Wild Card Round: Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers limped into the season and have finished on a 10 game winning run. Welcome everyone to the first round of the 2023 NFL playoffs, where the 49ers will face off against their old nemesis, Pete Carroll and his Seattle Seahawks. Weather was scheduled to be an issue for both teams, but the eastern winds have blown the storm past quicker than anticipated. Shanny should have the full game plan available. Go Niners!

49ers Inactives:

QB Jimmy Garoppolo CB Ambry Thomas OL Nick Zakelj TE Ross Dwelley RB Ty Davis-Price RB Tevin Coleman DE Drake Jackson

  1. Currently cloudy with no wind or rain. Rain forecast seem to be shifting a bit, chances now <50% till about halftime, and maybe through all game (depending on the forecast service) and peaking at 80% later in the evening.
Niners can hopefully take a 2 score lead going into half time and run the ball effectively in the second half.

  2. Interesting that Drake Jackson continues to be inactive. Must be expecting Seahawks to keep it on the ground.

    1. That would make sense.

BTW, did you folks see the 5-man D-line front against the Raiders featuring Ebukam and Bosa as tackles and the tackles as DE in wide 9 with Fred walking over to over the center! 😆 Bosa looped around on a TT stunt and led to that crazy pop-out ball INT.

    2. McGill has been playing well too. Givens' return gives them a nice rotation for Kinlaw. Willis probably makes Jackson redundant against the Seahawks.

  3. Field looking good in NBC Bay Area pre-game show.
Apparently 15-20 mph win gusts early in the game.

  4. Shanahan called a great drive there. Purdy was off all drive though. Hopefully just needed to get that one drive out of his system to calm himself down.

  5. Purdy needs to settle down.

  6. Defense is buttoned up! Two 3-and-outs. Exactly what you want in a playoff game. Sticky coverage from Lenoir on Metcalf that play too.

Offense needs to be on point this drive.

  7. Purdy's ability to process quickly and second reactions really are good.

  8. Excellent play by Purdy.

  9. Nice run by CMC and nice play by Purdy for the score.

    1. Obviously the blocking made that run for CMC, but the subtle move he put on the pursuing DB that made him dive at thin air is what made it a 60 yard run rather than 20 yard run. His awareness of angles is amazing.

  10. Last game Ward shadowed Metcalf all game. Wonder why Lenoir is on him?

    1. I was going to say it looks like this game they are just sticking to sides, but Lenoir was on the other side that last play. Not sure.

  11. The run defense has been uncharacteristically bad so far today.

  12. Williams gave up that sack by Irvin. Rare happening.

Kyle dialed up a couple of killer explosive plays that should have been TDs instead of field goals. Purdy's learning on the job and having some understandable jitters. He'll settle down.

  13. Points on all 3 drives so far, but settling for FGs on 2 of them means they are only 6 ahead despite looking well on top most of the game so far. Need to convert those drives into 7.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ooof. And just like that, despite dominating so far they are behind. Gotta score TDs, not settle for FGs.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Niners settle down and play football.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well, that's points on 4 of 5 drives, but still just the 1 TD. Letting Seattle stay in the game.

    1. Way to go, dumbass. Give the Seahawks the lead before half time.

    2. Gonna mess around and lose if they don't play smarter.

    3. Yep. Struggled against the run and Brock has been shaky. Need to come out and make the Seahawks one dimensional and Purdy needs to play efficient football.

      Delete
  18. That is the dumbest play I have seen from veteran like Ward! He did not even try to avoid him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Brock's gonna need to have a better 2nd half.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep but I think the Def needs to play like the #1 D too.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, the play of the D is the most disappointing for me that half.

Good news is Ryans has done a good job this year making second half adjustments.

  20. We cannot run and we cannot stop their run. You dont win many games like that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. What I was worried about is actually playing out. More concerning is so many of Purdy's throws could have been picked off. We are lucky to be down just 1.

I hope we make good defensive adjustments. Still a half to play, game not over by any means! Treat the 2nd half like a new game.

  22. Needed that. Need to keep getting 7s.

    1. Pulling on Deebo's leg just might be what is needed to energize the team.

      Delete
    2. Yes! Offense has scored every possession except for one. The D needs to start playing better.

      Delete
    3. Yes...good job from offense. Dirty play from 'Hawks.

Deebo looks pissed off. I hope the team channels his anger.

      Delete
  23. Officials not calling personal fouls against Seattle that were obvious : the one on Brock out of bounds and twisting Deebo's ankle. This is the hallmark of the Sqawks - cheap shots designed to inflict injury.

    1. What else do we ecpect from Pete's team! JHs team did not put up with thay bs!

  24. Defense is playing terrible.

  25. Defense is just not playing good football.

    1. Run defense has picked up, but can't stop a 3rd down to save themselves.

  26. D line needs to get sufficient pressure on third downs.

    1. Omenihu! Nearly had the sack earlier, went one better this time with the strip sack!

  28. And just like that the defense makes a play to shut me up. I like it!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wow, ball control the name of the game that half. Pretty much only got one drive each. The takeaway becomes huge given that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That's the way! Great escapability and composure to find the open guy.

Finally get the two TD lead. Brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Great play. Purdy has sneaky escapability.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Purdy is growing up right in front of our eyes 😊

    ReplyDelete
  33. Now is the time to get Mitchell rolling.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Run the ball, take your time, no mistakes, and watch out for trick plays.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Or, alternatively, just get the ball to Deebo.

    1. Hahaha -- no no no -- yes yes YES!! Deebo to da house 🤣

  36. I was critical of Aiyuk being in KS' doghouse, but his improvement in all phases of the game has been great.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The 49ers have now scored on 7 of 8 drives today, with 4 TDs and 3 FGs. As soon as they started converting drives to TDs they blew the Seahawks away.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Deebo, man :) Great block from Aiyuk!

I don't know what Shanahan said at half-time, but it's sure working!!! Gotta give props to the coach.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Woot! Game over! Take that Seahags.

    1. Who would have thought Lenoir would be the better of the two CBs today?

  40. F*** YEAH! From being up at least just 3 pts a nd then the turn over!

  41. Don't ease up. Blow them out, big time!

    2. I think there is plenty of fear there already!

  43. I know ppl say we have the best D but i think we have the best Offense baring injuries!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Awwwww man! Aiyuk, that should have been caught! But my gosh... that was Montana-esque.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I caught a glimpse of Purdy with both hands up as Deebo ran in the TD. Reminded me of Joe...

      Delete
    2. You're right, it was actually more Wilson-esque. Just great ability to extend the play. Should have been a highlight reel.

      Delete
  45. I remember back when the 49ers were a terrible 2nd half team - not this year.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Common Aiyuk! Your QB is willing to get that hit for you! That would have been all over highlights for Purdy!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Is this CMac's first playoff victory?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Think so. This is the second one he's playing, IIRC.

  48. 505 total yards and I think they didn't bring their A game.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Kyle's best offensive personnel since 2016...

    ReplyDelete
  50. The kid continues to ball out and improve, Heck, he even improved at QB sneaks between last game and this one.

What a 2nd half....Kudos to the entire team!
