  2. So if we're to believe the pass set grades for the 9er O-Line, we have a C that can't protect BP, An OG (Banks), that's not much better, if not for Puni improving the average. And one OT (TW), that's the best OT in the NFL, while the other OT (McKivitz) is at best, average?
If I was BP, I'd make a deal with Jed & JL for $10 Mil less on my new
contract, if they would agree to spend it on improving the O-Line.

Purdy just might be smart enough to understand that. After all how many millions does one need?

If I were BP, I would see it as a decision that would increase his NFL longevity as well as his income!
$10 Mil now, VS the additional million he'd make playing more years, not to mention winning a S/B.
      EXAMPLES:
      * Reddick injured BP's arm, that kept the 9ers out of a S/B. * Bufford missed a block on KC DT Jones, that kept BP from scoring in OT, and winning a S/B

Its not really a viable situation due to a whole bunch of variables.

How does he know that Ownership does due diligence on selecting a lineman?
Or how does he know that the money that ownership saved is invested in talent?
      What if the talent failed?
Would Purdy have a say so since its his 10 million?

Since the 9er ownership, FO, JL and KS prides themselves on being accountable and taking care of their players, why would they destroy their reputation by NOT doing their "due diligence."
"investing in talent, or sign talent that failed? With all the statistics that's available, would it not be obvious if the O-Line performance declined. or worse, if BP were injured? Would the 9er FO still be able to attract the best free agents?

Did the Yorks' learn NOTHING after the fiasco from the 2008 season when Mike Nolan was fired and replaced by Mike Singletary, who finished the season 5–4 and became the official head coach following that season? And after a 5–10 start to the 2010 season, Mike Singletary was fired and replaced by (I didn't fart), Tomsula for the final 49ers game of the 2010 season? Would 9er fans continue paying the price of season tickets?

"Would Purdy have a say so since its his 10 million?"
If he believed 9er management had failed to live up to their end of the agreement, he could vote with his feet and force the 9ers to trade him. Think of the $#(t storm that would crate.

  3. It's always good to see analytics that support what I think my eyes are telling me. The big question is: IF I CAN SEE IT, AND YOU CAN SEE I ... WHY CAN'T KYLE?

Either Kyle somehow doesn't see it, or he does see it, but doesn't know what to do about it? Either way it's concerning!

  4. Some good news on a 9er players recovery off IR
    * Kyle Shanahan: "Dre Greenlaw is getting close to return."

    ReplyDelete
  5. And more good news:
Kyle Shanahan: Christian McCaffrey hasn't had a setback since he began rehab.
    * The 9ers plan for CMC to return to practice next week following the team's off week and, if all goes well, return to the lineup in Week 10.

  6. Sometimes I actually like being wrong. I said that Greenlaw would likely not be in football playing mode until next summer. But, if he can play this year (at full speed) that would be a huge plus and I'd be glad to be wrong.

You and me both. I'm still not convinced he'll be a 100% this season, but as the old adage goes, "HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL!"

    2. AES,

Greenlaw was picking fights on the sidelines, during the KC game. I guess he was raring to go. We should be fine.

  7. Just my opinion: The 9ers need another pass rusher to make the playoffs!
    * The 9ers have Nick Bosa, one of the top pass-rushers in the NFL. Then, who else? Leonard Floyd was counted on to provide double-digit sacks when the 9ers signed him to a two-year, $20 million contract. With 3 sacks in eight games, can he still can get there?

    * Sam Okuayinonu has provided the 9ers with a nice lift as an inside pass-rusher in nickel situations.
    * Kevin Givens (3.5 sacks) and Maliek Collins (3 sacks) have provided some pass rush, too. But is that enough?
    * The 9ers also expect Yetur Gross-Matos to bring something to the D-line rotation when he returns later in the season.

The NYG lead the NFL with 35 sacks. All that's got them is a 2W - 6L record. Would they trade EDGE Azeez Ojulari, who's on the final year of his contract, to the 9ers?
    * Other DE pass-rushers with ties to the 9ers who may be available are Arden Key (Titans), Chase Young (NO Saints) and Za’Darius Smith (Browns), who has a reasonable price tags for this year and next.
    * 3Rd downs are when a consistent pass rush shows up the most. The 9ers rank 26th in the league, allowing a 44.1% of 3Rd down conversions.

    1. Geep,
What sort of draft capital would you be willing to give up for a pass rusher?

      Delete
    2. OldCoach
      * Per Spotrac, Ojulari has a 2024 base salary of $1,583,851 and is a F/A in 2025. I'd trade for him If the NYG were willing to take a 4th Rd draft pick in 2025.

      * Per Spotrac, Arden Keys signed a 3 yr, $21 Mil contract. His 2024 base is $1,420 Mil. but his 2025 Salary is $6.5 Mil base with $1.3 mil signing bonus, $250K roster bonus and $250K workout bonus. also, a $1Mil option proration. I'd pass on him.

      * Per Spotrac, Chase Young has a 2024 base salary of $2.7 Mil, a signing bonus of $1.860 Mil. and workout bonus of $450K. His contract says 2025 is a voidable year.
If the 9ers pay 1/2 of his 2024 salary (~$2.5 Mil) I'd be willing to give the Saints a 2025 4th Rd pick

  8. PFF's highest-graded coverage defender in the entire NFL (includes DBs):

    49ers linebacker Fred Warner

    1. Fred the "Predator" Warner is a beast! He's been in All-NFL mode all season.

  9. Dominick Puni is one of only two guards (Joe Thuney) who has played in at least seven games this season and has not allowed a QB sack or hit.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Puni represents the 49ers best draft class in the Shanahan/Lynch era.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I hope the 9ers don't make any trade deadline trades. They need as many draft picks in the 25 draft as possible. If they can score a draft class any where near this years class maybe their signing of BP for 60 mill or more won't close their SB window for 3 to 5 years.

  12. Adding a player by next week could help the team in a post season run. I believe the draft will take care of itself. If I'm Lynch, I would go all in for the 2nd half of this season, imho.

    1. Certainly can't give up on the season at 4-4. And so if you still believe this roster is Super Bowl calibre (which they should believe) then yeah, they should definitely be exploring all avenues to strengthen the squad so long as it doesn't significantly hurt their future ability to attain and retain players.

  13. Tough contracts happen every year. Players will come and go every year as well.
The 49ers can't sign every player. The key is keeping their best core guys and quickly develop their young players. This years draft class can ensure that the 49ers won't go into the 25 draft in panic mode. That's why I see them making a move next week to provide support for the stretch run.

    1. The previous reply was from me.

I agree. So long as the player they bring in doesn't eat up a huge slice of salary cap or take a high draft pick I can definitely see them adding a player.

But the other side of the coin is they do have some very real salary cap issues coming up, plus a star QB that needs to be paid. They need to keep as much cap to rollover as possible and they need the resources to bring in cheap labour.

Whatever moves they make have to work for both the now and the future.

    2. It's a two-edge sword. But, I believe that the 49ers FO have already been hard at work on all scenarios regarding upcoming contracts. Purdy's big bag is inevitable and no doubt the FO is well prepared. That's why I said that next year's draft will take care of itself. Bringing in a player next week that could boost their chances at a playoff push is also vital for this season. My motto when it comes to sports is anything can happen. Did anyone here ever think the 49ers would CMC a couple years ago?

    3. Adding a player like Za'Darius Smith whose on contract for 2 years at 5 million this year and 9 million next year makes sense. Ojulari will be a free agent next year and will likely want to get paid. It'll be interesting to see who or if they even make a move, but if they do you gotta believe it's DL.

      Delete
    4. Razor,
I love players that give their ALL in an effort to get the big contract. Ojulari might be that player.

    5. Krueg thinks the 49ers could use and DL player at the Trade Deadline. He mentions two players. Ojulari and Jacksonville's Travon Walker.

      Delete
    6. Yea, Walker and Smith are the big DE's the Niners need. Ojulari is too small. They already have players his size in Beal and Floyd.

    Aaron Jones: 21
