They pulled me back in. After months of speculation, sporadic negotiations and recent trade talks, the #49ers are pushing to get a deal done that keeps Brandon Aiyuk in San Francisco for the long haul, per @TomPelissero

The stench of the last game is still in my nostrils. Will the 49ers clear the air? Not if they don't start making tackles. Not if they...

I am at a point now that I am far more concerned with the 49ers getting TW signed than BA. The 9ers can't win without TW while I believe they can win without BA. I'm worried that TWs signing may some how be contingent on settling with BA.

DeleteIf memory serves, you mentioned this deal in a past post?
* I've often wondered why NFL players haven't used the deferred payment contract used by NY Mets Bobby Bonilla.
* For those unfamiliar with Bobby Bonilla. He played professionally from 1986 to 2001, including two stints with the NY Mets...A two-time All-Star with the club, he left before the 2000 season, with the team still owing him millions of dollars.
* The team struck a deal to defer the millions of dollars they owed Bonilla, with payments starting in 2011, and, to his benefit, continuing through 2035. The payments of just under $1.2 million happen on July 1 every year.
* The deal worked out spectacularly for Bonilla — he was due about $6 million in 2000, but with interest, by the time the deal ends, he will end up having collected nearly $30 million.
I am thinking that these football players are trying to get a nice chunk of the pie realizing that next year funds will be directed at Purdy and won't be much left for others. Can't blame them but...
ReplyDeleteCoach I agree the Niners can win without BA, losing TW would be devasting.
Aiyuk is important to the passing game. TW is important to the passing, running, protecting and dominating the opposition game. TW is irreplaceable.
DeleteBrandon Aiyuk on report 49ers are pushing for new deal:
Delete* The report did not suggest that a deal was imminent, but rather that "things are moving. * "Aiyuk responded to the report in a reply to a post on Instagram, writing: "Brad, Niners be in the media every day lol, it's two options out there pick one and stop dropping reports simple."
* That DOES NOT suggest that Aiyuk agrees that a "new deal"
is getting done! Or if there is, he's not very interested in it?
I'm not worried about Williams' deal getting done. I think they don't mind him missing camp and part of the reason why they have to be so fiscally stringent with Aiyuk's deal.
ReplyDeleteRazor,
ReplyDeleteHas there been any news on rookie Jarrett Kingston of late? Is he still nursing his leg injury from college?
AES,
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have heard from various camp reports Kingston is practicing. His performance reportedly has been underwhelming. He seems to need a year in a NFL weight room. Sounds like PS to me.
Thanks Coach. Maybe we get a chance to see him play tonight.
ReplyDeleteInterested in watching QB Tanner Mordecai play tonight.
