Niners football is back baby! I hope the team has Ricky Pearsall lead them out of the tunnel carrying the American flag. I'm expecting Shanahan to rush the ball 30 times and wear down that Jets defense. George Kittle should have a big game. I like the 49ers tonight, 31-17. Go Niners!
49ers inactives: *RB CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY* QB Joshua Dobbs (third QB) DE Yetur Gross-Matos LB Dee Winters S Talanoa Hufanga G Ben Bartch CB Darrell Luter Jr.
CM is inactive
ReplyDeleteA line is about to be crossed and it's called the Mason-Dixon line.
DeleteI hope he has a great game.
DeleteCould also possibly have a cameo appearance from Guerrendo if Mason needs a breather.
ReplyDeleteWho are the 49ers active RBs tonight?
ReplyDeleteMason/Guerendo/Taylor is the pecking order.
DeleteBoy did the 49ers prove me wrong tonight. Let CMC sit until there is no discomfort in his calf/Achilles. Mason is a stud.
ReplyDeleteImpressive win for a first game. I’m especially impressed with how well the OL played against a tough DL.
ReplyDeleteO line played very well.
ReplyDeleteExcellent win. You called the score Razor!
ReplyDeleteImpressive play from Fred Warner, Maliek Collins, Jordan Mason and Demo. Purdy looked good, even though WRs (except Jennings) looked rusty.
Have to call out Moody. Potential NFC Special teamer of the Week! Good confidence boosting game for the kid.
Below are Pro Football Focus' five highest-graded 49ers players on offense against the Jets.
ReplyDeleteBrock Purdy, QB, 89.6, 71 snaps
Trent Williams, LT, 81.6, 70 snaps
Dominick Puni, RG, 79.1, 72 snaps
Jauan Jennings, WR, 77.1, 35 snaps
Colton McKivitz, RT, 73.8, 72 snaps
Three of them belong to the O-line. I have to admit I was surprised by how well the O-line played. Puni is a beast...
Foerster is one hell of a coach.
DeletePuni looked like a polished veteran last night. Overall very good Oline play. TW will be better after a couple of games when he gets his sea legs back. Defense was popping as well. Moody was Money last night. Impressive Monday night win.
ReplyDeletePuni looked like more than a polished veteran - he's very quick and seems to be able to hit any landmark. Only one game, but he already looks like he could be the most talented OG the 49ers have had under Shanahan.
DeletePuni is the most talented OL the Shanahan's have ever drafted after Trent Williams.
DeleteTrent Williams on giving advice to D. Puni.
Delete"He's just so mature for his age," Williams said. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure we'll have time to discuss it. He's so ahead of the curve, though. He probably don't need much from me."
This weeks big challenge, short week, cross country flight and early start time.
ReplyDeleteMinor details. Niners should crush them.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most pleasing aspects of yesterday's win for me was seeing them be a legitimate threat running to the right.
ReplyDelete12 and 21 personnel put the Jets D in a blender?
DeleteThey ran 12 or 21 personnel on 80% of their snaps.
DeleteThought so
DeleteFun Fact: The last time 49ers beat Vikings in Minnesota... 12/13/1992.
ReplyDeleteThe amount of trash talk I get in Vikingsland... with Sam D at QB. Unreal!!
A player who had a phenomenal game but has hardly been mentioned, Mooney Ward. The Jets didn't throw a single pass to the right side of the field (Wards side) until Rogers left the game. Then on the first pass to his side he dropped an Int. He is the best shut down corner the 9ers have since Sanders or Jimmy Johnson.
ReplyDeleteThe @49ers are the only NFL team in the Super Bowl era to get a 200-yard passing game (Purdy), a 125-yard rushing game (Mason), a 50-yard receiving game (Jennings) and an interception (Flannigan-Fowles) from 4 players who were drafted 200th or later or weren't drafted at all.
ReplyDeleteAstounding imo.
DeleteCaught a post today where a 49ers fan called Puni the PUNIsher. Not bad.
ReplyDeleteTwice this summer in preseason games Puni pushed Mason across the goal line for TDs. I called those plays the Puni Push
ReplyDelete49ers ran to the right on 64% of their runs in Week 1, while in 2023, they ran to the right the least of any team (41%).
ReplyDeleteAnd, importantly, they had a lot of success doing it.
DeleteIt was nice to see and hopefully it continues.
DeleteThis makes the running game much more potent. It kind of reminds me of a baseball player that hit left and right handed. Or a basketball player who is ambidextrous, or a... lol. Also, it was nice to see Shanahan go to Juice on a long pass a couple plays after he was wide open for a potential TD. I'd love to see more passes to Juice going forward.
ReplyDeleteCMC limited at practice today. I'm getting a feeling we are going to be seeing a lot of Mason this year. The #3 RB has suddenly become very important.
ReplyDeleteI think CMC will play against the Rams next week.
DeleteAccording to SIS Data hub, Brock Purdy led all passers with 167 completed air-yards out of 273 intended air yards (72.3%).
ReplyDeleteOnly Trevor Lawrence (78.4% and 127/176) and Anthony Richardson (73.1% 155/310) finished with a higher air yards percentage.
Money Moody was named NFC ST player of the week. Not bad for a 3rd round draft pick. Wishnowsky is arguably the best punter in the NFC. Not bad for a 4th round draft pick.
ReplyDeleteWill S. Burford be the 49ers starter at LG next season? He only played 16 snaps Monday night but he looked better than he has in any of his previous games. A return to the left side may save his career and the 49ers a pile of cash next year.
ReplyDeleteThey've clearly been hoping Burford could step into a starting OG spot ever since they drafted him. I'd be very surprised if they re-sign Banks, so if Burford can take over that spot then that'll be huge.
DeleteNext years OL could look like this:
DeleteWilliams/Burford/Zakelj/Puni/McKivitz
Razor,
DeleteNot another year with McKivitz and how bout Nugent instead of Zakelj?
OC, they seem more than happy with McKivitz. If he performs like he did against the Jets I can see why.
DeleteRazor, in the past the team has made center a priority. Zakelj would need to prove he can handle it this season (i.e. take the job during this season) for them to run with him next year, imo.
I think they want Zakelj to do just that. We'll see if he can.
DeleteShould Miami head coach Mike McDaniel start looking over his shoulder? His team is looking completely unprepared tonight. Now, Tua has sustained a concussion. The arrows will be flying in Miami after the game tonight.
ReplyDeleteThe Niners have lost seven straight games in Minnesota.
ReplyDeleteCMC ruled out for the Vikes game.
ReplyDeleteKyle Posey wrote they’re considering IR as Shanahan said that yesterday was CMC’s “worst day” of practice. Also a Rams physician was quoted as speculating that the Achilles might be fragmenting.
DeleteDoes anyone know, can the 49ers place CMC on IR retroactively to the 1st game or does he have to miss a minimum of 4 games from the date they place him on IR?
ReplyDeleteNever seen it done so I'm assuming it isn't allowed.
DeleteI’ve been t reading about Achilles tendinitis. If conventional treatment isn’t working by 3 to 6 months the solution as you would imagine is surgery. His worst day of practice was on Thursday, so this isn’t sounding good imo. Draw your own conclusions.
DeleteCMC is now on IR which means he will miss at least 4 games.
ReplyDeleteThat's unfortunate. But at best it gives him ample time to recover enough to have a good stretch run.
ReplyDeleteI had really bad Achilles tendinitis for about 3 months. The Dr. offered me a choice, cast my lower leg for a month or surgery. I chose the cast. It worked on the tendinitis but after the cast came off I had another month of physical therapy before I was back to 100%. So we might not see CMC back on the field until just before Thanksgiving. We better all say a prayer for Mason's health because after him the rest of the RBs are a big question. Hopefully KS won't run Mason into the ground.
ReplyDeleteSame, though avoided the cast. But basically had to have a month of 0 activity to calm it down then about a month gradually building back up to my normal level of activity.
DeleteI suspect though that with daily treatment that 2 months can be shortened.
Yes, hopefully Kyle has learned that lesson. Obviously he needs to. But I do like Taylor as a backup. For those who don't know this, he has measurables similar to Mason and runs a lot like him. He also has good pass-catching hands. Green Bay used him effectively in spot situations. I'd like to see what he could alternating with JP. With our oline looking so promising and the addition of Saubert, that could turn out to be extremely cool.
DeleteBummer on CMC. Hope he gets better soon.
ReplyDeleteMan, the Madden curse is real!
