John Lynch NFL Anuual Meeting
John Lynch is under the most pressure since becoming GM of the 49ers. His team finished 6-11 and subsequently gutted several good players. He's got 11 draft picks and he needs 4 home runs and some singles. “Pressure is a privilege and I like that,” Lynch said. “I like the opportunity to add players and, obviously, it’s not just defense, it’s offense. The draft is a really important part of fixing that and we’re looking forward to that opportunity.” He's a believer in the core players they have but that core is aging and need replaced. He was made for these situations and I'm a firm believer in this regmie, but even I recognize he's got a daunting task in front of him to get this team back in the playoffs.

The 49ers are hosting Arkansas EDGE Landon Jackson on a top 30 visit, per source.
ReplyDeleteInteresting prospect.
DeleteLinear measurables are fantastic, but agilities not great and pass rush production metrics were pretty average. However, some of that can be explained by usage - Arkansas used him as a 4i/5T a fair bit in a 3-man front.
Looked good in the Senior Bowl itself, though practices were a bit of a mixed bag. Also looked good in position drills at combine and pro day... but going up against air so not sure how meaningful that really is.
I know some that love him and some that don't. I don't.
DeleteI like him more than Shemar Stewart. But that's a pretty low bar...
DeleteHaha, same.
DeleteWhat separates Mykel Williams and Stewart:
DeleteMental processor
Better tackler
Rushed mostly inside on a bad ankle
Pocket crusher
Elite length/Bats alot of passes
Saw him push around Kaydn Proctor, future top 5 OT
I definitely like Williams more than Stewart. Not sure who I would prefer between him and Jackson.
DeleteIt's Williams for me. 30% of his tackles were for loss. For once we'd have outside contain opposite Bosa and his upside is higher for me than Jackson. Tbh, I don't really like Jackson's overall body type. He's a little high cut.
DeleteI'd prefer Gillotte over all 3 of them, personally.
DeleteJordan Burch too.
DeleteSame and both can be had in Round 3/4. I like Pegues too.
DeletePegues as our 2nd iDL.
DeletePegues is intriguing for sure. Good athlete. I'd prefer West or Caldwell though.
DeleteThis is going to be a DL centric draft. I'd be shocked if they didn't take 4 DL.
DeleteOnly part of the Niners that I have grave concern is the DL. I expect this team to be in the playoffs next season.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great draft to be in the market for DL. They just gotta pick the right ones, and between Saleh, Gus and Kocurek there's no excuses for picking the wrong ones.
Delete49ers apparently showing a lot of interest in Iowa State CB Darien Porter. Excellent athlete, that is tall, long and fluid. Converted from WR and has ball skills. Would be a good pick up on day 2.
ReplyDelete49ers have actually been all over the Iowa State guys. Even interviewed the WR coach for the OC position.
We'll see if he lasts until Round 3. I really like Coach Campbell.
Delete23 days until the draft. Get your final mock drafts in.
ReplyDeleteKyle Shanahan says the 49ers will bring in veteran kicking competition for Jake Moody.
ReplyDeleteThe 49ers FO would fail in their due diligence if Moody received a free pass after last seasons collapse. Had Moody not been drafted high (for a kicker), there's a good chance that he would be looking for a new team right now.
DeleteAs a golfer, I find it interesting that so many of the NFL kickers now seem to kick it end over end w little spin now..... and doing so at a very impressive rate. Yet, to me, it seems like Moody still tries to move the ball, and namely right to left - a small curl which we used to see a lot of in the past. My $.02 He gets a chance to redeem himself...... Flores w the Giants is doing it, so let's hope Moody can as well. If not, bye bye ..... I am happy w the 49ers re-set...... and I believe they go Tackle high also as a consequence to Williams shenanigans last yr and they will continue to hedge moving forward.
DeleteDiptown,
DeleteEven if Moody aces TC. I hope the 49ers will keep a short leash on him during the season.
Sometimes I wonder if Moody's kicking issues are in his head rather than his foot.
About time... I'm all in for having 3 QBs and 2 Kickers instead of 4 QBs and 1 Kicker in the 90-man roster.
DeleteThe are hosting South Carolina DL TJ Sanders on a top 30 Visit, per source.
ReplyDeleteAiden Hutington won 21% of his rushes on true pass sets in his career - only behind Mason Graham among DTs.
ReplyDeleteI see a few comparing Emmenwori to Derwin James. I don't like it. One doesn't like to hit while the other does. One has versatility while the other does not. In my humble opinion, Kevin Winston Jr., S, Penn St. is closer to Derwin James than Emmenwori. I've got a day 2 grade on him.
ReplyDeleteLance Zierlein's latest mock just dropped and Walter Nolen is nowhere to be found. I asked Mr. Zierlein why Nolen, his 5th best graded player in the draft was not in Round 1, was there character concerns we're not aware of? His response:
ReplyDelete"I would say more maturity than character. They are different for me. He's super talented".
For me I don't see this as a deal breaker for the 49ers. They have plenty of leadership in the lockerroom for an immature player and I don't think that's enough to be a deal breaker.
The main problem I have with drafting guys that have significant maturity issues is that you probably won't see the best of them during their rookie contract. And of course sometimes it will prevent them from ever reaching their potential, if continues to be an issue.
DeleteWith Nolen, the thing that gives me some hope he is on the right path is how much better he was in 2024. But still a big concern.
Every time I have heard him speak though I have come away thinking (a) he's far from the sharpest tool in the shed and (b) he thinks he's already God's gift to football. It worries me.
49ers must nail this draft.
"Every time I have heard him speak though I have come away thinking (a) he's far from the sharpest tool in the shed and (b) he thinks he's already God's gift to football. It worries me."
DeleteIf true it also worries me.
That's a worry you alleviate or confirm during the interview process. Again I don't think it's that serious but maybe the justification is there to take him off your board in Round 1, but I promise you, heh heh, Howie Roseman or Andrew Reid won't be dissuaded. No chance he gets by both teams....
DeleteAgreed razor. Someone will be willing to take that chance in the first.
DeleteTo Scooters point. Sometimes I think teams overvalue upside... hoping that they will get some amazing player in 3 or 4 years.
DeleteThe problem is, while it is also a good problem... you will be paying a premium for the production when it comes.
While if you just get a solid (above average) starter on a rookie contract. Someone who contributes right away. You are getting that production on the cheap that is valuable even if you trade or let said player go after their 4 or 5 years.
Yeah. Football is chok full of very good players that bashing the English language. Lamar Jackson is one player among many others. But aside from winning a SB he has found great success. If Nolen drops anywhere #43, I would take him in a New York minute.
ReplyDeleteRoseman took a dude that commited manslaughter 9th overall who is a carbon copy of Walter Nolen. I highly doubt he'll pass on immaturity at 32, lmao.
DeleteHas Nolen committed murder? Not sure what your degree of carbon copy defines. Bruce Miller came out of college with a clean slate and then he assaulted an old man. If Nolen drops to 43, I'll take a risk.
DeleteNot Nolen, Carter got a slap for manslaughter and Greg Cosell compares Nolen to Carter coming out wrt talent.
DeleteRoseman has a reputation for gambling on some "bad rep" type players. It's a gamble no doubt, but if the gamble pays off there's a chance you might bring home a SB Trophy. I would not touch Nolen at #11, but 43 piques my interest.
DeleteIf the 49ers take Nolen in the first I would want it to be after a trade down to pick up a day 2 pick. Basically, mitigate the character risk by getting another player on day 2.
DeleteAgreed Scooter but unfortunately the likelyhood of that happening in this draft seems slimmer than previous ones.
DeleteAES, both Reid and Roseman have won SB's by taking a chance on, in the case of Andy Reid, Tyreek Hill who assaulted his pregnant girlfriend and Roseman with Jalen Carter's race that resulted in the death of his opponent.
DeleteIn which case I'd probably prefer to go elsewhere at 11.
DeleteI guess I'd have to go with Kenneth Grant then and hope you develop his pass rush.
DeleteThey don't take an iDL in Round 1 they might be up a creek. Not sure there's a day one starter in Round 2.
ReplyDeleteI think there are. But probably more 1T types. Williams, Collins, West and Caldwell I think all can start day 1 as a run stuffing 1T.
DeleteI think Sanders is the only day 2 3T I would trust to come in and start day 1. The rest I would prefer to be part of a rotation initially.
I think you nailed it Scooter.
DeleteDid you guys see TMac's video where he goes on about how he doesn't like football and never studies tape? Yikes, that agent must be in hell right now.
ReplyDeleteIt shows on the field too. He wins due to his size and coordination. Not because he is a nuanced player.
DeleteYea, that's not sustainable at the NFL level.
DeleteFA Calais Campbell is expected to sign with the #AZCardinals on a 1-year deal, sources say.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you guys think about Eugene Asante, LB, Auburn vs. Dee Winters for that starting WLB job?
ReplyDeleteI'd much prefer Nick Martin if they are looking at a later round flyer. Both guys play like missiles, but Martin is far more consistent in impacting the play.
DeleteI think the job is wide open. Winters by no means is gonna be given the job.
DeleteAgreed. Lynch and Shanahan have effectively said as much.
DeleteComes down to how much they value the WLB position. I think they can get a dude on day 3 like Martin or Samuel.
DeleteBig risk though to rely on a late round pick to step into a competition for a starter role. Wouldn't shock me to see them take 2.
DeleteYou're right there.
Delete22 days until the draft
ReplyDeleteStarting to get that sense of football again.
DeleteLinebacker Carson Schwesinger of
ReplyDelete@UCLAFootball
is working out today in front of five LB coaches. Receiving reports he timed under 7-seconds in the three cone; an outstanding mark for a LB who measured 6-foot-2.5-inches/242 pounds at the Combine.
Day 1 starter.
Not convinced he's the type of LB the 49ers are after. Imo they will be looking for a Greenlaw replacement, which is more an enforcer see ball get ball type. Schwesinger is more a Warner type.
DeleteI really like Carson. His football instincts and keen play diagnosting ability is high. But, can it make up for 4.7 40 speed at the next level? And where do you think his draft rd is?
DeleteHe's the only LB I have in round 2. His football instincts are second to none. He's a sniff ball go hunt ball LB. His 40 time isn't important to me cuz thats not his game. Plenty of fast guys with no instincts.
DeleteI think the likes of Paul Jr or Bassa are more the type of LB the 49ers will be after.
DeleteYea, I don't anticipate them burning a high 2nd on a WLB. Paul Jr. and Bassa are more thumpers but I have a soft spot in my heart for walk ons that become captains and kick ass like Carson did last year.
DeleteUCLA LB Carson Schwesinger had 30 teams — including LB coaches from Dallas, the Chargers, Giants, Saints and Broncos — in attendance for his private pro day today in Los Angeles. He met privately with the LB coaches for Dallas, the Giants and Saints.
DeleteSounds like Schwesinger is a first rounder.
Just a little changeup...
ReplyDeleteTwo NFL single-season rushing records, both owned by the Baltimore Ravens, have just been broken — by a team whose players are all deceased.
The 1948 49ers are now the NFL’s official record holders for most rushing yards in a season and highest yards per carry in a season. That 49ers team gained 3,663 rushing yards on 603 attempts, an average of 6.1 yards per carry. The 49ers played in the All-America Football Conference before joining the NFL in 1950, and the NFL has just decided to count AAFC stats into the league’s official records.
That means the Ravens have lost both of those records. The record for most rushing yards in a season previously belonged to the 2019 Ravens, who ran for 3,296 yards. And the record for highest yards per carry in a season was set just last season by the Ravens, who averaged 5.8 yards per carry.
Now those records belong to a 49ers team that featured an impressive rookie running back named Joe “The Jet” Perry, who would go on to have a Hall of Fame career, as well as Johnny “Strike” Strzykalski, who gained 915 yards that season and led the AAFC with 6.5 yards per carry.
Starting with this year’s NFL Record & Fact Book, those 49ers are now the official NFL record holders.

Field Yates new two round mock draft has the 49ers taking Ole Miss DT Walter Nolen at #11 and Minnesota OT Aireontae Ersery at #43
ReplyDelete11. Walter Nolen, DT:
"The 49ers have major work to do along the defensive line and perhaps a few other spots after losing multiple starters on both sides of the ball this offseason. Nolen would be a play-wrecker for them. He is overwhelmingly powerful and explosive, and he could help replace veterans Maliek Collins and Javon Hargrave. Nolen had 6.5 sacks in his lone season at Ole Miss after two years at Texas A&M. In a league that has put an increased premium on pass-rushing defensive tackles, he would provide San Francisco with a valuable building block."
The question is, do the 49ers feel the same way about Nolen as Yates does?
DeleteThis n that: 1) Hendrickson (CIN} for Aiyuk? he's on the last yr of his deal and wants $ ... granted, 49ers want to get younger there (he's 31)- he has been productive tho. 2. Per 49ers tickets, my break-even costs have gone from $175 about 3 years ago to $250 now. Some teams have been implementing policies to revoke ticket privileges for pervasive selling on secondary market- w 49ers, and the soft SBL Market (seat rights), that really can't happen. Just a heads up per 49ers selling 10% and York being called cheap- which I don't agree w.
ReplyDeleteLSU OG Miles Frazier is in San Francisco.
ReplyDeletePossible visit or workout with 49ers.
Versatile and very experienced, with pretty good athleticism.
DeleteA very 49er-y type OL.
