Game Night Week 3: Giants vs. 49ers

Good evening everyone and welcome to the live blog for Thursday Night's matchup. The Giants come into Levi's missing several starters. RB, Barkley, LT, Thomas, LG, Bredeson and OLB, Ojulari. The 49ers are healthy for the most part except for Aiyuk who is questionable with a shoulder/chest injury. This should be an easy game for the 49ers but as we've seen time and again, the NFL can humble you real quick. For the 49ers the gameplan should be fairly straightforward. Stop the run, don't turn the ball over, get out to an early lead and have some fun. This should be a statement game with no need for starters to be on the field by the 4th quarter. 45-10 Go Niners!

*Update: Aiyuk is ruled out. WR Chris Conley & CB Shemar Jean-Charles were elevated from P-squad. SF also promoted CB Tre Swilling to the 53-man roster and released newly signed CB Anthony Brown.

#49ers inactives WR Brandon Aiyuk CB Ambry Thomas QB Brandon Allen (third QB) OL Nick Zakelj LB Jalen Graham DL Kalia Davis RB Ty Davis-Price

  1. NYG players the 9ers need to neutralize to win the game:

    * With RB Saquon Barkley out with an ankle injury, Giants QB Daniel Jones will have to carry the Giants offense. That could be a problem with the Giants LT Andrew Thomas out with a hamstring and LG Ben Bredeson (concussion)
NOTE: The Giants O-line are tied for the NFL’s second-most pressures allowed (35) heading into Week 3.
    * The 9ers front 7 must contain Jones and force him to beat them with his arm, not his legs.
    * The 9ers D need to shut down TE Darren Waller, WR Isaiah Hodgins and rookie WR Jalin Hyatt, who had 89 receiving yards on just 2 receptions last week.

    9ers 31 NYG 13

  2. The most consistent weakness of the defense for several years now has been running QBs. Daniel Jones will probably do some running tonight. Although Jones isn't an elite rushing QB, it will be interesting to see how Wilkes defense responds if Jones is converting 3rds downs with his legs.

  3. Hope SF's offense cleans up some of its miscues in the second half. Living overseas this Amazon Prime broadcast is killing me... even having a us account I cant watch the game regularly. Hello dodgy sites and closing endless popups. :D

  4. Great start to the season. Another 30 point game by the offense, despite missing some opportunities.

Things that stood out to me week 3 VS NY Giants:
    * Purdy missed Aiyuk, especially early in the game. But with Aiyuk out, it gave Bell a chance to contribute.
I expect to see Bell get more playing time.
    * With Aiyuk out, Deebo tallied a career-high 12 recepts. for 129 yds. and 1 TD.
    * Purdy was blitzed on 84.6% of his drop backs. NY brought pressure on 33 of Purdy’s 39 drop backs, which was the highest rate since Next Gen Stats began tracking.
    * The 49ers D held Jones to just 5 rushing yards on 2 attempts. They used sticky coverage to take away his receivers down the field. Jones finished with just 129 yards on 18 of 27 passing.

    1. I'm sure he did miss Aiyuk, but I think the early game misfires were more due to pressure from the D. Once Purdy got used to being blitzed and speeding his process up it was all over for the Giants. Another very impressive display by Purdy.

  7. 49ers defense this season:

    💪 79.7% pass-rush win rate

No other NFL team is better than 66.7% 😳

As good as the 9er defense has been thru the first three games, their big test will be against Dallas on Oct 8th.

  9. DAMN……Ya gotta love it…..
The mighty cowgirls are trailing the Cardinals 21 to 13. UNFORTUNATELY, there is still 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter….
.Come on Arizona, lets score some more points!

  10. FINAL SCORE:
    Dallas 16 VS Arizona 28
From contender to pretender…….The cowgirls got bucked off their stick horse…….LMAO

    NOTICE TO THE 9ERS:
Take the Arizona Cardinals seriously, they're better than the so
called experts thought! Do NOT get caught looking ahead to the
Dallas game and get caught in a trap game.

  11. NFL 2023 week 3 Monday night football games:
    1) Rams VS Bengals at Cincinnati: The Rams should win, but if they do lose to the winless bengals at Cincinnati, they will join Arizona as the NFC West cellar dwellers with 1W VS 2L.

    2) THE GAME TO WATCH
The Eagles VS TB @ TB: Both teams lead their divisions with 2W – 0L records.
If the Eagles win they will be 3W – 0L! After Dallas lost to Arizona, the Eagles will be the team the 9ers must beat to get to the SB……GO TB, BEAT THE EAGLES!

  12. Cardinals are not as bad as I thought. But I'm sure we won't take them lightly (especially after their win against Dallas).

    Lesser known fact:
    - Wilks has a lawsuit against the Cardinals Mgmt. Apparently Wilks was asked to use burner phones to communicate with Cardinals Mgmt....weird!

Anyway, It's a long season, but we have to go 4-0 up and not overlook the Cardinals.

    1. True.

#Cardinals are tied for 1st in NFL in yards BEFORE contact per rush at 3.68/attempt.

Also stop Rondale Moore. He is an important cog in that offense.

  13. HOW THE 9ERS BEAT ARIZONA:
#1) The 9er D needs to keep Arizona RB James Connor under 75 yards rushing. Arizona enters the game against the 9er ranked 6th in rushing yards and 2nd in yards per rush.
#2) Control Arizona QB Joshua Dobbs. Keep him from picking up 1st downs with his legs. Force him to stay in the pocket and beat the 9er D with his arm, not his legs.
#3) Control Arizona WR Michael Wilson. He’s averaging 17.1 yards per target.
#4) Take Arizona seriously and don’t get caught looking ahead to the Dallas game.
#5) Pick up first downs by running the ball. Control the clock and keep Arizona Offense off the field
