Shanny's Presser

If you haven't heard, Grant Cohn accused Kyle Shanahan of bad form when he went ahead with the scheduled team party after the shooting. As it turned out, Ricky Pearsall had face timed the head coach and the team with his miraculous recovery, reassuring and encouraging them to go ahead with their celebrations. Instead of taking the "L", Cohn double downed:

Cohn: "When you first got the news about Ricky and you were waiting to find out the severity did part of you want to drop everything and rush to the hospital with John to be there with him"?

Shanahan: "Uh, yea obviously, but I'm in charge of our team too, and I don't do that stuff just so you won't say something negative about me. I try to make the right decision for the people I'm responsible for and I had about 100 people about to show up at my house in an hour and half from there and I try to do things for the right reason. People that know me never question that...but I would never do something to avoid people saying bad things".

That my friends is taking a man to the wood shed in front of all his peers and cutting him down to the size he really is. Unbelievable!

  1. Latest from Santa Clara. CMC is limited because of Calf and Achilles injury. This is very worrisome. He originally injured his Calf in last years playoff. It was still bothering him at the start of camp. They gave him a month off and after one practice he is injured again. They may regret extending his contract. Could this be the beginning of the end?

  2. As to G. Cohn from what I have heard he is raking in the money. He has a cult like following that revel in anything negative. His wife is a High School Counselor, I worked in public education for close to 40 years and most of the counselors I have known are very caring and kind people. I wonder what his wife thinks about his behavior?

    1. Coach, good question. And how do you think his father thinks about they way Grant does his journalism, if you can call it that? I call it trash.

#49ers coach Kyle Shanahan says Brandon Allen will open the season as the No. 2 QB. Josh Dobbs will be No. 3.

  4. Cohn hasn’t changed. It’s always all about clicks. Most of his Shanahan comments over the years have been ridiculous. Kyle is too smart and too poised to fall into the Cohn trap. I kind of doubt he is “raking in the money”. Most people can see right thru him.

  5. Whenever you think of Cohn, think of these two statements:

    1) 49ers should draft Kellen Mond
    2) 49ers should start Trey Lance

This will tell you that all you need to know about his takes! He is like the entertainment you hire for your kid's birthday party...aka clown. :p

In other news Pearsall told KS that he can play vs Jets!! I'm beyond impressed by the Rook.

I would disagree with you with respect to your saying "He is like the ENTERTAINMENT you hire!"
      A) It's not entertainment, it's CHUTZPAH. Cohn would have his followers believe it is confidence, it is NOT! He is, as you point out, a rude, arrogant buffoon, exposing his ignorance as click
      bait.
      2) To view Cohn in the proper perspective, you'll recall ESPN laid off 20 high-profile sports commentators as part of their cost-cutting initiative and then hired Cohen. 3) Truth be known, he may have been hired by ESPN because of his wife, Linda Cohn.
      * It begs the question, Is Grant Cohn being supported by his wife? Is he her TOY BOY?
NOTE: Linda Cohn; Anchor at ESPN's Sports Center. In 2005, Cohn signed a contract extension with ESPN, which added play-by-play for WNBA telecasts to her duties. On June 20, 2008, ESPN announced that Cohn would be a regular anchor for the new morning block of SportsCenter, which launched on August 11 that year.
She hosted her 5,000th edition of SportsCenter on February 21, 2016, a record for SportsCenter anchors. Linda Cohn continues to regularly anchor SportsCenter from 1–3 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. She is also the host of the podcast "Listen Closely to Linda Cohn".

    2. Geep,
I'm not sure if your last post was tongue in cheek, if it was my apologies. G. Cohn doesn't work for ESPN he works for Sports Illustrated and his wife isn't Linda Cohn she is a woman of east Indian descent who is a high school counselor in the east bay.

    3. Yeah Geep. I concur with OldCoach.

I know GC's wife is of Indian origin. In either case, I think Family should be off limits. For all we know his wife might be a gem of a lady.

Anyway, we are spending way too many pixels discussing GC. Let's never speak off him again. :)

Btw, good game on now. Chiefs vs Ravens. Both teams looking beatable.

    4. Mug,
I know that I'm showing my impatience that somehow comes with old age for me these days. But I turned off the game the moment they showed Swift. If it wasn't for the 49ers playing in the SB, I would have flipped the channel on that game as well.

    5. AES - "...comes with old age" lol that's a true statement.

    6. Come on guys...Age is just a number. You sound like my Dad. :)

You all might wanna check the last few mins of the game. INSANE ending!

    7. I'll catch up to the highlights of the game at some point. It was bad enough for me to lose the SB. There's two images from that game that still gnaw at me. Watching Purdy overthrow the pass to Jennings near the endzone in overtime. And watching Swift on camera throughout the game. Yeah, I'm getting alright, and now I completely believe the old adage - "you can't teach an old dog new tricks," lol.

  6. GC is still trying to be his dad with a sprinkling of the late Pete Franklin. If he was ever hitch-hiking, I'd love to see Bam Davis and Javon Kinlaw pick him up, lol.

  7. Looks like CMC might not play Mon. I'm really worried that his calf/Achilles problem could limit him all season. Razor that was a brutal loss for the Irish today. What do you think of their coach?

  8. Can't say i'm feeling too confident about tonight's game. Both Williams and Aiyuk coming off no camp. CMC questionable. Gross-Matos out. Hufanga out. I see S. Gardner shutting down Deebo. Who is Mason's backup if CMC doesn't play? I never bet against my team but if I wasn't a 9er fan I would be taking the 4.5

    1. Jets D is going to be ferocious, we know Saleh can coach. A-Aron is going to be his most motivated against SF. He has never had such a good D in Green Bay. Plus, looks like Historically, he is good on MNF. (Rodgers has last lost a MNF game in 2012. )

With all this stacked against us, I think it is going to be a close game, and we will squeak out a win with a FG.

      Go Niners 24-21!

  9. Coach,
I also have 1st game jitters. But the 49ers are playing at home while the Jets traveled cross country. Riddick is out which gives the 49ers Oline a little advantage. Should be a good game. Rodgers still has an ax to grind against the 49ers. I just hope it doesn't happen tonight.

Gameday Week 2: 49ers vs Vikings

Despite Flores' intent to take away the run with 6 man fronts and blitzes, I'm expecting another run heavy game plan with Mason go...
