Gameday Week 4: Cardinals vs. 49ers

Good afternoon, everyone and welcome to the live blog for a big divisional matchup. The Cardinals come into this game with nothing to lose, and a physical running game with Conners, and a quarterback that isn't afraid to run. The 49ers need to stop Conners and not allow him to get north and south, and force Dobbs to make plays with his arm and legs. Defensive line will need to be disciplined and not rush past the quarterback. Their wide receivers are good too, Wilson and the speedy Moore. I don't think the 49ers look past this team and handle their business, 31-17 and head into next week 4-0 against the Cowboys. Go Niners!

#49ers inactives * QB Brandon Allen (3rd QB) * WR Jauan Jennings (shin) * RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) * OL Nick Zakelj * DL Kalia Davis * LB Jalen Graham * CB Anthony Brown

  1. Start every game this way, please thank you.

  2. Ambry might be training the house down, but he just keeps giving plays up in games.

  3. 49ers defense really looks pretty average as soon as you negate the DL.

  4. Offense was really humming today. Bar the kneel down to end the half, 5 TDs on 6 drives. Brilliant.

  5. QUESTION
Did CMC walk on water today? It's about the only thing he didn't do today.....Or maybe he did and I just missed it?
    * It was nice to see BP connect on 3 long passes....The missing piece to the 9er offense!

  6. I didn't get to watch the game...had a stupid party thing/obligation that I had to go to.

Caught the replay....masterful from Offense. Purdy aging like fine wine, seems to get better every week. There will inevitably be a bad game, but I hope it comes vs Dallas/Philly/Baltimore as opposed to the playoffs.

D will be generational after the bye week. I have a feeling Wilks is trying out different things to get comfortable with what he has.

Dominant as our wins have been, I still feel we have another gear to reach.

The first thing Wilks needs to get "comfortable" with is, leaving Ambry Thomas on the bench!
After Wilks replaced Isaiah Oliver with Ambry Thomas, Thomas allowed a 33 yard completion to Arizona's Michael Thomas on a deep throw down the left sideline. On the next play he was too shallow, and Michael Thomas caught a 16 yard touchdown!
NOTE: Isaiah Oliver played the rest of the game at NB

    1. True GEEP.

But if Wilks kept playing only the "starters", then the depth (players like Ambry Thomas) will not develop. The best time to play Ambry is in a blowout game.

Heck I see Brown and Odum getting snaps at safety too apart from starters.

We are tied 3rd in points allowed after 4 games. That's good for now. So let Wilks do the rotation. I will criticize at the end of the season. :)

"The best time to play Ambry is in a blowout game." I agree, but not when they outcome of the game is still undecided.

  9. QUESTION: Does anyone know when Womack is due to come off IR?

    * The last news was when KS said, “sometime this year.” “the injury doesn’t require surgery, so Womack could potentially be back within six to eight weeks.”
    * I believe Womack suffered the MCL injury on Sept 14th or 15th? * If accurate, Woman should return after the 9er Week 9 bye?

    1. Luter's back next week I think. Maybe Beal and Gray too. Womack maybe November?

    Thanks for the update....
I'm encouraged after seeing BP complete 3 long passes against Arizona. If BP can continue connecting long with his receivers (including Gray) that could be the missing piece that opens up the
field for the 9er receiver and the offense.

  11. Just watched the last two Niner games and came away with the feeling, that they their best game has yet to be played.

  12. Week five 9er VS Dallas Key matchups:
    1) Who sacks the opposing QB, 9er D or Dallas D?
    2) Which front 7 can shut down the other teams RB(s)? I look for
the 9er and CMC to control the clock.
    3) Can 2nd year Dallas LCB DaRon Bland replace Trevon Diggs? Can Bland cover Aiyuk and Deebo? IMO, NO! I see KS calling plays that isolate him against both and result in Aiyuk and Deebo having big games.
    4) Can 33 YO Dallas CB Stephon Gilmore cover Aiyuk and Deebo?
Again, NO, especially on cross routes! I also look for BP to go deep when Gilmore matches up with Aiyuk or Deebo.
    5) Can the 9er DB's control Dallas WR CeeDee Lamb, keep him under 100 yards receiving and no more than one TD?

  13. Randy Gregory is a 49er! We give up a 6th round pick next year and get a 7th round pick in return. Broncos pay majority of Gregory's pay for this year and we only pay the vet min.

Awesome trade! Hope he works out and doesn't dilute our culture.

    1. OMG! What an amazing, super low risk trade! If he can get back to even close to his best, he's going to eat alongside Bosa, Armstead and Hargrave.

And he costs the 49ers next to nothing.

At first I was wondering why the Broncos would even consider this trade, but I guess if the alternative was to just cut him it makes sense for them too.

    2. Armstead likes him. Grateful for Hyder's services and wish him well.
