Rule #4 of Draft Club:
ReplyDeleteYou can find iOG's, LB's and S's in F/A but if you want WR's, OT's or DT's you'll need to draft or trade for them.
The Bengels at 17 need two iDL just like we do, and that's why I would not advise trading down below 15.
ReplyDeleteIf Graham is gone and Nolen's character concerns turn out to be real, I'm not taking a DT at 11.
DeleteGoing Edge?
DeleteYes... so long as they come back clean on character concerns! Pearce Jr would be my pick if Nolen's a no go, but obviously he's got his own character concerns that need investigation. And if not him then Green would also be a strong consideration.
DeleteIf they all have concerns I'm going Membou.
Man this is getting juicy!🧃
DeleteCBS, latest #11 for 49ers is former Alabama LB, Jahiid Campbell. I guess that I paid too much attention to college football like in years past, but I heard any news on Campbell. His film looks very good.
ReplyDeleteHe's good but I don't see him as a top 15 pick. Doesn't have the intincts. I think he could sneak into the 20's.
DeleteI *haven't* paid...
ReplyDeletePretty much like Jalon Walker. You don't want him as an off the ball LB.
DeleteI *haven't* heard...
ReplyDeleteSheesh, it sucks getting old, sometimes.
I would not be shocked if JL makes a deal to trade Deebo to Denver at the Combine.
ReplyDelete* Denver has a rookie QB Bo Nix, ~$34 million in cap space, and WR Courtland Sutton turns 30 in October. He’s entering the final year of his contract.
* Deebo would be an option if Sutton leaves after the 2025 season.
* Denver HC, Sean Payton, would love Deebo and owns the 85th draft
pick.
* JL and KS should want to make it happen!
It would cost the 49ers a $31M hit to this years cap to trade Deebo prior to June 1st.
DeleteRazor
DeleteWhile that's true, the number would go up to about $47 million if they traded him after his March 22 option bonus came due. I suspect we'd both agree that this will obviously play itself out before then?
* So the 9er FO could decide to take the $31 Mil hit and clear their books of Samuel’s contract entirely! IMO, It’s also NOT likely the 9ers keep him in 2025 since he struggled in 2024, and carrying him on the roster in 2025 would count for $47 million against the cap.
* Correct me if I'm wrong, but releasing Deebo before March 22 and designating him as a post-June 1 cut would result in a dead cap hit of roughly $10.75 million this season and ~$20.8 Mil. in dead money would go on the 9ers 2026 cap.
So again, the 9er FO could just take the $31 Mil hit and clear their books of Samuel’s contract entirely and getting Denvers 2025 Draft pick #85 would be better than the 9ers getting nothing.
DeleteFor 2025 it'd be about $10.751M & $20.798M in 2026 dead money wise with a post June 1 cut designation, saves $5M in 2025(in June), & $12.344M in 2026, since he's set to count $33M in dead money in 2026.
Either way they have to take the $31.55M dead hit, depends on what they want to do, post June 1 him, or lose $16M in 2025 cap room. My vote is to spend that $16M to make this years team better.
I say trade him if they can get an early 3rd round pick or better. If they can't then cut him with a post June 1 designation and use the money they save this year to sign a FA.
DeleteRazor With the NFL Salary cap projection of ~$279.5 Mil. the 9ers should have ~$50 Mil. in cap space before accounting for BP's new contract.
Delete* NOTE: This projection is based on OverTheCap.com's estimates. * If BP signs a new contract for $55 Mil to $60 Mil P/Y, the
9ers would likely structure the contract so that his base pay
would be a $3 - $4 Mil. in 2025 and 2026, with $55 to $60
bonus money. The 9ers could then create additional cap space by restructuring contracts of LB Warner ($29.2 million), TE Kittle ($22 million) and DE Nick Bosa ($20.5 million)
* Input from Scooter (to clarify) would be helpful.
** With $50 Mil. to $60 Mil bonus money in 2025 and 2026**
DeleteThey can structure BPs contract in such a way as to keep it low the first few years, though obviously the more you do that the larger the cap hit on the back end.
DeleteI'd probably look more to go the middle ground of keeping his cap hit around $20M to $30M the first two years, then increasing to around $35M to $45M the next couple of years, with some void years to push cap hits out later.
Re: Deebo, bringing forward the dead cap hit sucks a bit, but it needs to be paid sometime. If it gets brought forward to this year they'll no doubt restructure other contracts to absorb it.
Scooter: "They can structure BPs contract in such a way as to keep it low the first few years, though obviously the more you do that the larger the cap hit on the back end."
Delete* I agree. I kept it lower in the first few years, as I expect the salary cap to continue increasing in the later years of BP's contract. I also like getting another 3Rd Rd draft pick VS
nothing, if Deebi is released post June 1.
The salary cap is indeed increasing a lot each year, but they still need to be careful to structure the deal to make sure the cap hit doesn't balloon to an untenable level in future years. It's doable, but only if they accept they'll still likely need to acquit around $45M to $50M against the cap for BP in the first two years (assuming his deal averages above $55M a year in new money).
DeleteUnderstood...Good point.
DeleteLeQuint Allen Jr would be a fun player to give Shanahan.
ReplyDeleteHe's easily the best receiver of the RBs in this draft - a guy that could possibly even make it in the NFL as a slot WR. Really impressive hands, ball tracking and body control. Kind of built more like a WR than RB too.
As a runner he won't ever be dominant between the tackles, but he can be surprisingly hard to bring down for a lean body type. Also an excellent blocking back.
Going to test really well in the jumps I expect too - he can get elevated!
