Controlling Their Destiny
San Francisco improves to 4-1 in the Division and 7-2 in the Conference. They host the 6-5 Panthers on Monday Night Football next week, who find themselves in the playoff hunt. Then at Cleveland in likely inclement weather, against a Schwartz defense with Myles Garrett. Finally a bye followed by hosting the Titans. They need to be 10-4 going into their final 3 game stretch against the playoff bound Bears, Colts and Seahawks to keep control of their destiny. Can they do it?

If not for all of those Cardinal penalties this game could have ended up 50-41 Cards. This D is really really bad
ReplyDeleteI counted two helmet to helmet hits on Brock they didn't call.
DeleteYeah the refs were bad in this game imo. And it mostly helped SF for once. The funny thing is I saw multiple holds they got away with on the pass game only to get flagged on plays that weren't necessarily holds.
DeleteI definitely caught one helmet to helmet hit Purdy. Someone help me here.. but can a head coach throw a Challenge flag to contest a referees no-call?
DeleteApparently, a head coach can't challenge a referees call. Perhaps this is something that the NFL should take a serious look at. Especially, given the bad calls of recent years.
DeleteCan a head coach throw a Challenge flag to contest a referees no-call?
DeleteNo. I couldn't even imagine what that would look like, lol.
AES, helmet to helmet semi-launch on Purdy in the pocket and the 2nd one occured on one of his scrambles to his left and as he let the ball go close to the sidelines the defender made contact helmet to helmet. Both should have been flagged.
ReplyDeleteThis is the 4th time a Kyle Shanahan led 49ers team has swept their NFC West road games in a season. 2019, 2022 and 2023 are the other three.
Watching Eagles v Lions. Campbell's 4th down gambles have been shut down tonight. He has potentially left 6 pts on the field so far.
ReplyDeleteRun defense was on point allowing 36 yards at 2.6 per carry.
ReplyDeleteNiners occupy the seventh and final spot in the playoff picture.
ReplyDeleteBrock Purdy was pressured on 25% of his dropbacks today. That's the fourth-lowest rate in his career. It's the fourth time in five games that the 49ers' offensive line has allowed no worse than a 25% pressure rate.
ReplyDeleteBrock Purdy & George Kittle (23) now surpass Steve Young and Brent Jones (22) in the most QB-TE touchdowns in Niners franchise history 🙌
ReplyDeleteRazor,
DeleteActually Alex Smith to Vernon Davis is #1. We forget how good of a receiver Davis was
Yes, Coach. And fast.
DeleteForgot how good of a receiver Davis was? Sure didn't start out that way and ended with Kam Chancellor living inside his head.
DeleteThe Seahawks are a league-worst 7 for 57 (12.3%) on 3rd and long this season. League average is 25.1%.
ReplyDeleteDespite 4 interceptions, Seattle only lost by 2 points to the Rams. Is Seattle the best team in the league? I’m not looking forward forward to another game with them.

The Bears, Packers and Lions are in a dog fight for the North, and still have a lot of games to play against each other. Very tough schedules. 49ers otoh have a pretty easy schedule, only have 1 division game left and have fared well against their division.
ReplyDeleteBodes well for the 49ers chances of making the playoffs from here.
I wouldn't characterize their final 3 games as part of that "pretty easy" schedule.
DeleteCompare that to the Bears, who have Packers, us and the Lions the last 3 games...
DeleteBears remaining schedule: Steelers, Eagles, Packers, Browns, Packers, 49ers, Lions.
DeletePackers remaining schedule: Vikings, Lions, Bears, Broncos, Bears, Ravens, Vikings.
Lions remaining schedule: Giants, Packers, Cowboys, Rams, Steelers, Vikings, Bears.
49ers remaining schedule: Panthers, Browns, bye, Titans, Colts, Bears, Seahawks.
Three of those teams will in all likelihood make the playoffs. Happy to hear your thoughts on who has the easiest schedule, but for mine it's the 49ers and Lions. And importantly, the North will be fighting amongst themselves a lot over that period.
We can take this to a new thread.
DeleteRedskins just released their kicker, Matt Gay. I wonder if we bring him in for a workout.
ReplyDeleteYET MORE 9ER PLAYERS INJURED, WILL IT NEVER END?
ReplyDelete* LB Tatum Bethune, who took over for LB Fred Warner, incurred an ankle injury in the first half of Sunday’s game.
After the game, KS said he did not have any additional details about the injury, but that there would be further tests, likely an MRI, done when the team returns to the Bay Area on Monday.
* Kicker, Eddy Piñeiro, suffered a hamstring injury while kicking an extra point in the third quarter of the 49ers' game against Arizona.
Sources indicate it was a Grade 1 hamstring strain. He's considered week-to-week, with the team planning to hold a kicker workout early in the week.
I think 7-4 is a testament to the character of this team.
