  2. The 9ers’ promotion of Klay Kubiak to OC may not be a simple procedure, Despite 9ers KS saying he'll name Klay Kubiak the offensive coordinator.
The NFL requires every team to interview at least TWO external minority candidates in person or virtually for a coordinator job.

Not according to this article...Someone is blowing smoke in your
ear. They rate the Chargers O-Line 18th out of 32 NFL teams.
    They rate the 9ers O-ine 14th.

    * NFL Offensive Line Rankings 2024: Insights Into All 32 OLs Entering Wild Card Weekend.
*"The biggest concern for the Chargers’ OL will be that they have not graded over a C against any playoff-bound team this year. Their best outcome was a C against the Ravens in Week 12, but they have four games graded as a D+ or below and a further two graded as a C-. In total, they have seven games this year graded as a D+ or worse."

    1. Still pathetic that Jennings got tossed. Officials were being weak, and the league office just confirmed it.

    2. The refs could have kept Jennings from reaching his first 1k rec yrds. They definitely overreated.

  10. This first week of playoffs is showing me that Purdy is as good as or better than many of the big money QBs, and the 49ers absolutely must improve the interior of both lines to stop the run and get their own run game going.

For a LB drafted in the middle rounds (3rd - 4th), It would be
between Chris Paul and Smael Mondon. If the priority is speed (Sideline-to-sideline range), I'd draft Mondol. His skillset makes him an good fit for teams employing a lot of nickel packages. If your priority is pass rush and run defense, then I'd draft Paul. His skillset translates well to teams running multiple fronts.
    * UCLA's Carson Schwesinger is a dog, but too thin-framed LB with questionable anchor, who gets swallowed by size and lacks pop in his hands when taking on blocks. IMO, likely a ST player his first year or two.
    * Who I'd draft, would also depend on 9ers resigning Greenlaw.

  15. JJ and Dallas part ways with HC McCarthy:
McCarthy's contract with the JJ ran out, and his time with the team has run its course.....
McCarthy, won't return next season. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the two sides were unable to come to terms on the length of contract, and decided to part ways.
After JJ denied Chicago's request to interview McCarthy for their
HC position, he's now free to go from the frying pan to the fire!

    ReplyDelete
  16. We should try to get Dallas Special Teams coordinator - John Fassel. One of the best to do it! Now that McCarthy is gone, pay him whatever he wants.... Asst Head Coach etc and get him in.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wouldn't be too fast jumping on that bandwagon. Cowboys have suffered through more than their fair share of STs blunders under Fassel.

I also highly doubt Shanahan would sanction the fake punts that Fassel likes to try and run (a few which have failed in recent years).

      Delete
    2. I am on the Fassell band wagon. His units are top 5 consistently. I haven't heard what the long term health update is on Wishnowski but if he is healthy next year and the 9ers sign Fassell I could see Wishnowski running for as many as 10 first downs. People have forgotten how great an athlete Wishnowski was in college. Fassell has also developed Ks at every team he has coached. Maybe that's all Moody needs or Fassell can find a FA K and we could have the next Brandon Aubrey. The problem lies with KS he doesn't value STs and won't give his ST coaches as many roster spots as they want. That could be the deal breaker.

      Delete
    3. I'd prefer a younger guy as Special Teams coach.

      Delete
    4. I would prefer going from 32nd in ST to the top 10 (with Fassell), than going with a younger guy with less experience like Sorenson.

I'm sick of losing games because of ST.

      Delete
    5. I highly doubt Shanahan will change his mentality so much as to be happy to be aggressive on STs, like Fassel is. Shanahan has straight up said in the past he's after a STs unit that doesn't lose games - that's what he's after. Not a risk taking unit.

  17. 49ers just interviewed Iowa State WR coach/ passing game coordinator Noah Pauley for the OC job. Obviously he won't be getting that job and it's just to meet the Rooney Rule requirements, but I also don't think it's a completely farcical interview. Pauley is highly regarded - wouldn't surprise me if the 49ers offer him a role in some capacity.

  18. If the Vikings Oline can't protect Darnold they will be responsible in making him lose a lot of money.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Darnold is exactly who we thought he was. Baldinger said he'd flip Purdy for Darnold and he looks like a fool. Not sure what prompted him to say it, but it reminded me of Jaworski saying Kaepernick had the potential to be the greatest of all time.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I missed most of the game as I was traveling, but 9 sacks speaks for itself- additionally, he was under pressure via Detroit and had very small windows to target as WR's got little to no separation- I suspect that that OL will cost Darnold a boatload of $

      Delete
    2. Any QB including Purdy would have looked bad playing behind the Vikings horrendous Oline on Monday night. Darnold has been a god-send for Minn this past season. It's going to be interesting to see if Minn or other potential teams put more weight on his reg season play or postseason play

      Delete
    3. Darnold held the ball like he had the Eagles OL. 90% of those sacks were on him. He still struggles reading defenses and pressure continues to press him into bad decisions.

      Delete
    4. Why is it that when Purdy holds the ball to long, it's because his receivers can't get open? Even Tom Brady brought that up during a 49ers game coverage. I like Purdy, but I won't cover for his or any other 49er players mistakes.

      Delete
    5. Sacks have always typically been on the quarterback and pressures on the OL. The quickest sack Darnold took was 3.2 seconds. That's an eternity.

  20. Brock Purdy has the lowest interception rate (0.6%) in NFL postseason history (min. 150 attempts).

  22. So I ran a mock draft (Which I do daily) on profootballnetwork, and of course traded back multiple times using the computer generated offers.
I tried to draft based on where I had them ranked and who I thought might be available.
These were my first 4 rounds of selections
After trading down multiple times I finally got to my first selection.

    32. OT - Armand Membou - I prefer Josh Connerly but he is closely rated IMO. Hes good on the hoof, still young and raw but showed huge improvements this past year. He has the potential to move to LT later on.

    43. DT - Kenneth Grant - I am not sure he will be there but if not I also Like TJ Sanders out of South Carolina. This should add some heft to the middle of the DL. I would be happy to add 2 DT's

    52. Edge - Mike Green - I actually think he will move into the first during the draft process but his being from a small school could see him fall into our waiting arms. I love his tenacity and reckless play style and he is stout at the POA.

    64. TE - Harold Fannin Jr. - finally a TE that has starting potential. Though I do wonder what he will measure at in indy.., If he us too small I would go a different direction, but George needs a successor and if he is too small FB :)

    75. DE - Danni Dennis Sutton - He is a bit of a tweener who has good size and but lacks bend though this is less important in the wide 9. Also those types have thrived here and I like platoons of DLinemen.

    83. OC - Jared Wilson - It's a slight reach but he is the only center I really like in this draft. He's highly athletic and has an anchor and routinely has shown the ability to make reach blocks for the OZ. He is not a road grader but does get some push as he is almost always the low man.

    101. TE - Terrance Ferguson - Yes, I double dipped at TE but he has better size and provides a safety net for the Fannin Jr. pick. I dont see him as being exceptional but he can block and has very good hands think Trey McBride but slightly less athletic. *note* I didnt think Trey would do what he has done coming out so I am speaking of them more prospects.

    112. LB - Lander Barton. Taller, Athletic LB that used to be a safety. He is smart and good in coverage though I would like more thump to his game.

Looking back I would have really liked to have grabbed a coverage
safety or another plugging DT but I am happy the way it came out.

If anyone doesn't like them, or thinks someone else is being slept on that would be available in those areas, I would be curious to hear your opinions. I'll try not to take it Personal ;)

    1. I agree you should have gone IDL twice and Safety at 64, maybe Ty Robinson over Sutton and a rb over the center.

    2. Robinson is definately an interesting prospect and He makes sense... nice suggestion.
There are not a lot of safeties I like in this draft... and I dont want to reach for one given the fact that they are so weak in the trenches but I still need to research this position group.

    3. I like the idea of trading down for an extra day 2 pick. Not sure I'd trade back more than once though. I'd be looking to fill some holes through FA.

I also really like Membou, and Grant and Green at those spots would be great value.

Razor suggested Ty Robinson as an alternative round 3 guy, and I would suggest Mukuba at S in round 3/ late round 2.

  24. After what the Rams young Dline did against the Vikings, I believe that it will be crucial to upgrade the Oline. The 49ers are certainly not in rebuild mode, but they definitely need to build the Oline in order to stay competitive with the Rams for the foreseeable future. The battle to win the west division now goes through the Rams.

    1. And if anyone is wondering, they do both get along. When Rizzi was installed as interim HC to replace Allen, Rizzi outlined they are friends and even joked about the possibility of coaching together again somewhere soon.

  27. Since free agency comes before the draft can anyone tell me who the best FA C, OGs, OTs. D linemen and LBs are?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think the best interior OL available will be OGs Trey Smith, Kevin Zeitler and Teven Jenkins, and center Drew Dalman. Would love to see the 49ers bring in one of those guys, particularly Dalman given the need at center. Will Fries, Mekhi Becton and James Daniels the next tier, as well as Banks.

At OT you have Ronnie Stanley, Cam Robinson and Tyron Smith. But highly doubt the 49ers will be in the FA OT market.

At DT, Poona Ford is a guy I'd target. DJ Jones will get a lot of love from 49er fans. Milton Williams from the Eagles could be an interesting one as well.

Edge has quite a few profile names (Mack, Josh Sweat, Reddick, Ojulari, Koonce, Judon among others) but doubt the 49ers play in that market with Bosa, Floyd and Gross-Matos on the books already. But never know - with so many available might be able to get a bargain.

At LB, I'd go after Jamien Sherwood, but I suspect he'll have a few suitors. If the 49ers hire Saleh or Ulbrich they may have the inside track though.

I like Membou as well. But I would hope that he's available in the 3rd rd. I believe that Jonah Savaiinea could be a day one starter and down his position for years. I would not be surprised if the 49ers take him at 11. A potential combination of Savaiinea and Membou on the Oline would be an instant upgrade. If Mike Green is there at 43, this would be BOSS draft for the 49ers.

  34. With the 9er season over and looking ahead to the 2025 draft, a few thoughts on who the 9ers will draft and why!
    1) Both KS and O-line coach Forester have been quite clear they don't
believe in drafting O-lineman in the 1st or 2nd RD. Also, JL's MO is to
build the D-line from the inside out.
    2) There are, IMO, 4 players that could potentially change who and in
what round, the 9er draft. BP, CMC, Greenlaw and Hargrave.
BP: Hopefully, he'll accept a multi year contract with AVV $55 to $60 Mil per year. IF NOT? That becomes JL's number one priority!
    * CMC: Will he be 100% next year? He'll be 29 Y/O and had suffered from bilateral Achilles tendinitis, prior to injuring the PCL in his knee.
Should KS limit his touches to 15 per game, especially the first 1/2
of the 2025 season and keep him healthy for the playoffs? With the
injuries to the other 9er RB's, the 9ers should draft another RB in Rd
    three or four.
    * Greenlaw: If the 9ers don't succeed in resigning him, drafting a LB
early in the draft, becomes a 9er priority.
    * Hargraves: I don't believe Hargraves will be a 9ers next season!
But if he is, IMO, it will change who the 9ers draft in the 1st - 2nd RD.

    Who will the 9ers draft?
Rd #1 9ers trade down (late 20's), for Walter Nolan DT, Miss. plus
(early 40's) Wyatt Milum OT, West Virginia
Rd #2: J.T. Tuimoloau EDGE, Ohio State
Rd #3: TreVeyon Henderson RB, Ohio State & Davison Igbinosun
    CB, Ohio State
Rd #4: Jake Majors C, Texas & Smael Mondon Jr. LB, Georgia
