While I do like most of your draft, I'd draft down for DT Walter Nolan, Ole Miss. Other than DT Graham he is, IMO, the top DT in the 2025 draft.
My trade down would also include drafting DT TJ Sanders, S. Carolina,' but my trade down would include EDGE J.T. Tuimoloau,
Ohio St. rather than DT Alfred Collins, Texas.
But either way, it would be an excellent 2025 draft for the 9ers.

  3. I'm warming up to the idea of trading back from 11. Not overly enamoured with the guys you got from the trade back, but given how many positions I think need better depth and potential starters, the idea of having 5 or even 6 picks on days 1 and 2 is attractive.

RE DT Nolan: I also expect him to move up on draft boards into top 15 draft picks, but the boards I'm looking still have him going at around draft pick #20 +/- 3 draft spots.
      * RE Trade partner: Denver at #20 and LAC at #22; Both have
a TE as a draft need...Tyler Warren TE | Penn St. would, IMO,
be an attrace trade up for both?

      Delete
    3. Yea, I could see a team making a move up with us for Warren.

  4. Charles Grant is gonna shoot up boards. 3rd place in VA State wrestling at 220lbs. Came in to William & Mary at 240lbs. Began football as a high school junior:

    35" Arms.. 21MPH.. 32" Vertical.
Bruce Feldman CFB had him on his Freak List with a staggering 1.44 10yd split. Check out his '21 game against Jared Verse.

    1. Jared Wilson will too. I expect his testing numbers to be off the charts.

RE Charles Grant: Where he's drafted will, IMO, depend on his measurements at the NFL Combine. I see him drafted
as an NFL OG, not as an OT.
      * It would also help where he's drafted, if he played for a big big 10, big 12, or SEC university...etc, opposed to playing for William & Mary. If his Combine measurements are good,
and he test well, I see him drafted early round three, for a ZBS team.

  5. Zierlein has Nolan over Graham and I gotta say that I don't disgree. I see Nolan as an ascending player whereas Graham's ceiling isn't as high. Sure he's the safer pick but you draft for what a players capable of becoming within your scheme and coaching staff.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agree 100% that Graham is safer and Nolan is higher ceiling.

In terms of draft strategy though, I don't completely agree. If it's light years different in ceiling then sure, but with Graham it's not a case that the ceiling is just a decent player. And when you desperately need to get a guy that can be plug and play and not bust, I get the appeal of going the safer guy even if you believe another guy might have a little more untapped potential.

      Delete
    2. I will say though you are also 100% right about team/ scheme fit. And for the 49ers I can absolutely see why they might consider him DT1.

      Delete
    3. Scooter
To your point, I agree, Graham is safer than Nolan! I've debated that very point with myself and concluded that to beat the Eagles, the 9ers will need to NOT PLAY IT SAFE if they want to play in another SB. Eagles GM, Roseman, showed JL and KS
the blueprint. it's up to them to beat him at his own game!

    5. Scooter: "49ers need to follow their own identity, which has been working quite nicely. Part of that identity was building the trenches, and they need to do so again."
      * Yes, I agree Scooter. Are you implying that drafting Nolan would not be following their own identity, that Nolan does
not have a "high character," or that he hasn't been "productive in college over multiple years?" This is just one of many Scouting Reports for Nolan

      * After signing with Texas A&M, Nolen made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2022, appearing in 10 games with four starts. His sophomore season saw increased playing time with 10 starts in 12 games, but it was his transfer to Ole Miss in 2024 where everything clicked. Nolen exploded onto the scene as a key cog in the nation's top rush defense, earning Consensus All-American honors while racking up 14 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. His dominant junior campaign culminated in being named an Outland Trophy finalist and earning invitations to both the Senior Bowl and multiple award semifinalist lists.

The numbers only tell part of the story - Nolen's impact went far beyond the box score. He was the anchor of an Ole Miss defense that set school records with 52 sacks and 120 tackles for loss in 2024. His consistent disruption in the backfield, highlighted by multiple three-plus TFL performances, showed his ability to take over games. The transformation from highly-touted recruit to dominant SEC defender has positioned Nolen as one of the premier interior defensive line prospects in this draft class.
      * Mason Graham, DT Michigan is a to 10 draft pick and YES, he
also meets all of those qualities. HOWEVER, he's a top 10
draft pick the 9ers have little chance of drafting unless, IMO, they're willing to spend? So my question to you is, should the
9ers spend the draft capitol to draft Graham?
And BTW, You have said you believe Zierlein is one of the better
      talent evaluators.

      Delete
    6. Not at all what I am implying. Just saying the 49ers can't and shouldn't try and beat the Eagles at their own game, as you put it.

Taking big swings hasn't worked out well for the 49ers.

I am very high on Nolen and have been saying the 49ers will likely be keen on him for a while. He's not a big risk imo. Very talented.

      Delete
    7. I'm with Scooter on this for a few reasons. Graham won't be the explosive player Nolan might be, but his worst case scenario is a plus pass rusher who's a game wrecker in the run game.
He also allows you to pair him with cheaper DTs that are either run or pass specific, keeping your DLine costs down cap wise while allowing you to compete against both run and pass heavy offenses.
Second I'm a bit over high risk/reward guys...give me doubles over home run or strikeout and Nolan has a bit more bust than I'd like.
Hell od take Graham and someone like Sanders or Ezuraku and feel great about the DLine going forward.

      Delete
    8. Shoup
Question: Would you have the 9ers spend the draft capitol it would require to trade up for DT Mason Graham?

      Delete
    9. Not likely.
It would need to be a cheap trade up. For example if he fell to 9 and you could get him for 11 and say a 5th.

I'm more in favor of trading back, even potentially out of the first.

  8. Just found out the character concern on Princely Umanmielen. Evidently he charged the stands to fight a couple fans while at Florida after a defeat. He had been talking smack on social media leading up to the game. Is that enough to take him off Lynch's board?

The question is, what is their football character? Tbh I'm basically ok with kids who got into fights or did something stupid like speeding or got busted for drugs... It's more about repeat offenders or if they were abusing someone smaller or weaker.

    1. Yeah, big effort guy too. I like him.

Where Gillotte is drafted, and by who, will depend on his
Combine measurements and performance. He's another
player on Bruce Feldman's Freak's List (ranked #58).
      * IMO, he'll be used as a 3Rd down EDGE pass rusher, at least until he shows he can set the edge and he develops
a full arsenal of counter moves to complement his ability to pressure & sack the QB.

      Delete
    3. For mine Gillotte is a perfect fit for the 49ers. As an edge rusher he's well suited for the wide 9 to cover up some of his deficiency cornering and really make use of his power and hands. But he's also got the build and strength to play tighter on run downs, plus he's good sliding in to DT on passing downs.

RE DE Elijah Roberts: I have him as day three draft prospect that will likely move up draft boards if his Combine results are good.
      * IMO, His limited production at Miami, (his 1st 3 collegiate seasons), raises questions about his consistency and competition level he faced.
      * Where do you have him being drafted? I have him as a mid 6th round draft pick, but moving up to late 4th, early 5th Rd with good Combine results.

  11. Scooter, do you think Shanahan would entertain using a guy like J.J. Pegues down on the goal line or would that be out of the question?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think he would. He isn't completely against using starters on STs, so cross training doesn't appear to be an issue, and he clearly values versatility on offense.

    2. Maryland is a bit of a surprise treasure trove this year. There's a few guys from the Terps I quite like as day 3 options - Trader, Jordan Phillips and Tai Felton.

      Delete
    3. I'm not as high on Phillips as most but I take your point.

      Delete
    4. As a day 3 guy I like Phillips. I'm seeing him now getting borderline day 2 grades and I'm not on him that high.

      Delete
    5. Scooter
While WR Tai Felton's college production was excellent, his weight (181 pds) and 4.61s 40 raises questions for me.

      Delete
    6. Have you watched him? I simply don't believe the 4.61s 40 time is accurate.

      Delete
    7. Yea, he looks faster on the field. 2 weeks fellas and all will be clear.

      Delete
    8. Scooter / Razor
Yes, I've watched tape on him and yes, he looks faster than a 4.61s 40. His Combine results should answer my questions,
on his 40 but not his weight. Until I see his combine results, I'll keep him on my "watch list."

      Delete
  13. Scooter
S Dante Trader is a head scratcher for me. Not sure why he's listed as a late day 3 draft prospect? IMO, he'd fit as a 9er ST player from day one....And as we all know, the 9er ST needs some help!

  14. Los Angeles Chargers Joey Bosa could be a salary cap casualty, saving the team $25.3M in cap space.

The 49ers are expected to be a strong match in FREE AGENCY with form coach Gus Bradley and brother Nick Bosa.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Bosa's don't usually come cheap. Given how often he's injured I'd stay away unless he's willing to take a heavily incentive laden contract.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, I agree on the injury issues with J. Bosa. He's not as good as his brother and if he gets injured again the 49ers are back to square one in need of another Edge. Personally, I would pass on Joey and draft a young Edge that could contribute without the bigger contract.

  15. After Razor posted his mock 2025 draft, I attempted to construct one also, but soon realized I need to know how the 9er FO resolved their own FA issues before I could make a mock draft that was reasonably accurate!
    * 9er FA's that, IMO, will not be a 9er for the 2025 season
    * DT Javon Hargrave
    * CB Chavarious Ward
    * LB De'Vondre Campbell
    * OG Aaron Banks
    * S Talanoa Hufanga
    * RB Elijah Mitchell
    * FA's the 9er FO would like to extend, but could receive offers from
other NFL teams the 9ers can't afford to match.
    * LB Dre Greenlaw
    * RB Jordan Mason
    * 2 DT's that may be on the 53 player roster, but won't be starters.
    * LDT Maliek Collins and RDT Jordan Elliott
    * WR Deebo Samuel requested a trade, but finding a trade partner that works for both teams presents a financial problem they can't resolved, despite the fact it's a move the 9ers should make.
    * And the number one player contract issue the 9er FO must resolve!
Signing BP to a contract extension, how it's structured and what it pays him.

  16. Great time of year. I have to agree that the focus needs to be DL and OL. We will know more after the combine and what they target in Free Agency but they need a minimum 2 DT, 1 edge and 2 OL. That being said I am a bit concerned with the WR room. With Deebo gone and and Aiyuk's injury there are lots of questions. If McMillan is there at 11 would you pull the trigger?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wouldn't pull that trigger but if in the 2nd Round Tre Harris is there my trigger finger might get a little itchy, lol.

      Delete
    2. Harris, my man! He's my WR1. Ultra productive over multiple years, good size, grwat hands, surprisingly good mover.

      Delete
    3. Yep. I think he is really underrated by most of the draft community. We're talking about a guy that has four years of good production under his belt, including an absolutely insane 2024 in the SEC that was unfortunately cut short. For a guy that was a QB in HS, it's really impressive.

The other guy I think is a little underrated is Emeka Egbuka. He's also really good. I could easily be persuaded to put him as WR1 over Harris.

      Delete
    4. The Ole Miss WR factory seems better than the Ohio St. factory. That and Harris has a better chance of being on the board at 43.

      Delete
    5. I feel like both guys will end up going round 1, and imo should both be top 20.

      Delete
    6. Razor
So, "IF" the 9ers find a trade partner for Deebo, you and your fickle itchy trigger finger could fulfil your wish the 9ers draft Miss. WR Tre Harris? You'd give up your 2nd Rd draft pick for T.J. Sanders, DT S. Carolina with draft pick #43?
SAY IT AIN'T SO! keep your wander eye on the ball, DON'T pull the trigger! LOL
How about Jack Bech, WR TCU, as a consolation prize at
      draft pick number 75?

      Delete
    7. Probably but as you said, Harris is getting slept on and flying under the radar. Does that change at the combine?

      Delete
    8. Harris is getting slept on by draftniks. We'll see if teams are sleeping on him.

I would take Harris over Sanders too. As I said, I think he's a top 20 guy. I like Sanders, but he's not a top 20 pick.

      Delete
    9. I think its possible Harris gets pushed down due to all the defensive players with this group:

      Isaiah Bond, Texas
      Tre Harris, Ole Miss
      Savion Williams, TCU

      Delete
    10. We'll see. Feels like wishful thinking to me. I think we'll start to hear rumblings over the next month of Harris being well regarded by NFL teams.

      Delete
    11. Well shoot, may already be starting, just saw this from NFL Rookie Watch on X.

"Tre Harris is reportedly ranked as the “WR2”on a handful of NFL scouts’ boards as of now, behind just Tetairoa McMillan.

Some NFL scouts reportedly believe Harris to be a “more complete prospect” than AJ Brown and DK Metcalf were coming out of Ole Miss.

Many NFL scouts reportedly believe Harris’ game is “easily” worth a Top-15 pick.

Some common comparisons Harris gets when talking to scouting sources include Michael Thomas and Brian Thomas Jr.

The Ole Miss WR is going to BLOW GM’s away at the combine 🤯"

      Delete
    12. Shame. Would have been a perfect hedge for Aiyuk and possibly made him available for trade once and if he were to reestablish his stock.

      Delete
    13. Scooter / Razor
Tre Harris isn't a WR I have as one of my draft picks. Here is what I'm seeing on his NFL Scouting Report by some NFL evaluators.
      Weaknesses:
      * "Height: Harris's height can limit his agility and impact his route running".
      * "Run down: Harris can be run down from behind.
      Overall assessment:
      * Harris is considered a good but not great athlete. He has the potential to be an effective receiver and blocker in the NFL.
      * I suspect that answers question why he's not considered a
      first round draft pick?
      * IMO, his Combine measurements, performance and interview may change where he's drafted? TBD.
      * The WR I'd like the 9ers to draft is Jack Bech, WR TCU. He
checks all the boxes. IMO, both Bech and Harris have similar stats, production, YAC and size. Even their 40 times are the
      same, 4.55s.

      Delete
    14. Scooter: Production!
      Tre Harris: 6' 3" X 210: 60 receptions, 1030 rec yards, 7 rec TD's 17.2 rec avg, 40 = 4.55s, His QB rating when targeted is 143.0 (why he's 2nd Rd draft pick)
      * A possession receiver who elevates his game in big moments
      * Displays exceptional body control and timing to box out defenders and high-point throws like a power forward snagging rebounds
      * Natural hands-catcher who plucks the ball away from his frame with vice-grip mitts, rarely allowing it into his body even in traffic
      * Elite ball tracker on deep routes who feels defenders and adjusts his path without losing speed, making him deadly on go routes and posts
      * Physical monster in the red zone who understands how to use his frame to wall off defenders, giving his QB a massive catch radius
      * Shows savvy in his stems and breaks, particularly on in-breaking routes where he sets up defenders with subtle head-and-shoulder fakes
      * Excellent field awareness - consistently finds soft spots against zone coverage
      * Clutch performer who elevates his game in big moments
      * He may not threaten the 4.3 guys in a footrace, Harris's combination of size, strong hands, and competitive toughness will make him a reliable chain-mover and red-zone weapon at the next level.

      Jack Bech: 6' 2" X 215: 62 receptions, 1034 rec yards, 9 rec TD's, 16.7 rec avg, 40 = 4.55s, His QB rating when targeted is 125.9 (why he's 3rd Rd draft pick).
      * A possession receiver with standout performances in big games
      * Plus-sized frame with functional play strength to box out defenders and win in traffic
      * Soft hands and natural ball skills, excelling in contested catch situations
      * Savvy route runner who understands how to set up defenders and find soft spots in zone coverage
      * Demonstrates body control and spatial awareness to work the sidelines and end zone
      * Reliable chain-mover with a knack for moving the sticks on crucial downs
      * Versatile enough to align both outside and in the slot, offering scheme flexibility
      * Shows willingness as a blocker in the run game, using his frame effectively
      * Productive against top-tier competition, indicating potential to contribute early at the next level
      LOL?? WHY?

    15. Tre Harris, 3,545 career yards on 220 catches. 70 yards per game. Average of 3 yards per route run.

Jack Bech, 1,869 career yards on 133 catches. 42 yards per game. Average of 1.86 yards per route run.

Taking 2024 only - Harris averaged 129 yards per game, Bech averaged 86.

That is not similar production. Not even close.

Btw, really no need to copy and paste scouting reports. I've read them.

    16. FYI, Harris' 3 yards per route run are easily the best in this WR class.

      Delete
    17. And yet with all Harris' additional yards and catches, Jack Bech scored 2 more TD's than Harris? And I thought close only counted in Horse shoes and hand grenades.....
Just a little Satire on what wins games?

    18. Again, Lol.

Harris - 29 TDs in 51 career games, 7 TDs in 8 games in 2024.

Bech - 13 TDs in 45 career games, 9 TDs in 12 games in 2024.

I like Bech, but he is a 1 year wonder. Harris has been productive four straight years. And even in Bech's 1 good year, Harris was considerably more productive on a per game basis.

      Delete
    19. Last 10 years of FBS... Only 2 WRs with 3 straight years of 50 catches & 900yds.

    20. Scooter
Bech, a "1 year wonder that scored 2 more TD's than Harris in 2024. Since the object of the game is to score TD's. Bech
scored more points...And points win games...Satire? I also like Harris, even if he was out scored by Bech in 2024.
It's how they finished, not how they started, that NFL scouts look for and evaluate.
Since I don't have a dog in the fight, I hope they both become
NFL stars, but I'd still draft a DT or DE

    22. Satire, or Rorschach test...Take your pick.

      Delete
    23. Harris is interesting. The only thing that scares you is the sample size with the competition level (and his high drop rate). He put up some Massive numbers against Fuhrman, MTSU, GA Southern... now he didnt struggle against Wake, LSU or anyone really, he was about as dominant as can be.
Another similar, and likely cheaper prospect to Harris is Higgens in terms of build, traits and position (X receiver) I will be paying attention to their combine measurables pretty closely.

    24. Yeah, Higgins is another in a similar mold. And later I'd say Pat Bryant is another option in that profile.

I am very interested in how he tests. I am of the belief he will surprise people a bit, be around 4.5s 40 with good explosion and decent agility. He seemed to have no trouble running away from people once he got going, and his double moves were pretty explosive.

If he ends up not testing well then I will cool on him a bit.

  19. Jalin Conyers 6030 263lbs. High School QB as a freshman/sophomore with ball skills and Yac. Texas Tech lined him up everywhere. Lacks explosion, limited route tree and inline blocking technique is a work in progress.

    1. Perhaps the 49ers look at Conyers as an eventual replacement for Juice. He has the size and enough athletic ability to provide more than blocking. He is an intriguing player.

  20. Razor,
This is a draft that I would really like. Yes you would like to add a better Olineman but you dont know who will be available and this should make the defense formidable immediately. Scourton, Sanders and Bosa your pass rush should be solid, and Makuba would be a nice pairing w/ Mustapha... M&M giving solid range and coverage on the back end.
While Collins could blow up the run game for most teams, and Alexander provides a developmental starter for the secondary.

    Good stuff

  21. Tre Harris averaged 10.47 yards per route run against man coverage. This is one of the greatest metrics I’ve ever seen.

For context, Heisman winner DeVonta Smith averaged 6.65 YPRR against man coverage.

    1. It was also around 5 yards per route run overall, 2 yards more than the next closest. Crazy levels of efficiency. It was also very high in 2023 at 3.17.

  22. QUESTION FOR ANY ONE THAT KNOWS: 49ers Director of Scouting, Josh Williams, was named a finalist in the Jaguars search for a new GM.
    * If Josh Williams is hired by the Jaguars as their new GM, my
understanding is the 9ers will receive 2 third round comp draft pick?
My question is: Will the 9ers receive the 2 comp draft picks in 2025?

    ReplyDelete
  23. According to Google the 49ers will receive a 3rd round pick in the following years draft. I'm not sure what the following year means. I do know they will receive a 3rd one year and another 3rd the next year. There is something very strange about the Jags search. It is being run by the owners right hand man who is also a candidate for the job. I wonder if its all about the Rooney rule.

Thanks. I looked at Google also and like you, wasn't sure what the following years meant? 2025? 2026? I was also not aware that Williams was a minority, so I'd guess the Rooney Rule is involved?
Then there's the part about the Jaguars have "narrowed it down to
5 candidates," including Tony Boselli who's just weeks into his tenure as the team's executive vice president of football operations?
But then I remembered this is the same team that hired former GM Trent Baalke....And current Jaguars interim GM Ethan Waugh

  25. Per Hayden Winks.

"Missouri RT Armand Membou's pressure rate allowed against these top-50 prospects: Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, James Pearce, Shemar Stewart, Nic Scourton, Donovan Ezeiruaku, and Jack Sawyer

    2.7%"

While I agree with razor that OL isn't all that likely in round 1, that is very impressive and goes to show why people like Brugler have him rated so highly.

    1. You think Membou would beat out McKivitz in camp for RT?

    2. I do. And if not, he could play OG.

    3. I think he would beat out McKivitz absolutely... but I also think SF would choose to play him at LG so he could kick over to LT when Trent eventually retires.
