The 49ers lead the league in TOP. The Cowboys rank 30th in TOP. Mason's 19 carries inside the 10-yard line rank 1st among RBs. The Cowboys have struggled to keep RBs out of the end zone, ranking 31st in rushing TD allowed to the position. Wouldn't be a shock to read the final stat sheet and see that Shanahan dropped a 40 burger running the ball tonight. Taking into consideration that Purdy currently is struggling against man coverage, expect the Cowboys to be in it quite a bit. This could present Brock with some running lanes, especially without Parsons and a weakened secondary without Bland. Give me the Niners, 34-20 over the Cowboys. Go Niners!

Report: Two Patriots players among possible 49ers trade targets
ReplyDeletehttps://sports.yahoo.com/report-two-patriots-players-among-222329608.html
* Run-stuffing interior defensive lineman Davon Godchaux and ex-Niners wide receiver Kendrick Bourne among the possible targets," Russini wrote. "Two other former San Francisco players, defensive tackles DeForest Buckner [Colts] and D.J. Jones [Broncos], have been discussed internally by team decision-makers but I don’t get the sense Indy or Denver are open to moving either player."
Amos elevated from practice squad, will make 49ers debut vs. Cowboys
ReplyDelete* The 49ers on Saturday elevated Amos and kicker Anders Carlson from the practice squad to be available to face the Dallas Cowboys in the Week 8 game at Levi’s Stadium.
https://sports.yahoo.com/amos-elevated-practice-squad-49ers-210126576.html
This one could come down to special teams and the 49ers are ranked #31 while the Cowboys are ranked #1.
ReplyDeleteIt shouldn't but it "could".
DeleteThe Cowboys defense allows the 2nd most rushing yards per game when stacking the box
ReplyDeleteThe 49ers offense has the 2nd most rushing yards per game when facing stacked boxes
Right now the only team the Niner's can beat is themselves.
ReplyDeleteNiners 24 Cowboys 10, I cant help it.
What's wrong with the 49ers?
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious that KS has run Mason into the ground, he's obviously completely out of gas at the moment. Let's see if Kyle can hit the trifecta with Gurrendo!
ReplyDeleteJust too many mistakes as usual. They have 6 penalties already. Just not playing sound football.
ReplyDeleteI've been impressed with the rookies, not so much with a lot of the vets. Brock is missing some easy throws. OL hasn't been terrible.
ReplyDeleteUh Oh
ReplyDelete469 yards of offense. 2 blown coverages late or this would have been a blowout.
ReplyDeleteFelix,
Delete+1.
Nice to catch a glimpse of the real 49ers, although they made it a little shaky at the end. Guerrendo is going to be dangerous going forward and Mr. Miracle Pearsall had his best game as a pro, good for him.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely the best rookie class from Lynch given his 2024 draft position.
The Niners finally held off an assault. Hopefully this turns around their season. Lenoir interception I believe has ignited this defense and hopefully it will carry over to their remaining games.
ReplyDeleteI get that the secondary had some miscues at the end, but I don't understand how you don't double their most dangerous offensive weapon, Ceedee Lamb.
ReplyDelete- especially knowing his target rate ......... I think they need to get a big DT to help stunt the inside runs. I assume they're staying out there for GB/Buffalo trip- that trip will go a long way in determining the season
DeleteI thought E. Anderson played really well.
DeleteGivens has a groin issue...... I do like him- and I like that they moved Okuayinonu inside- at least I saw him inside once..... w his size and hustle, he reminds me of Ferrell, who I liked.
DeleteDodged a bullet there. Shouldn't have been that close, but glad to have a win! Offense needs more consistency and discipline. Defense woke up in the 4th Quarter and I was pleasantly surprised with the Special Teams.
ReplyDeleteWe Gotta resign Lenoir....I thought he had a big mouth for a small body, but dude has swag and came to play today! Nice to see the Rookies shine, and they will only get better. Isaac G finally found the holes...but his pass protection needs to improve.
We are tied at 1st place in the NFC West... with the Pesky Cards who keep winning close games and Seattle, whose players literally fight themselves(!!).
I think the True competition is the Rams. But that is for another day....enjoying the win. Go Niners!
Lenoir is going to get a bag- just hope it is from Jed/John...... I would be curious to see Ward's grades, but would certainly be inclined to keep him at a reasonable expense....... draft a Corner top 3 rounds, please........ what do they do w Hufunga in the offseason?
DeleteHuf is one of the 'gold helmet' guys (like McKivitz). So we will definitely keep him... also safety market is soft.
DeleteGotta be create and make J.Hargrave a post June 1 cut like Armstead.
How I wish we had kept Womack instead of Bell!! Womack is balling in Indianapolis. :(
I kept waiting to see more of Womack due to his reputation for playing sticky Man and the rumors that the 49ers were going to play more Press Man, which I was excited about - sucks for us when he could have been the Slot this year maybe..... or outside w Lenoir inside......
DeleteCan you imagine what the Niners record would be without the rookie class?
ReplyDeleteDid you all see the look on George's face when Nick Bosa, in an extremely classless fashion, decided to video bomb and take the spotlight away from Kittle, Purdy, and Gurrendo's post game interview, pissing all over the positive "team vibes" in order to force his purely political views into what should have been a galvanizing team moment.
ReplyDeleteWe've all known Nick Bosa is the definition of the term MEATHEAD, just listen to the guy talk, lol. However, I think it's genuinely apropos that the one player on the 49ERS who literally takes a full minute to string together one semi-coherent sentence, is a MAGA cultist hell bent on dividing the 49ers locker room. It's no wonder the 49ers team chemistry this season seems truly corrosive!
Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAhh yes, jealousy is indeed an ugly emotion....As you've demonstrated ad nauseam!
Jealousy? Seriously? That's all you've got, GEEP? You seem as tongue tied as Nick does at the podium every time he tries to express his ideas. I understand he's a football player and not a professional talker, by my goodness, how hard is it to at least try to sound like you know what you are talking about. Like I said, he reinforces every "athletic meathead" stereotype in the world. At least he's really good at football, since talking is clearly not his thing!
DeleteI do have to say that I think the guy is an AMAZING football player! I truly do have great respect for him as the football player and athlete. He has a level of maturity in his game, but I've heard and believed for a long time that he's divisive in the locker room.
DeleteIs it a big enough thing to matter?
I think it was in 2020, and now again in 2024 I've seen it first hand, belligerently budding in and taking all of the attention away from Guerendo's hard earned FIRST EVER interview (Guerendo is my guy, who I mocked to Niners) of that kind. That is belligerent, and even though his teammates are thinking "oh, that's just Nick being Nick", it's just low class, or low brow, whatever you want to call it, and that's all I am going to say!
Anonymous
DeleteChill Dude! Remember what your wife told you when you
get into a hyperemotional state? How it leads to histrionic and attention-seeking behavior?
I am 100% sure that fans care more about Bosa's political views than his team-mates. All you ever hear about Bosa from his team-mates is how much they respect him and what a good leader he is.
DeleteAES
ReplyDeleteCleveland spoiled a Baltimore party, with a late 4th Qtr TD! And the
Steelers should beat the NYG tonight, putting them up a game on
Baltimore.
GEEP,
ReplyDeleteThe Browns win over the Ravens was a shocker. And the Steelers have been ball'n this season. I still have Balt winning the division and beating KC in the AFC Champ game to make a SP appearance against Detroit. Unless my crystal ball breaks, lol.
The good, the bad and the ugly from the 9er VS Dallas game:
ReplyDeleteThe good: The 9er rookies and a win is a win, I'll take it.
The bad: Too many mistakes for a playoff contender! Lost Deebo TD!
The ugly: Sloppy play, almost blowing another 4th Qtr double digit lead
Purdy is not as sharp in his passing as he's been the last two seasons. The Oline has not been as strong as past two seasons either. The D is still not stout enough to make a deep playoff push. But, if these areas can improve going into the 2nd half of the season they will catch fire at the right time.
DeleteAES
Delete"Purdy is not as sharp in his passing as he's been the last two seasons."
* I attribute that to KS not using play action as much, because
opposing teams and playing man & pressman Defense more. Also, When BP drops back to pass, the opposing defenses are blitzing more. (copying KC DC Spagnuolo).
"The Oline has not been as strong as past two seasons either."
* Yes and no! TW was rusty from hold out and Banks still runs
hot and cold. On the right side, Puni is a big improvement. And while McKivitz still can't pass block, combined with Puni,
the run blocking on the right side is, IMO, better than the left.
The D is still not stout enough to make a deep playoff push.
* That's TBD. I want to see if DT Even Anderson can improve
the run Defense, I also want to see if moving Sam Okuayinonu
inside helps?
Puni has played 549 snaps this year, the most among all rookies regardless of position.
ReplyDeletePuni ranks ranks 12th among guards in pass block win rate (94.1%) and his run block win rate of 74.5% is 14th among players who have played at least 100 snaps at guard.
Purdy hasn't been as good cuz he's working with fringe roster players in Conley and Bell, which is also affecting his mechanics, making it sloppy. Just my opinion for what its worth.
ReplyDeleteRazor,
DeletePurdy has not been as sharp as seasons past. But he's also missed on passes to his top WRs not just fringe WRs. But that aside, I'm seeing the heart of a warrior in that he's finding ways to keep the team in contention with the exception of the KC game. He'll be fine and Shanahan will develop a way to make him productive against Man-D
In any conversation about how Purdy has performed it should be kept in mind that just two weeks ago many talking heads were raving about how he's evolved into a truly elite player this year.
DeleteThe Chiefs game made something of a mockery of that, but let's not lose sight that for the most part he has been good to great this year. Including vs the Cowboys.
Definitely not elite. But, I do see better days ahead for him. Especially, with stars coming back after the bye.
DeleteIf all of the 49ers injured players are able to return after the bye week it is going to set up some interesting cuts. Possibly returning CMC, Greenlaw, Hufanga, Gross-Matos and Feliciano. Am I forgetting anyone?
ReplyDeleteOldCoach
Delete* I don't expect to see KS use CMC as the bell cow! Mason has proved he is a capable replacement and from what little we've seen from Guerendo, he also appears capable of packing the rock.
* While I agree, If all of the 49ers injured players are able to return after the bye week, it's going to improve the 9ers. But
it's also going to take a couple of weeks for them to get used to getting hit! After an injury, getting back to football shape is as much mental as it is physical. There is also NO guarantee of NOT getting re-injured.
* RE interesting cuts: If you're talking about next season, then a lot will depend on A) The new NFL cap number. B) BP's new contract numbers and C) How good the 9ers 2025 draft is.
If the 2025 draft is close to being as good as the 2024 draft, there will be fewer vets needed for depth.
Coach,
ReplyDeleteHaving snapped my Achilles before, I know that it takes years to fully heal. I would love to see Greenlaw ready to play in January, but I would also be concerned about his effectiveness.
AES,
DeleteI totally agree. I don't see Greenlaw at 100% until 2026 if then.
I think we'll see Greenlaw first week of December.
ReplyDeleteWhich Greenlaw will we see is the question. I agree with GEEP in that it takes time when a player returns from injury to get used to the physical and mental side of the game. Hopefully, Greenlaw is ready in all aspects of the game when he returns
DeleteGreenlaw is one of one. He'll be ready.
DeleteCoach,
ReplyDeleteI tore my Achilles in 1985. Obviously, the medical advancements have greatly evolved since then. So, I'm hoping to see Greenlaw ready by next Summer. "Hoping" is the key word.
Time for 100% recovery of an Achilles tear can vary based on the severity of the tear, the persons age, fitness level, and quality of rehabilitation! Even with modern medicine, a full 100% recovery for NFL pro player, an Achilles injury requires a lengthy rehabilitation process, often impacting an entire football season.
ReplyDelete* For an average person, a tendon may heal within a few months, but regaining their full explosiveness and agility necessary for a professional football player takes much longer.
Even if Greenlaw returns by December, how long will it take for him
get in football shape, let alone be a 100%?
GEEP,
ReplyDeleteThe biggest issue in the healing process (for me, at least) was the blood flow in my Achilles. The Achilles is a big ligament with limited blood flow to begin with. Hopefully, modern medicine has solved this.
There have been 26,276 quarters of NFL football played since 2000 (reg & post).
ReplyDeleteIn only one of those did a QB throw for 100+ yards on 100% completions while also rushing for 30+ yards.
That one QB was Brock Purdy in the 3rd quarter Sunday night.
AES
ReplyDeleteYes sir, I get it!! I would argue that modern medicine has solved this issue, it's called Orthokine. In the US it is known as Regenokine therapy. But as previously discussed, US politics gets involved and it's labeled a drug, which it's NOT! The results is, you have to travel to a foreign country to receive the latest (best) therapy.
In the 1980s Dr. Wehlin developed the treatment Orthokine. It's not
the same as PRP because he said, "he heats the blood and that is why it cannot be practiced in the United States.”
If you want all the details, here is an article that explains both PRP
and Orthokine therapy.
https://stemcellinstitute2.com/what-is-the-difference-between-prp-therapy-and-regenokine/
Good info GEEP.
ReplyDeleteOkuayinonu has 15 quarterback pressures in just 90 pass rushes this season, good for a pressure rate of 16.7 percent. - Source = CSN via PFF
ReplyDeleteHe looked good rushing from the interior against the Cowboys.
DeleteBosa said that he likes Sam O' ability to adapt. Noting that Sam didn't train at the inside tackle position during TC.
DeleteNick Bosa leads the NFL in turnovers forced by pressures this season (3).
DeleteThat pressure on Dak for the first INT by Brown not only resulted in the turnover but also prevented a TD.
DeleteI've agreed with Belichick that pressures are more valuable than sacks.
DeleteThat makes sense since there are many more pressures than sacks. Pressures create turnovers and bad throws and most likely has more of an impact of the outcome of games than sacks.
Deletediptown
ReplyDeleteIf you know, how many pressures has Okuayinonu had as a DE and how many as a DT?
I believe it stated he had two pressures from the inside on his limited snap count there- I sure would like to see more of him there....... Givens has a groin that hopefully he recovers from - but "O" on the inside and maybe looking at a Center/Guard combo via free agency to bolster/spell Brendel and Banks
Deletediptown
DeleteThe 9ers have NOT had a top Center since Alex Mack.
The Center for Kansas, Bryce Foster, could change that. He's listed at 6'5" X 330. His 40 is 4.95s and his shuttle is 4.74s. He's listed as a 5th Rd draft pick, so he is fits the 9er philosophy of drafting day 3 players and is someone
Chris Forester could mold into a starter at C or OG.
Google a scouting report on him and see if you agree?
The above post was me.....Forgot to log in....
DeleteCharvarius Ward you have my sincere condolences.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences and prayers as well for the Ward family.
ReplyDeleteVery sad.
ReplyDeleteVery. It is so easy to forget these athletes are just people and they all have their own troubles outside of football, which sometimes are far more important than football.
DeleteI hope he takes whatever time he needs - whether that means getting right back to it or taking an extended period away.
Heartbreaking news! She was named Joy..... Prayers Up!
DeleteYes sir.
ReplyDeleteJohn Lynch on Trades:
ReplyDelete"When I look at our trade deadline, I look at our IR list, and I say, [RB Christian] McCaffrey, [LB Dre] Greenlaw, Gross-Matos, [S Talanoa] Hufanga, if we can get those guys back, I think that's the boost we need as much as anybody we're going to bring in from the outside," Lynch explained.
I still expect them to explore trade value for the Oline. The injured players returning are a plus. But expecting them to play at full pre-injury level may be too ambitious.
TBD
49ers OL ranks 11th in Pass Pro. I expect them to target players like Ojulari from the Giants, ascending pass rusher, could blossom under Kocurek. Arden Key is another from the Titans. Zadarius Smith from the Browns. All three are affordable options that the 49ers could realistically add to help out that young secondary.
ReplyDeleteIf a good DT was to come available I'd prioritise that over an edge. But either will help a lot.
DeleteJarquez Hunter, RB, Auburn looks like someone Bobby could have interest in. Career-high 278 yards last Saturday, averaging career-best 7.2 ypc (𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘌𝘊), on-pace to finish as fourth-leading rusher in
ReplyDeleteAuburn history behind Bo Jackson, Cadillac Williams, and James Brooks.
Day 3 grade on Hunter. Mason Taylor, son of Jason looks like a nice TE prospect out of LSU, 6'4" 244lbs. I like OC Connor Tollison 6'4" 285lbs Missouri too as a fit in Shanahan's offense.
DeleteRazor,
ReplyDeleteWhat is your projected round? The offense could also use a TE. Any on the horizon that you like?
AES
ReplyDeleteI agree that getting the players you listed back off IR, will give the 9ers a boost. I would also add Jennings and Feliciano.
Other than Kittle, Jennings is, IMO, the best receiver the 9ers have that's healthy. And Feliciano is better than LG Banks, who consistently receives the lowest PFF grade for all the O-Lineman.
AND TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT:
Going forward, I want to see what D-Linman Sam Okuayinonu can contribute. Against Dallas, he contributed 1 sack, 2 hits, 2 hurries (3 pressures, 1 sack and 2 hits came while lined up on the interior)
The list of injured players boosting the team upon returning came from John Lynch. If these players can get their sea-legs and bodies ready for contact by late November, the will be much improved.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on Sam O. He may be the hidden gem the D needs on the Interior.
I agree.... Sam O should get more snaps than Floyd.
DeleteAES/Mug,
DeleteSam O seems like an effective pass rusher from inside. Is he also effective rushing the passer from outside and is he an effective run defender?
the *team will be
