Gamenight Week 5: Cowboys vs. 49ers

Good evening and welcome to the 49ers live blog. Tonight will be the 49ers biggest test this year. Dallas comes into town with a bad taste in their mouths after last years playoff loss. This game looms large in their minds. The Cowboys defense is too fast for outside zone runs and so expect a lot of power gap/inside zone. The key to this game will be which team can cash in TD's for redzones. My guess is Shanny will have a run heavy gameplan. I don't think this game will be as close as last year. 34-20 49ers. Go Niners!

  1. I think they're going to need to move the launch point for Purdy.

    1. I think they might move on from Prescott after this season.

Dallas should have moved on from Prescott after losing to the 9ers last year, but JJ's ego wouldn't let him.
IMO, Dallas should have also moved on from McCarty, but again JJ's ego wouldn't let him admit he was wrong.
IMO, as long as JJ refuses to relinquish the reins to his son Stephan Jones, and stop making players and salary decisions, Dallas will remain an also ran team.

  5. In the season opener I criticized the niners game plan for not helping out with TJ Watt. Tonight I thought the game plan was excellent for neutralizing Micah Parsons.

  7. Dominant performance yesterday! I had tears of joy watching the dismantling of the cowboys. Take one game at a time and bring home No 6!

In other news, very sorry for E-man!

  8. If nothing else, the game against Dallas should end the drivel that:
    * BP a system QB that manages KS game plan!
    * The 9er O-Line is sub standard against the top NFL defenses. They can't pass block, keep BP upright and open holes for the RB's.

Good news! Any word on if Banks will be out? and if he is, how long?

  10. IMO, Micah Parsons would be well served to stop whining like a loser and HOPE he and the cowgirls get another chance to play the 9ers again this year……
Like Deebo said…”it’s already personal and could get worse!” The Big dogs mark their territory and little dogs get used to smelling it! The only question left to be answered is, are the cowgirls good enough to make it to the playoffs?

Teams Dallas will have to beat, if they hope to get there:
    * Eagles at Philadelphia: Nov 5th
    * Washington at Dallas Nov 23rd
    * Seattle at Dallas Nov 30th
    * Eagles at Dallas Dec 10th
    * Buffalo at Buffalo Dec 17th
    * Miami at Miami Dec 24th
    * Detroit at Dallas Dec 30th
    * Washington at Washington Jan 7th
    * If Dallas loses their next two games to the Chargers at LA on Sun Oct 16 and the Rams at LA on Oct 29th, those games become MUST WIN games if Dallas expects to play in the playoffs….
    * After getting punched in the mouth by the 9ers, lets see how well Dallas responds in the next 2 games.

  12. Brock Purdy is beginning to manufacture his own success. That should terrify opposing defenses.

On Sunday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys, Brock Purdy was — for the first time — the player who has been described since he won the San Francisco 49ers‘ starting quarterback job: a spectacular passer able to deliver big-time throws one after another without making mistakes.

When you pair that with a 49ers offense that’s already rolling with the best scheme in the league, as well as with an unrivaled array of playmaking weaponry, you get a unit that can put more points on the Dallas defense in one game than four previous opponents did combined.

The Brock Purdy dynamic was not made for the modern world that lacks nuance. As soon as he broke out in 2022, lines were drawn and you had to decide whether he was the next Tom Brady or a complete construct of Kyle Shanahan — the next Nick Mullens.

The truth always lay somewhere in between. Purdy’s performances were never quite as good as the overall numbers, but his biggest strengths tended to kick in exactly when Shanahan’s plays ran out of answers, so the combination was always more potent than the sum of the parts.

Everything may have changed against the Cowboys, though. Purdy was dealing. He made three big-time throws against Dallas, which matched his season total in five starts and two more relief outings as a rookie. In all games put together heading into Sunday Night Football, Purdy had only nine big-time throws, or a rate of 2.5%. His rate was four times that in this game, with an average depth of target 9.0 yards downfield.

  13. BEST UNDER PRESSURE: BROCK PURDY, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
The Cowboys pass rush is one of the most formidable units in the league, but Purdy seemed unfazed behind center in Week 5, completing four of his seven attempts for 88 yards and two touchdowns when the Dallas pass rush moved him off his spot.

Purdy was the only quarterback in the league to earn a 90.0-plus pressured passing grade in Week 5, and he averaged a league-best 12.6 yards per pass attempt. He was charted as accurate on every single one of his pressured pass attempts, too.

  14. This morning I learned that Jack Hammer, whose work as a freelance blogger covering the San Francisco ‘49ers has appeared in The Press Democrat since July 2021, had pleaded no contest to a felony child-sex charge 18 years ago and was sentenced to 60 days of work release.

We have terminated his services effective immediately.

I knew there was something off about the guy.
