27-7 San Francisco
Brock Purdy leads the 49ers past the Rams in Australia. San Francisco executed in all 3 phases of the game, but Brockadile Dundee was impressive. He made the one faux pas but came back and finished with 3 TD's and 5 scrambles for 30 yards. The OL played a great game, and I thought Shanahan's play calling was fantastic. Morris is an upgrade over Saleh for mine, and Flock of Sigle might have played his best game since coming into the league. Morris has something with this dime personnel package. Greenlaw comes off for Jack Jones. Lenoir and Stout play in the slot. You take so much pressure off the safeties by having an extra coverage player, and it allows you to be more aggressive up front. The challenge now becomes can the 49ers recover in time for their next matchup in 10 days against the Miami Dolphins.

Good morning everyone and welcome to day 3 of the NFL draft. Let's take a look at who the 49ers were able to add on day 2: Drake Jacks...

I saw him yesterday at his press conference. Shanny's ego was on hand. The so called "genius" that passed on Mahomes and Wats...

San Francisco talked a big game but played small Saturday night against the Seahawks. The offensive game plan forced upon them without Tre...

Good win. The team played better than I'd expected. O line held up & it was good to see the screen game working. The offense will iron out the kinks over the next few games. Defense was stout with Fred in midseason form with Dre by his side. Morris is able & willing to make in-game adjustments to his D to offset weaknesses, especially on the backend.
ReplyDeleteLooked to me like the Rams were too scared of Purdy to get out of Nickel.
DeleteDustin Perry got himself a game ball!
ReplyDeleteThe 49ers offense featured motion at the snap on 65.6% of plays against the Rams, their highest rate in a game in the Kyle Shanahan era (since 2017).
ReplyDeleteKyle Juszczyk was in motion at snap on over half of snaps (17 of 33). No other 49ers player had more than five such snaps.
The run defense didn’t blow me away, but it came through when it mattered most. Overall, it was a solid game that set the tone for the rest of the season. I’m a bit concerned about Stribling and Tongas. Sixteen more wins to go...
ReplyDeleteMe and my canoe are off to eastern Oregon for about a week.
DeleteWest looked like he got moved South more than you'd like to see against the run. They likely need to trade for a 1t or bring up Anderson.
DeleteLT Trent Williams held Myles Garrett to one pressure across 11 pass blocking matchups in Garrett's debut with the Rams (all one-on-one situations).
ReplyDelete"Myles Garrett didn’t have a single tackle, sack or pressure in his much-hyped debut for the Rams on Thursday night, and afterward he said the 27-7 loss to the 49ers was as bad a game as he’s ever played."
DeleteProbably the best performance against one of the best defenders to ever play the game by an OT I've ever seen!
DeleteIf Garrett had to go up against TW throughout his career his sack numbers would be pedestrian at best.
DeleteBrock Purdy has the highest completion % by a QB in their first 50 career games in NFL history. Is this good?
ReplyDeleteFred Warner was the highest-graded player on either side of the ball yesterday for the 49ers 👑 Remains my greatest mock draft pick even though I had them taking him in Round 2.
ReplyDeleteHighest-graded 49ers on offense against the Rams:
ReplyDelete• Mike Evans: 77.9
• Colton McKivitz: 74.8
• Deebo Samuel: 74.4
• Jake Brendel: 74.0
• Brock Purdy: 69.2
• Trent Williams: 68.9
It was a total team win. All players did they're jobs at a high level. My biggest take from last night's game was the huge difference on defense in having Bosa and Warner back on the field.
DeleteHighest-graded 49ers on defense against the Rams (PFF):
ReplyDelete• Fred Warner: 92.2
• Nick Bosa: 86.2
• Upton Stout: 80.5
• Jack Jones: 70.6
• Keion White: 69.6
• Renardo Green: 68.9
Grades
ReplyDeleteQB A would have been an A+ if he hadn't thrown that Int I still cant figure out what he was thinking on that pass
OL A They really surprised me but I am still not totally sold
RB A CMC looked quicker than last year. Black is a future star. I wish they would activate James he must not be a good ST players
TE B didnt do much in the passing game but run blocking was superior
WR B 2 drops bring that grade down a little
DL C+ No sacks but decent pressure. Run D especially up the middle was lacking. Bosa was at the top of his game
LBs A Warner might just be better than P. Willis
DBs A+ the PI and illegal contact calls were sketchy at best. If Green can continue to play at this level it gives the 49ers 3 A level CBs as well as Jones playing really well.
STs A Coverage was great. I don't mind Eddie P missing a meaningless late game FG
The only real negative is losing 3 starters and one key backup in one week. If this trend continues like it has for 10 of the last 12 seasons they have no chance of even getting to the NFCCG
Pressures>Sacks
DeleteHow'd Nick Bosa look to you?
I said Bosa was at the top of his game. I thought he looked as good as he has since the SB season
DeleteCoach,
DeleteMy blood pressure rises when Brock throws Ints. But what I do like is that Purdy quickly puts his miscues behind him and continues to play at a high level. His 99 yard drive for a TD was executed with perfection.
OldCoach, I told you not to worry about Bosa!
DeleteI was really impressed with Fred. He is a 1st Ballot HOFer in my book. He has perfected the peanut punch.
ReplyDeleteWhat doesn't get talked about much is Osa's performance. He had 5 pressures just on his own. We just need one more penetrating DT alongside him to plug the holes. The rookie Halton looked good too.
Either CJ West or James Thompson Jr or maybe Evan Anderson needs to support these two.
Mykel Williams should be ready by the latter half of the season.
Hope the team slept well on the flight. They arrive back home at around noon today. One report said that they will be back on the practice field on Monday.
ReplyDeleteShanny signs a contract extension this off season. The days of leaks are over!! Lol
ReplyDeleteYorks might have to convince Shanny to get him to sign an extension. He may want to test the waters somewhere else. If he does, we're screwed.
ReplyDeleteExtension signed this past offseason
ReplyDeleteThat's terrific news. I figured they'd extend him for 6 years if they could. Didn't know it'd be so secret
ReplyDeleteChris Foerster is one hell of an offensive line coach. Wow! Reminds me so much of Bobb McKittrick.
ReplyDeleteThis is a question for my own edification. After the Rams could see that Garrett was not making any headway against big Trent, why wouldn't you move him to the other side and let him go up against McKivitz. Is it because Myles can only rush from one side, which seems doubtful?
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing he could only rush from one side due to his knee injury.
