ReplyDeleteA good looking draft! I like you trading down for Noland and Grant in the first Rd. The only thing I'd question is the need to draft a LB and RB. I like LB Smael Mondon in the 4th Rd and Scooter likes LB Chris Paul in the 3Rd Rd.
Thanks Geep.
DeleteRazor,
ReplyDeleteNolen and Grant have the potential to be day1 starters. But, aren't they both IDlinemen? If Swinson and Walker are drafted, this would be a big time haul. The other players you added can make this Lynch and Shanahan' best ever draft.
Thanks and yes that's what I had in mind, as Nolen can play up and down the DL but primarily that 3t defining role, while Grant is the bigger run stuffer with some pass rush upside next to him.
DeleteMatos/Grant/Nolen/Bosa would be your Alpha Unit
Swinson/Elliott/Peebles/Walker your Bravo Unit
Anderson/Sam O round out the room.
I like it.

Dalton Wasserman on Walter Nolen: "He's got as much talent as any defensive tackle in this draft". Ceiling 📈
ReplyDeleteNice work razor - fixing the DL does need to be a priority. Like GEEP, I would love to see a LB added earlier than the 7th.
ReplyDeleteThanks Scooter. Just asked David Lombardi about Spencer Burford and if he's in the mix for swing OT. He affirmed he indeed is in that mix and is seen now as an OT and not OG. Very interesting.
DeleteIndeed.
DeleteMuch like your good self, I think the 49ers will only take an OL early if the value is just incredibly good. Like if Membou falls to 11 and there are no top tier DL available and no good trade back options. Or if Conerly is there at 43.
I expect this to be a very heavy defensive front 7 draft.
What exactly are Nolen's "off field" issues?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn’t consider him major character issues, but a slight lack of maturity or motor at times. The main issue was at A&M he came in with a bunch of head cases and the culture as a whole wasn't good. He didn’t rise above it, but he also didn’t slink down to the levels of some of his peers.

@NFLFrascella
“The Cleveland Browns have been pounding the 49ers in the past week or so, trying to find a deal that works for Brandon Aiyuk, looks like they want a WR1 for Shedeur.”
Do it in a heartbeat.
DeleteRazor If other teams have been checking with the 9ers about a potential trade for Aiyuk this offseason, the question then is, after signing him to a 4 year $120 Mil. contract, do the 9ers still believe they can justify the price they paid, or could they better allocate the resources to sign BP and free agents?
ReplyDeleteIf the 9ers do trade Aiyuk pre-June 1st this offseason, they'd incur an $18.4 million dead cap hit, which would save them ~$-7.2 Mil. If they designated the trade post-June 1st, though, they'd free up $6.5 million but would incur dead cap penalties of $4.6 million in 2025 and $13.8 million in 2026 and his cap hits in 2027 and 2028 both exceed $42 million.
(Scooter would you confirm these $$ numbers are correct)?
WRT to Aiyuk, the question I would ask you is, if he hadn't gotten hurt, would you have minded paying him a one year deal worth $25M last year, to help support one last crack at a SB before needing to reset?
DeleteBecause if they trade him that is what the deal will end up having been.
As for post June 1, you can only designate that on a cut/ release, not a trade. If they trade him it is $18.4M against the cap this year (assuming they trade him before his option bonus is due April 1), no getting around it. If they cut him they are up for much more due to guarantees in his contract, though can push much of it to next year. Though there is no good reason to do this.

DeleteOK, thank you for the info for post june 1 cut/release. .
To your question: If he hadn't gotten hurt, would I have paid him a one year deal worth $25 Mil? Since I would not have known he'd get hurt, that would not have been a factor for what I would have been willing to pay Aiyuk.
When the Steelers and Patriots were trying to trade for Aiyuk, I would not have traded him,. I'd would have paid him the $14
Mil he was due for his 5th year, then used the franchise tag.
Good idea in theory, but he was holding out. If they made him play his 5th year he likely doesn't show up until he needs to, mid season, to accrue a season. And even if he does, he'd have been disgruntled.
DeleteI'd trade Aiyuk if possible and I wouldn't pay a wr moving forward $30M unless he's Jerry RIce. The position has outpriced its value.
DeleteI didn't appreciate Aiyuk's disrepect after he was paid with the red shorts either. I thought it was a blatant show of insubordination.
Scooter
Delete* Would you agree that the 9ers have, in hindsight, overpaid both Deebo in 2022 and Aiyuk in 2024, to chase a SB win?
* Do you agree with Razor that moving forward, he would not pay a WR $30 Mil p/y other than Rice? And the position has outpriced its value?
* Do you agree, that had the 9ers not given in to Deebo and
Aiyuk's salary demands, that the 9ers would be in a better
salary cap situation than they are today?
* Do you believe the 9er organization has learned to not overpay players and move on, if they demand to be paid more than they're worth?
In hindsight, sure. Heck, even before they re-signed either Deebo or Aiyuk I advocated for trading them, not paying them.
DeleteAnd yeah, if they hadn't they would probably be better off now.
But end of the day they only paid them market value in order to keep qualty impact players in the midst of a SB window. And that I can understand.
And I think they'd do it again in pursuit of a SB.
Scooter
DeleteI ask you the questions because in your of your post, you said. "Good idea in theory, but he was holding out. If they made him play his 5th year he likely doesn't show up until he needs to, mid season, to accrue a season. And even if he does, he'd have been disgruntled."
That sounds like you believe he has leverage to force the issue. I don't believe that is the case, or that big a problem.
* So JL meets with him and his agent, informs him if he holds out he'll hold out he'll be paid $14 Mil for the season and fined to the maximum allowed. And should he show up mid season, to accrue a season, he'll be on ST, NOT playing QB. If he then decides to become disruptive, or a locker room problem, he'll be dealt with in accordance with the CBA rules for behavior.
Also, the following season he'll be given the non-exclusive franchise tag that allowing him to negotiate with other teams.
and it will be the 9ers decision to accept 2 first round picks
from the team with worst record. Then he and his agent can
decide if they really want to play hard ball, or work something
out? Correct me if I'm wrong, but i believe the 9ers can use
the franchise tag up to 3 times? If so, that's long enough to destroy a career, should he and his agent decide to go that route!
It's not a case of if he held out. He was holding out.
DeleteHow does fining him and threatening to tag him in 2025 help them chase a SB in 2024?
Scooter
Delete* * "It's not a case of if he held out. He was holding out."
So JL meets with Aiyuk and his agent before the season starts, not after he becomes a distraction by holding out.
* "How does fining him and threatening to tag him in 2025 help them chase a SB in 2024?"
It doesn't Scooter. But it does send a message to players and their agents, that they can''t force the 9ers to over pay them by
holding out! That they'll pay a price if they do.
Point being, other players will think twice before trying to
force the 9ers into give them what they want.
Sure, but if you take this back to my original point/ post in this thread, the reason for signing Aiyuk was to have one last crack at a SB in 2024.
DeleteI think you are agreeing that not extending him probably means Aiyuk isn't helping them in that pursuit in 2024?
GEEP, Xavier Restrepo just had 40 times in 4.7-4.8 range at the Miami pro day. Jaylin Noel had elite testing numbers across the board at the combine. These results for both players show up on film. These players are not alike, and I know which one I would take.
ReplyDeleteI'm not touting Restrepo to the 49ers, but former HOF Raiders WR Fred Bileknikoff ran 4.7 40. He had an uncanny (as John Madden described it) way of getting open. I see a little bit of this in Restrepo.
ReplyDeleteI'm not using this as a knock on Restrepo per se. There's good WRs that run slow.
DeleteJust something GEEP and I discussed previously, where he compared the two players. They may both play a lot from the slot, but they are completely different types of players.
Scooter
DeleteMeeting all day and haven't had time to go back and read what we both posted. But if memory serves, the issue was Nolen dropping passes? Again, if memory serves, Restrepo did not run the 40 at the combine, or did he run in any of the field exercises? Has Restrepo held his pro day and if so, what were his 40 results?
His 40 times at his pro day were in the mid 4.7 to mid 4.8 range.
DeleteYour comments started with comparing Noel's drops to fumbling. Then you started comparing him to Restrepo, to which I pointed out they are very different players. You then went through how similar they are, quoting/ linking to the scouting reports you've read.
I outlined I prefer to base my opinions on what I see when I watch the guys and use scouting reports to refine my thoughts. I outlined that on film Noel was very different to Restrepo, and that he was more of a vertical threat while Restrepo is a horizontal threat. Now we have athletic testing numbers that match what is on film, not what is in the scouting reports you read.
Scooter
DeleteSorry for the delay in responding, I finally had a chance to review!
If Restepros pro day 40 was in the mid 4.7s to mid 4.8s range then I have to agree, Nole is a deep threat that can take the top of the D and Restepro is not.
* "Your comments started with comparing Noel's drops to fumbling."
That's not quite what I posted. I also posted that Noles drop concentration appears at the "WORST TIMES. The worst times being on 3rd down and would result in a turn over and
If he dropped a pass with the game was on the line, it could
cost the team the game! Does that make Nole a WR that the coaches would trust with the game on the line?
"These players are not alike, and I know which one I would take."
* While I understand your reasoning, If your definition of "Not
alike" is "Noel is more of a vertical threat while Restrepo is a horizontal threat," I would also agree.
However, I'd have to disagree as to which WR I'd draft for the
following reasons.
1) Throwing long, to a WR that can take the top off the D isn't
BP's forte. A WR that demonstrates elite short-area quickness and decisive cuts that create consistent separation on intermediate routes, is what best fits BP's skill set.
2) Nole weighs 194 pounds, Restepro, weighs 209 pounds, an additional 15 pounds that enables him to hold off DB trying to
use their size to an advantage. "Noles after-catch creativity doesn't match his separation skills, rarely makes the first man miss and generates minimal yards through contact."
3) Noles drop concentration appears at the "WORST TIMES.
Restepro shows exceptional concentration in traffic, consistently making tough catches through contact.
4) KS demands his receivers can block if they want the rock.
So we have a difference of opinion with respect to who we
would draft. And based on the above facts, I admit you're right, they're not the same WR's, as we can see they are differences.
👍 yep, different people will like/ want different things. Only natural to have differing opinions on the preferred player. Was only pointing out I disagreed with the comparison of the two.
DeleteFred used to make some spectacular catches. I wonder if he was using stickum.
ReplyDeleteHaha! No, of course not.
DeletePer NFLDraftBuzz.Com
ReplyDelete"Day two is where Restrepo should hear his name called. The Patriots' offense is crying out for his brand of route-running precision, and Kyle Shanahan would have a field day designing plays for his short-area quickness. What he lacks in pure physical tools, he makes up for with savage competitiveness and elite football IQ. This isn't a prospect who needs time to develop – he's ready to step in and command targets from day one."
He might be a late 2nd - 3rd rd target for the 49ers. Hopefully he drops to the 3rd. Restrepo could be a nice piece as a Slot WR.
AES
DeleteRestrepo's game screams Julian Edelman – "a technician who turned the slot into an art form."
When you're compared to Edelman, you know you being
compared to a WR that set a standard few have accomplished.
IMO, you're right. KS would would have a field day designing plays for his short-area quickness..

I wonder if LeQuint Allen Jr., RB, Syracuse could be Bobby's target in Round 4.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have mentioned him previously. Very good receiver out of the backfield.
DeleteHe's tough and I know that is a prerequisite. Is he coachable and does he have the ability to retain? Another prerequisite. I'd love to work under Bobby.
DeleteIf you need a run stuffer along your defensive front, day 3 is full of 'em.
ReplyDeleteCJ West and JJ Pegues just to name a couple.
ReplyDeleteWest is getting a lot of buzz as a late day 2 guy these days, but I would love to add him to the 49ers.
DeleteBuzz Rising 📈📈📈: Washington State University WR Kyle Williams is rising up draft boards.
ReplyDeleteWhere some initially believed he’d go in round 5, buzz is growing that he may go in round 2-3 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Good player. If he'd just change his name, he'd be a nice 49er!
DeleteK. Williams was a productive player. But don't we have the same player in Jacob Cowing?
ReplyDeleteTory Horton is another WR worth keeping an eye on.
ReplyDeleteRB Jaydon Blue ran 4.25-4.28 at the Pro Day this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteBlue ran 4.38 at the NFL Combine, though it was discovered after he had a slight tear in his groin.📈
Nick Folk, 40 years old and now a free agent, ranked 2nd in EPA/kick last year. He had the highest FG % in 2024 and was perfect from 50+ yards.
ReplyDeleteMr. Lynch, please sign him.
