Kyle Shanahan said Gus Bradley is the main internal candidate to replace Robert Saleh as the next defensive coordinator.
Nick Martin was cleared from the concussion protocol today.
John Lynch was asked what fractured Brandon Aiyuk’s relationship with the organization: “I wish I knew. I can’t help you there.” John Lynch says it's safe to say Brandon Aiyuk has played his last snap as a 49er.
Alfred Collins injured his shoulder against the Seahawks and it might require surgery during the offseason, per Kyle Shanahan.
Kyle Shanahan said they would like to re-sign Eddy Piñeiro, Thomas Morstead, and Jon Weeks if possible.
Nick Bosa is tracking towards a return in training camp, however there’s no official timetable for his return, per John Lynch.
John Lynch on the possibility of re-signing Jauan Jennings: “He plays the game the right way. We would love to have him back. We’ll work to accomplish that and see how it goes.”

I said it last July and I'll say it again; the 49ers need to find a way ($) to keep Jauan Jennings. This guy is the closes thing to a hard nosed Marine. He shows up and plays hurt and like Shanahan said, "plays with passion." Those types don't grow on the trees.
ReplyDeleteThe way to keep him is to pay him commensurate with market. What he's reported to be seeking is $20M+ a year.
DeleteAES
DeleteAs much as anyone on the blog, I've said I'd like to see the 9ers try to keep JJ. But with all the 9er position needs, how much can / will the 9ers allocate for one WR?
Spotrac projects Jauan Jennings' market value at ~$22.6 Mil AAV on a 3 year, $67.8 million total contract.
Possible 2026 free agent WR's the 9ers could sign for $10Mil. to $15 Mil AAV:
Alec Pierce: Coming off a 2026 1000+ yard season and led the league in yards per catch (21.3). He is a premier deep threat and, at 26, is entering his prime, likely commanding a deal in the $12-$15M+ range.
Wan'Dale Robinson: A high-volume receiver who proved his value with over 90 receptions and 1,000 yards in 2025. His reliability in the short-to-intermediate range and fits KS system. He'll likely fit into the $10-$13M range.
Romeo Doubs: A 26 y/o consistent producer with 21 career TD's He offers reliable hands and can fit into the $10Mil. to $14M AAV range as a dependable WR2 weapon.
Christian Kirk: Struggled in 2025, but his previous production (3-year, $60M+) makes him a candidate for a bounce-back, deal in the $13-$15M range.
Rashid Shaheed: An explosive WR and returner traded to Seattle in 2025. If he hits the market, he'd be in the $10-$12M range, Plus he'd add some much-needed speed.
It took Nick Martin 7 weeks to clear concussion protocol. I think he should consider retirement.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking along similar lines. Even if he doesn't retire, the 49ers simply can't rely on him if he's already getting severe concussions that take a couple of months to recover.
DeleteAbsolutely sucks, as I think he's got a lot of talent.
Niners signed OL Zachary Thomas to future/reserve contract.
ReplyDeleteJake Tonges has a plantar fascia injury and will take 3 weeks for recovery.
ReplyDeleteSeems pretty minor but plantar fasciitis can reoccur. I hope his doesn't. I believe he can hold down the TE spot until Kittle can return. He can't run the seam route like Kittle and he doesn't get YAC like Kittle but as a possession TE he kind of reminds me of Brent Jones

49ers Josh Williams, Director of Scouting and Football Operations, provided great insight on how they plan for every draft pick:
ReplyDelete"For every player we draft, we have a vision for them. We are constantly talking to our coaches, talking to each other, working collectively to have a vision for how they will make this team."
4th thru rd 7 is where the scouts need to make their money. UDFAs also comes into play in finding those diamonds in the rough. Hopefully, they can hit on those players in April.
ReplyDeleteI have been saying for years if it is a different group pulling the trigger on the first 3 rounds than are pulling the trigger on rounds 4 through 7 (including UDFAs) they should let the team that is drafting rounds 4 through 7 handle the whole draft
Delete"He plays the right way, and I think it frustrates other people. He makes us better. We'd love to have him back. We'll go to work to try to get that accomplished, and we'll see where that goes."
ReplyDeleteJohn Lynch
I hope that the FO leaves no stone unturned to find a way.
I came away from that thinking they have a $ amount they'd be willing to go to, but won't get into a bidding war.

DeleteJoshua Josephs (6’3 240) Tennessee
ReplyDelete+ 34.3% win rate on true pass sets
+ 3 forced fumbles in 2024 and 2025
+ Arm length (reported 34”)
+ 90.6 pass rush grade this year
+ 81 career pressures at Tennessee
+ High level athleticism
+ Times the snap really well
+ Variety of pass rush moves
+Impressive pursuit speed
- 23.5% missed tackle rate in 2025
- May weigh even less than 240 pounds and will need to add some bulk to his frame
- Part of a heavy rotation in college
- Needs to finish at a higher rate once he gets in the backfield
Draft projection: Day two
Rookie James Pierce led all rookie DL/Edge with 10.5 sacks and was listed at 6' 5" and 245 lbs. If a player like Joshua Josephs has the ability to pressure/sack the QB, he might be a steal on day two.
DeleteGood looking out, Razor.
Wake Forest RB Demond Claiborne please.
ReplyDeleteKendrick Law, WR, Kentucky
ReplyDelete- Top-tier athlete with decent size & a ton of juice after the catch
- Instantly erases pursuit angles & tightropes the sideline for extra yards
- 3.4% career drop rate
- Competitive run blocker
His route tree is a shrub
- Lowest ADOT among P4 receivers in 2025 (3.4)
- 57.6% (38/66) of his targets were flat routes or screens
- Average route depth (5.1 yards) was the 3rd lowest in the P4
There's potential as a route runner. He separated consistently on slants/outs/posts & is incredibly explosive out of breaks. Has ample nuance/salesmanship at the top of routes.
Round 4/5
Kyle's half hearted attempts to explain away the seasons of both JACOB COWING and JORDAN WATKINS fell on deaf ears! What a waste of potentially 2 valuable WR's down the stretch! WTF?
ReplyDeleteKeagen Trost, iOL, Missouri has some swing tackle versatility with 2,700+ career snaps at left (649) and right (2,077) tackle.
ReplyDeleteTechnician in pass pro with a sturdy anchor. Punch is powerful & stuns defenders on impact, but doesn't come at the expense of balance/precision. Foot speed is adequate, but not ideal for a tackle.
Great zone blocker, mauler at the 2nd/3rd level. Easily mirrors & connects to moving targets in space. Drive power & natural leverage creates massive rushing lanes. Day 3 grade.
Per next gen stats, CMC was -166 in rush yds over expected which was last in the NFL (to compare, Brian Robinson finished -6)
ReplyDeleteBut as a receiver, he had a 99 catch & 99 overall score compared to other RBs, which is the highest a player can have.

If the 49ers will trade Mac Jones do you think they wait until days before the draft or do the trade him before the FA signing period so they can sign a FA QB to replace him. I'm thinking Marcus Mariota.
ReplyDeleteI would guess SF would push it as close to the draft as possible. That said I would expect SF to include Mac quite a bit in the process as I would expect anyone trading for him would want an extension to the deal.In that scenario Mac has a lot of say.

ReplyDeleteMike Washington, Jr., RB, Arkansas reminds me of Brian Robinson.
ReplyDeleteRazor,
ReplyDeleteIf you can, please give a potential draft Rd on the players you present.
Great job in bringing these players to our attention.
Kaleb Proctor, DL, SE Louisiana is going to be one of those risers. 6-3 280. I'm guessing late day 3 with a chance to move up into late day 2.
ReplyDeleteSteve Young had a very realistic view of where the 49ers are at right now. He said the differences between 2024 and 2025 weren't that great, despite the vastly different records. And it's true - the difference in record is almost entirely due to massive swings in STs and RZ efficiency between the two years, which decided a lot of games both years.
ReplyDeleteI think when looking ahead to 2026 it's important to be realistic about where the team is. Talent wise they aren't really as good as the 12-5 record suggests. Not yet anyway. Even accounting for guys that missed the year due to injury.
This is why I think it's really important they don't go crazy this offseason trying to land 1 or 2 big ticket guys, thinking that'll be the catalyst to a 2026 SB run. Still need to keep building the foundation through the draft, though I do believe they need to start adding some true blue chippers rather than keep adding a bunch of solid guys.
Caden Barnett, OG, Wyoming, Played OT. Power lifter built like a brick shithouse with 35+ starts at 6-5, 320. Late Shrine Bowl invite. Round 5
ReplyDeleteRed Murdock with a little Fred Warner to his game. Early day 3 prospect out of Buffalo. 17 career forced fumbles with violent strike and rip cord.
ReplyDelete78% of Washington WR Denzel Boston receptions the past two years have resulted in a 1st down or Touchdown. Much higher than Tyson, Tate, Lemon, Brazzell, Bernard, or Concepcion, and it was with a sub-par quarterback.
ReplyDeleteHe looks really good to me. Used in a lot of ways that Shanahan would look to use him as well.
DeleteR.I.P. John Brodie. Will forever be my favorite 49er. The 1970 season will always be my favorite 49ers season. I don't usually become emotionally attached to pro athletes but I am truly saddened by his passing
ReplyDeleteI remember watching him as a kid.
DeleteBrodie was a childhood hero of mine and a big reason why I became a 49ers fan to this day.
DeleteOld number 12 lived to 90 yrs old.

Dallen Bentley, Utah, is a TE I'll be following closely in the draft process for the 49ers. Good size, good blocker, great hands, reliable receiver. My guess is he'll go round 3/4.

- 34.8% missed tackle rate

FA wish list......
ReplyDeleteScooter/Razor- thanks again for the blog work and the scouting reports (I don't watch a lot of college ball, aside from Texas and Oregon due to kids affiliation w them).....
I thought before we enter the draft, might be fun to see what everyone wants/where to spend $. The 49ers have done well trying to plug holes before the draft over the last couple of years.
For me, I am focusing on TE, DT, Edge, LG..... I first kick tires on Pitts but try and buy low on Likely/Njoku as I think grabbing a couple of potentially solid TE's will take pressure off of Cowings/Watkins/Pearsall/FA/Moore/ draft pick.
DT- Rankins, Ogujonbi- older but value/productive?
* J Bosa projected at $20/yr- would be nice if their mom pressured him to take $15 to play w his bro
Finally, some good news....
ReplyDelete49ers OC Klay Kubiak has decided he is going to stay in San Francisco under Kyle Shanahan.
49ers offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak has removed himself from consideration for head coaching vacancies, per sources. The Raiders and Steelers had requested to interview him. He prefers to keep working with Kyle Shanahan.

+ Work ethic to go from a 190 pound player at Central Arkansas, to one of the better linebackers in college
- Fifth-year senior
- Still developing his pass rush
- Awareness in zone coverage
- Can over-pursue the ball carrier
Draft Projection: Top 75
Jackson Kuwatch, LB, Miami Ohio 6-4 230 lbs. 109 tackles in 2025, 11 against Rutgers. 3rd team All-Mac honors. Shrine Bowl first practice showed his vision with an INT in cover 2 against 4 verticals.
ReplyDeleteDolphins hiring Bobby Slowik as their senior passing game coordinator. Likely Mac Jones' next team. Pick 43?
ReplyDeleteAdd a day 3 pick and I'm happy.
DeleteRazor/Scooter,
DeleteGreat trade I would go with #43 and a 5th round pick in 27. It is never too early to start loading up for next years draft.
My biggest fear this offseason is that the team puts such focus on adding speed that they pass up good players that will really help them long term.
ReplyDeleteExample, I think Denzel Boston would be a natural fit for this offense at X WR, but I can see them passing on him to add a speedy WR that isn't as good and replicates a lot of the skills Pearsall, Watkins and Cowing bring.
They could double dip at WR with a day 3 pick like Ted Hurst.
DeleteSome people fall in love with speed when it is actually route running that creates separation.
Delete💯 Coach. Usually that is what Shanahan looks for, but the comments about team speed at the end of season presser has me a little concerned.
DeleteRazor, I was thinking Eric McAlister as a day 3 option.
DeleteSpeed can be overrated, but speed can keep a secondary honest. It was clear Seattle had absolutely no respect for our WRs, which I think was one of the reasons their LB lauded Purdy - simply because Purdy had no one to throw to that they respected, yet he was able to extend plays and make some plays.
DeleteHaving said that I want speed with size. Current rumors are that the 49ers are interested in Addison. 5'11" and 175 lbs. How do you think he'll hold up against the Seattle defense. We need bigger receivers that won't be easily bullied off the LOS and will inflict some punishment to the secondary.
DeleteScooter, McAlister is fine by me.
DeleteInterest in Addison would seem to be a departure from their character criteria so I'd take that report with a grain of salt. Likely we'll hear a lot of Crosby and Jefferson trade rumors for the next few months too.
DeleteRegarding Addison, I imagine the 49ers would inquire about his availability, but I doubt they'd be willing to give up a lot for him.
DeleteWhen asking a few reps for one player that has popped in the first two days at the Shrine Bowl practices a common name comes up… New Mexico EDGE Keyshawn James-Newby (6’2”, 241). Former Idaho transfer had 168 (!) pressures & 25 sacks the last three seasons. Long, powerful pass rusher, name to know in April.

- 4 NFC Championships (2019, 2021, 2022, 2023)
- 6 playoff appearances
- Overall record: 94-71 (regular season), 10-7 (postseason)
- Developed stars like Purdy, Kittle, Bosa
Odds of reaching a Super Bowl: With 32 teams, ~6% per year per team, but factoring in parity, injuries, etc., it's ~1 in 16-20 seasons historically for most franchises.
Taurean York, Texas A&M, checks and lot of the boxes for the type of LB the 49ers like. Undersized, but very smart, athletic, plays fast and is a leader. Size likely makes him a day 3 pick.
ReplyDeleteJust got done with him. I really liked him, but I hate LB's under 6'.
DeleteSo not a fan of Greenlaw and Winters?
DeleteI got Greenlaw's autograph but he's 5'11 1/2 not 5'10.
DeleteI think York is going late 2nd/early 3rd round. Is that where you'd take him? He's stood out at the Shrine Bowl and fits the system, but his lack of length shows up on some of the tape I've watched.
I wouldn't take him that high. I think he's a day 3 pick.
DeleteI think he's rated 4th best in the draft class defending the pass.
DeleteYeah, he's good. I really like him. I think his height will make him a day 3 pick. If he was over 6' he's probably a 2nd/ 3rd rounder.

I was upset with the missed tackles by the 49ers defense this past season.
ReplyDeleteAccording to BET Sports, the 49ers defense had 88 missed tackles.
But surprisingly, the Rams and Denver had 82 missed tackles.
Big surprise, Seattle had 110 missed tackles. The difference was/is (for Rams, Broncos, Seattle) pressuring the QB,
Yeah, the missed tackles weren't that bad this year. Every team has them. What you want to avoid is missed tackles in space when there's nobody else to help out. 49ers had some, but even that was down this year. They did a good job in general of keeping the play in front of them and rallying to the ball.
DeleteAnd yes, the big difference is pressuring the QB. Which is why that and WR are the two areas I am hammering as the biggest needs this offseason.
DeleteScooter,
ReplyDeleteI tried, but couldn't find how many yards were gained due to those missed tackles. But, I suspect that those numbers were high as well.
Relative to league average per snap my guess is the 49ers performed pretty well in terms of yards allowed after contact.
