant the Rams are going undefeated in America, lol.
