  1. If the 49ers are interested in Nolen, why wait until pick 17? For me, the only thing in this deal that stands out is the 3rd pick in 26 Blue is good, but his speed doesn't show up in games as much in watching his tape. Also, Blue had a dang good Oline to open holes.

I'm on the B. Tuten wagon, who has been a very productive RB sans the stars on his Oline.

  2. The 49ers offseason program dates have been announced:

    • First Day: April 22
    • OTA Offseason Workouts: May 27-28, May 30, June 2-3, June 5
    • Mandatory Minicamp: June 10-11

  3. Jalen Walker isn’t really an off the ball LB (UGA tried in ‘23). He wants to destroy moving forward at all times. I don't understand those that mock him in the top with that in mind.

    1. This is why I have a really hard time projecting him to thr NFL. He's very undersized and underdeveloped for a DE, but I don't like him at LB.

I think he needs to go to a 3-4 team.

  4. • Darien Porter – Iowa State

➖5.6% missed tackle rate (#1 in the class)
      ➖Coming off 6 INT season in 2024

  5. From Brett Kollmann.

Here's a fun CJ West stat for you.

Indiana's average depth on tackle against A-gap runs last season was just 2.11 yards. The next closest team was 2.75.

Indiana faced only 85 such runs, which was 104th in the country, but had 29 TFLs or no gains. That was 4th-most!

  6. West would look great ín a 49ers uniform.

  7. Nolen, Femi and West would make me very happy.

    1. I like Femi, but I think he is being overrated atm. When he was considered a day 3 steal I was right on board. Now I am hearing he could go as high as the 2nd, which is far too high imo.

Earliest I'd take him is where you have - 3rd round comp pick. Though I think he should be a 4th rounder. Love his attitude and he has nice traits, but he is still a project and very raw as a pass rusher.

    2. I think he could end up being very good in this scheme.

  8. 49ers are bringing quite a few guys in for top 30 visits that I'm not a huge fan of. Kelvin Banks the latest.

  9. Good news regarding Walter Nolen; Jordan Reid of ESPN, “Every source I have spoken to about Nolen has told me that interviews and interactions with him have gone very well.”

    ReplyDelete
  10. It might be an indication that the 49ers should stay at #11 with a better at Nolen. That is, if the 49ers are seriously targeting him.

    + MTF/Att: 0.31 (T-4th)
    + YACo/Att: 3.96 (4th)
    + Breakaway Run %: 10.2% (2nd)

  12. Mukuba is an early day 3 FS for mine. Agility isn't good enough and his lack of length compound the problem.

    1. Player I like is Malik Verdon S Iowa State. He has a knack for always being around the ball and plays with good instincts that make up for his average 4.5 40 speed. Yet, coming in at 6'4" and 220 lbs is not bad for a Safety. He's a bigger version of Tal Hufanga. I think he may be available on day 3.

  13. You are picking Zabel with the second overall pick so the talent must be there. Talent in itself is not enough for the position, is Zabel smart and does he play with an attitude?

    1. They sure are putting the work in on day 3 swing OG/OT types.

      Delete
    2. Pretty much how they've built their OL is through draft and development except for the starting LT position and Center. The two they hold most precious to the execution level required to allow the offense efficacy.

      Delete
  19. Every year fans complain about their offensive line philosophy and they're perfectly fine to disagree with it, (although it does get very annoying), however you can't disagree with how it's worked.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not sure I agree there. The OL has been average to above average most of the Shanahan era, in large part due to run game, but rarely great and often only average in pass pro. Which is a large part of the reason why many fans want upgrades.

      Delete
    2. The Shanahan offense is predicated on the run game.

      Delete
    3. Yes it is. But I still think it is fair for fans to disagree with both the approach and the results in consideration of the results in pass pro, which can be pretty hit ot miss.

      Delete
    4. Yep, they can bitch about it to their hearts content. Brendel is trash, blah, blah, but in the end it doesn't change the fact that their philosophy, whether you disagree or you don't has been proven twice with the SB appearances and divisional titles. I do find it comical though because the ones screaming the loudest either don't understand that we are a run first team or won't even entertain the idea to calm down their rantings about the offensive line. Why did our run game suffer last year? Miscalculation of losing Woerner. Foerster said as much when he singled out Saubert's inability to replace him. Wasn't their first choice but it seem Farrell might rectify that.

      Delete
    5. The OL is decent so yes, anyone complaining it's trash is exaggerating.

Run game suffered for more reasons than the TE. Brendel started the year poorly due to his knee (better second half of the year) and as much as Puni looked good, he had some struggles in the run game. Williams being out a lot didn't help either, and neither did having the LG position being a revolving door due to injury.

Get more continuity this year and it will be better.

      Delete
    6. Agreed but Foerster specifically pointed out that Saubert wasn't able to reproduce what Woerner did for them. Brendel played the season injured. He's tough as nails. Never missed a game.

      Delete
    7. I agree with your points regarding the continuity and injuries. I'm just pointing out that Woerner did a lot for them in the run game.

  20. Had the 49ers played the Eagles in the NFC Championship game last year Brock would likely had been more beat up than Mahomes was in the SB. The Oline needs help ASAP.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yet it was the same OL that led the league in '23 in rushing offense which got them to a SB. They upgraded their RG and not for $20M. LG is now up for grabs.

  21. The 49er have been a little slow in seriously targeting an heir-apparent for the eventual retirement of Trent Williams. I hope they don't miss out on that opportunity later this month. There may only be a hand-full that could be D1 starters and become TW replacement in time.
Looking for that person in the 3rd rd and beyond is a little to hopeful imho.

  22. Next years OL class is so much better AES and their scouts keep them informed many years in advance to coincide with need as to each years strengths and weaknesses.

    1. Razor,
I hear you. But waiting a year might put the 49ers in a precarious situation if Brock does not survive this year. With Purdy in line to receive 2 brinks trucks, it's important to give him stout protection this year. If Membou is gone by the 10th pick, Kevin Banks or Campbell could become a D1S.

      Delete
    2. Could be it'll all be up to Foerster and if he believes Membou, Banks or Campbell are future dancing bears. I'd be surprised if they address OL before round 3 tbh.

  27. RJ Harvey:

    4.40 40

    18.5 mph at 10 yards

    #1 in class

14% of runs gained 15+ yards

    #2 in class

    8.2 YPC on outside runs

    #1 in class

  28. It's either Harvey or Tuten for me, but hopefully in rd 4. Tuten reminds me a little of Frank Gore. And Harvey has a little Barry Sanders with his ability to make tackler's miss.

    1. It's the 8.2 ypc on outside zones that sealed it for me. I'd imagine it got Bobby's attention.

  29. Mason Graham is a great prospect. Lateral movement and quickness are outstanding and thats usually how he wins reps, but its also his weakness as he spends more time working sideline to sideline than into the backfield. Nolen has done it at every alignment and is slightly more explosive and disruptive working towards the backfield/pocket and that is the small difference for me.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I really like Nolen a lot, since you brought him to my attention and seeing tape on him. I only wonder if he will be there at #17 in your current mock. I would stay at 11 which would give the 49ers a better shot at him. If they to trade up to get him, I wouldn't be mad at them, either.

  31. Milroe accepts invite from NLF draft. Sounds like he's going 1st round, maybe even top 12.👀

  32. One of the things I think Saleh will love about Femi is his discipline to maintain containment while crushing the pocket.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm sure he will. Lots to like. But he still is a very raw edge player that shouldn't be taken until late day 2 at the earliest, imo. No need in such a deep edge class to take a project really high.

      Delete
    2. I agree but as they've shown, they don't give a crap what anyone else thinks when it comes to where they take their guy.

      Delete
    3. Oh for sure. I'm not saying they won't do it. They've done it before. Just that they shouldn't, imo.

I'll also say that a lot of the times they've "reached" for a guy they really liked (relative to consensus) it hasn't worked out too well. Last year is really the only time I can think of where they took guys on day 1 or 2 higher than expected for those players (Pearsall and Green) and it looks like it might work out.

  33. The Tre Harris hive has been buzzing under the radar. I'm surprised he hasn't been talked about much. Do you think he could actually be there at 43?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, it's interesting. I think folk are wary of guys coming out of that offense.

I really like him. I think he plays faster than his 4.54, especially once he gets going. Build up speed, but surprisingly fast once moving. And he's pretty good with his movements to create space too.

But must admit when I first started talking about him I hadn't looked at the two Iowa State guys in depth yet. I really like both of them - to the point I would not blame any team that takes either in the first round. If you are after a true X I think I would take Higgins over Harris.

    1. I like RJ Harvey as a change of pace RB. Great speed, vision, and juke ability. Only question is in what rd are the 49ers willing to take him.
Another guy I like is "Chip" Trayanum. He's played LB, but settled in as a RB. When I saw his tape, I thought it was Deebo. Same body type and running style. He could be available in the 6-7 rd. He may also be an UDFA.

    2. If we're talking day 3 guys, I really think Breshard Smith could be a great complement.

  41. Tony Pauline is saying up to 8 edge players could go in the first round and that if the Bengels take an edge it could start a run on them with teams from the bottom looking to trade up for one.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Deacon Jones was born 60 years to early. I can only imagine how much money he would be making today.

    ReplyDelete
  43. If you're in the top 25% of play action efficiency you will win a lot games (9-15). Bottom 25% and you don't win many (5).

    ReplyDelete
  44. Arkansas WR Isaac TeSlaa would be an interesting day 3 target for the 49ers.

    ReplyDelete
  45. In todays NFL iDL could very well be more important than edge.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Cosell is predicting 20 DT's go in the first 3 rounds. Better get 'em while you can!

    ReplyDelete
  47. The 49ers could go ED and iDL with their 1st and 2nd rd picks and assure themselves of very good talent on defense. Then find their OL guys between 3rd and 4th rds. Their own along with Comp picks could help at WR, CB, RB, LB.

I think the D line is in shambles I would include a DL for the third pick. I still am of the belief that defense wins championships. Might as well might as well build a superb one thru the draft. If there was a really good guard/center, that might sway me to take them in the third, but I would go right back at the DL with the fourth pick. A stout defense will make the offense better. They still have playmakers on offense, and Burford could play either guard position. Regardless of what they do, depth is going to be very thin.
