Track Record

🚨We have our first known 49ers 30-visit of this year's draft: Bowling Green TE Harold Fannin Jr. , as reported by Tony Pauline. We will try and update as more visits are reported.

  1. That's a lot of investment with very little return as far as DL is concerned. One man standing...Bosa

  2. Armand Membou
He is one of four offensive linemen to ever jump higher than 30 inches and run a sub-5 seconds in the 40-yard dash at 315 pounds or heavier. Williams and Tampa Bay’s Tristan Wirfs are among the others.

    1. If he was there, I wouldn't overthink it and just take him. Though I dont see it happening.
I am not really a big fan of any of the other potential tackles at 11.

  3. UC,
That's good company to be in for Membou. But many draftniks have him as a top 8 pick. If the 49ers are enamored with him, will they trade up to get him? Late last year Campbell and Banks were the top two rated OLmen. Membo is now #1. I'm interested to see how he shows up on the 49ers radar.

    1. If I am KS/JL and if I want this guy to replace Williams, I would do pretty much whatever it takes to get him. If he isn't drafted to replace Williams I would not draft him at all. If the Niners do get him then start the guy at LG. It would be an excellent learning experience to interact with Williams.

  4. I think they'd trade down from Membou in similar fashion to the way they did for Wirfs.

    1. If Josh Simmons drops to the 3rd rd because of his injury should the 49ers draft him? NFL.com reports that his recovery is going above schedule and that he might be ready at the start of the season. He could redshirt in 25 and go to the PS.

      Delete
    2. Well, they were trying very hard to trade for Trent Williams when they passed on Wirfs...

    3. I'm not convinced Foerster sees any of these OT's as dancing bears. I could be wrong but I don't see them addressing the OL until Round 3 at the earliest.

      Delete
    4. I think they only go OT at 11 if none of the DL they really like at 11 is there and they can't find a trade partner.

      Delete
    5. If McKivitz leaves in FA for $20M next year, assuming he has a good year, could Spencer Burford receive a 3 year deal as their swing OT this year with the idea of taking over RT in '26?

    6. It's an option that has to be on the table.

    7. I wonder if this is why Kyles offenses have traditionally struggled in the red zone and in short yardage. Their inability to generate push combined with fronts that are playing them tight at LOS eliminate both power runs and the outside zone.

  5. 40-yard dash time for Emeka Egbuka (via NFL scout):

    4.48

  6. I like Egbuka. What rd do you see him being drafted?

    1. Second half of the first round imo.

I know Golden is now widely considered the top or 2nd best WR in the draft (not counting Hunter), but personally I like Egbuka more than Golden.

    2. I hear Bond's talent is better than Golden's but that he's a diva.

      Delete
    3. Bond is the guy they planned their offense around, until he got hurt. Not Golden.

But Bond is another guy I think is being overrated atm.

      Delete
    4. I think he's a better version of Aiyuk and will go in the second half of the first round.

  7. Elic Ayomanor blocks like George Kittle.

  8. I don't think you want Mike Green on the field for 12 personnel unless you're stacking the box. I don't see the fit with the Niners.

  9. Louisiana gave Mike Green some problems…

  10. Fringe 1st Round DL Tyleik Williams fell during his 40 RUN & was holding his knee. He had to be helped off the field. 🙏

    1. The more I've been thinking about it, the more I would love to go DT round 1 and round 2, with a pass rushing guy round 1 and then Williams in round 2.

I really like that you know what you're getting in Williams. An excellent run stuffer that can handle double teams, with the quickness and strength to push the pocket which at least gives him some value against the pass (though you'd take him out on obvious passing downs).

Heck, follow it up later on with a guy like Peebles on day 3.

      Delete
    2. I wouldn't be mad at all. Gotta protect your LB's and give Kocurek a decent rotationn.

      Delete
    3. Scooter, I am ok with that as well.
However, if they did that I would want some combination like Grant w/ TJ Sanders / Alexander type or Nolan with a bigger bodied run guy Like Phillips or West. The second option though is more interesting based on the mocks as you could probably wait until your 3rd pick for the second Dlineman and still get a solid combination.

  12. Do you guys think that Evan Anderson will make the team this year? The 49ers seem to be high on him.

  13. The graph below certainly explains the STs the last few years. This years FA signings hint that someone told KS that he needs to take STs a lot more seriously.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hmmm, not really. I suspect that only includes the specialists - K and P. Anyone else will get allocated as a position player.

As you can see in that figure, the 49ers are actually 3x the league average in investment in STs.

  14. LSU TE Mason Taylor had unofficial times of 4.65 and 4.68 in the 40 at pro day.

  15. 40 inches in the vert for Virginia Tech ED Antwaun Powell-Ryland at 6’3”, 260 lbs, source said at VT pro day.

EXPLOSIVE ballplayer who amassed 48 pressures and 14 sacks in 2024. Very short length profile (31.25" Arms, 76 1/8" Wing) and reminds me of Darrell Taylor from Tennessee.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It seems that the NFL is so enamored with the "idea players measurables" that
they ignore their high end production. 14 sacks and 48 QB pressures are nothing to sneeze at. Ryland would make a nice pickup on day 3.

  17. 49ers have shown interest in Nebraska center Ben Scott, per
    Tony Pauline.

Scott has started in all but one of his 51 career games at Nebraska and Arizona State, with 35 coming at center. Late day 3 or UDFA.

    1. I actually haven't watched him yet, but I keep hearing how people think he's a perfect Shanahan back. Those stats seem to back it up.

    2. I like Blue. His speed is scary good. The one thing I would like to see in his game is a little more shiftiness in the second level. Many of his runs could have gone much further had he juked the initial tackle.

    3. Have now watched Blue. He is Raheem Mostert.

  21. Lenoir’s passer rating allowed in the postseason for his career is just 48.5.

  22. TexasTech TE Jalin Conyers at the NFL Combine: 1st in three-cone (6.94) & shuttle (4.27). Top-5 in Vert (35.45") + Broad (10'1"). Looks like a day 3 athlete you take your shot with perhaps a Juice understudy.

  23. Walter Nolen stood on his tape at his Pro Day. Benched 27 reps and did some positional drills. Tape still says top 15 pick. Sounds like he's comfortable with that.

    1. Looked great in position drills too. So dang fast and smooth for a guy his size. Moved better than the DEs Princely U and Ivey imo.

Compare that to Shemar Stewart who doesn't have the production and didn't do drills at his pro day, just has amazing linear testing numbers from the combine. I think Stewart is going to fall - too much Vernon Gholston vibes for me.

      Delete
    2. Gholston is a good comparison.

  24. Que Robinson: 25 pressures and 5 sacks on just 163 career(!!) pass rush snaps. I'd take a chance on him with pick 113.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's a bit like Norman-Lott though. Such limited game time, which keeps him fresh, and when on the field his primary role was to get after the QB, which helps inflate those stats.

      Delete
    2. There's a role for those guys though.

      Delete
  25. Good call on Q. Robinson. My only concern is that he's listed in the 240 - 245 wt range. But he seems to carry it well and shows field presence at his position. 3rd day flyer sounds about right.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Camden Miller, QB, North Dakota St is the qb I'd take a flyer on in Round 7 if I was in the market.

    ReplyDelete
  27. If I was drafting just for high character, some notable guys that would be very high on my list are Jalon Walker, Femi Oladejo, Jeffrey Bassa, Jahdae Barron, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Emeka Egbuka and Jaylin Noel.

  28. 2-year, $4m contract for new 49ers special teams ace Siran Neal:

    -$2.255m fully guaranteed
-$1m signing bonus (3 void years)
    -$390k in bonus bonus
    -2025 base salary is guaranteed
    -$1.65m 2025 salary-cap hit

    Bye, bye Odum.

  29. My somewhat left field replacement suggestion for Deebo - SMU RB Brashard Smith.

Converted WR with over 100 career catches and 1,000 career receiving yards in college, and looked good at RB last year.

    1. I think he's scored highly in pass pro as well.

      Delete
    2. I think he'd be a really nice fit. Runs hard despite the smaller frame, very elusive, home run speed, and runs WR routes (including ability to split out wide) with good hands.

  30. Dont'e Thornton Jr reminds me a lot of Martavis Bryant.

    1. One trick pony but it's a hell of a trick. Just have him run downfield every time and when the DB doesn't go with him heave it up.

  32. In 2015, NFL passing peaked—over 480 combined yards per game.

But today, it's at a 30-year low. NFL passing yards per game have plummeted to just 403 in 2024. That's the lowest since 1993. The biggest change has simply been coverages. Two-high safety looks jumped from 44% of passing downs in 2019 to 63% in 2024. Instead of keeping one safety deep, defenses now split two safeties 10-15 yards off the line. The impact has been brutal for throwing the long ball:

    • 10.2 attempts per game in 2019
    • Only 7.7 attempts in 2024
    • A 24.5% decrease in just 5 years

Modern NFL defenses now employ what NextGen Stats describe as looking like a "red crab". Linebackers sit 4-6 yards off the line. Hybrid DBs lurk in intermediate zones. Two safeties patrol deep. This creates a defensive web that's changed everything.

  33. Per Aiyuk's agent he won't be ready to play until mid season. It doesn't look like he will be traded by April 1. I wonder if they could get a conditional 26 draft pick before April 1?

  37. 49ers met with Elijah Roberts at SMU pro day. I really like him as a big end option that can slide inside on passing downs.

    ReplyDelete
  38. If the 49ers want their own version of Jared Verse, the guys that I think are closest in profile are Nic Scourton and Bradyn Swinson.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Will the 49ers make any post April 1 free agent signings? Signings after April 1 don't effect their compensatory picks in the 26 draft.
