Good morning everyone and welcome to day 3 of the NFL draft. Let's take a look at who the 49ers were able to add on day 2: Drake Jacks...

I saw him yesterday at his press conference. Shanny's ego was on hand. The so called "genius" that passed on Mahomes and Wats...

It has been reported that the Ravens, Giants and Eagles have contacted the 49ers about Mac Jones. What player/players/draft pick should the 49ers get for Jones or should they hold on to him and take a comp pick for him in 28?
ReplyDeleteGiants? Didn't they just trade for McCarthy?
DeleteThis looks like a team that has a very opportunity to make the Super Bowl. I would keep Mac until after the playoffs. If something were to happen to Purdy during this run, Jones has proven that he could win in Purdy's stead. I don't believe that the 49ers are ready to trust Roarke this season.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right about them not trusting Rourke yet but I have been saying since they drafted him he might push BP eventually
DeleteI would trade Jones immediately if we could secure at least a second-round pick, then bring back Jimmy G. That said, any trade for Jones should align with the Niners using it this year to land a top prospect like Crosby. If not don't make the deal.
ReplyDeleteBucs beat the Falcons without completing a pass...
ReplyDeleteNiners first round picks that went to hall of fame. How much value is there in a first round pick?
ReplyDelete• Lance Alworth
• Jimmy Johnson (CB)
• Ronnie Lott (1981, 8th overall)
• Hugh McElhenny
• Leo Nomellini
• Jerry Rice (1985, 16th overall)
• Y. A. Tittle
• Patrick Willis (2007, 11th overall)
• Bryant Young (1994, 7th overall)
The HOF isn't the only way to measure the success of a 1st round pick. There have been plenty of very good players drafted in the 1st round who aren't in the HOF. Including N. Bosa, D. Buckner, Aldon Smith, M. Crabtree, J. Staley, V. Davis, D. Stubblefield, H. Barton, Cedrick Hardman, Bruce Taylor, Gene Washington, Forrest Blue, Ken Willard, Dave Parks, Billy Kilmer, Bernie Casey, Charlie Krueger, John Brodie and Earl Morrall
DeleteCouple of points:
ReplyDelete-I agree with you who believe Jones won't be traded this season. Yes, Jimmy G, if he's agreeable, might work, but that's a "might" and a risk I don't think they'll take. Of course, he might not be agreeable at all. But let's say he is, they sign him, trade Jones, and Brock goes down the following Sunday. JG will be rusty, and that could cost us a game or two and mean the difference re home-field advantage.
-Imo it looks like any "difference-maker" WR is out of reach for us this season, and that the only substitute we now have for Evans in the X role is DRob, which isn't bad. He's underrated. A second possibility is Stribling, not bad either as I think he'll be a gem, if he eventually returns. Let's assume he does. Then having DRob and Stribling as backups for that role is a blessing, imo.
I'm all for trading Mac, but the floor has to be a 2nd and a late day 3 pick in 2027. I would look to the Eagles and then Ravens as potential partners.
ReplyDeleteIf the floor is not met, then I would let Mac leave for a 3rd round comp pick in 2028.
I'm not as into the draft as most here, but even I know that 2027 draft has a lot of a great players....so that would be my preference.
I wonder if the ceiling would be higher for Roarke after next TC. If he has a good TC, perhaps the team would feel more comfortable making a move with Mac. A 2nd rd pick for him is very tempting. But, not at the risk of having to trust Roarke to march the 49ers into the playoffs if something happens to Purdy.
ReplyDeleteIf any team has called, they'd already know that it'll take a 1st round pick to get Jones. That's why I don't believe any team has called.
ReplyDeleteHe's worth more imo.
DeleteSeasoned
Accuracy off the charts
Strong arm
Tough as nails in the pocket
Schooled by Shanahan
You can be certain about him, as opposed to anyone coming out of college you'd pay a first round pick for.
C.J. West has changed jersey number from 99 to 90.
ReplyDelete$$$ - thanks Buck!
DeleteThe 49ers signed WR KhaDarel Hodge to the team’s practice squad.
ReplyDeleteJust that makes us better.
DeleteSpecial teams needs help.
DeleteWhile I doubt the team will trade Mac, I will say that right now is the highest value they'll get for him.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is. But, I believe that the 49ers have the SB in their cross hairs and with Jones gone and Roarke taking over if Purdy goes down it becomes very dicy.
