Deebo Expected To Show

Source: #49ers star WR Deebo Samuel is expected to attend mini camp starting today.

It's never a wise decision when in the process of convincing your employer you need a raise not to show up for work. Baby steps in the right direction after his request for a trade.

  1. If Deebo shows up for the 9er mini camp, it should eliminate one of several team distractions and hopefully, put to rest the question of weather he'll hold out for the 2022 season, or not!

    1. If I'm Deebo, holding out for the year was never an option to be entertained.

True! But it made for good click bait!

  2. All that back and forth drama for nothing.

Now a lot is being made about Jimmy being excused from camp. Lets use the Deebo situation as an example and not overreact any way to that.

    2. Exactly. And thanks to them they basically capped the market.

    3. For the Titans, it seemed to me to be more of a business decision like Niners made with Buckner than the outcome of a stand-off gone sour.

  3. A lot of fans enamored by Jason Poe's athletic ability, and rightfully so but Jake Brendel's 3-Cone drill and 20 yard Shuttle were better.

    1. I hope that Brendel proves his critics wrong, but this evaluation by Lance Zierlein is what concerns me.....
      Overview
"Leadership, durability and an ability to battle in tight quarters are all admirable qualities for Brendel, but his lack of athleticism and consistency in space will be challenges for him when NFL teams pound the tape. Brendel doesn’t have the length or body type to play any position other than center so his journey to the NFL might be a challenge."
Brendel has also had a problem sticking with any of the several teams he's played for....

      * Brendel was signed as an UDFA by the Cowboys after the 2016 NFL Draft on May 6. On September 3, 2016, he was released by the Cowboys. The next day, he was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad. He was released from the practice squad with an injury settlement on September 29

      * On Oct. 11, 2016, Brendel was signed to the Miami Dolphins' practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on Nov. 19. He appeared in one game.
In 2017, he appeared in all 16 games as a backup center.
On September 2, 2018, Brendel was placed on injured reserve with a calf injury. He was activated off injured reserve Nov. 2 He played in four games, starting three at left guard and center due to injuries. He was placed back on injured reserve with a calf injury on December 12, 2018.

      * On April 18, 2019, Brendel signed with the Broncos. He was released on August 31.

      * On November 27, 2019, Brendel was signed by the Ravens and released three days later on November 30.

      * On Feb. 7, 2020, Brendel was signed by the 49ers. On Aug. 6, Brendel announced he would opt out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Aug. 31, 2021, Brendel was waived during final roster cuts.
      On March 9, 2022, Brendel re-signed with the 49ers.
And now the 9ers are projecting him to be the starting center for the 2022 season?
As I said, I wish him good luck. But I HAVE MY DOUBT... TBD!

  4. The Rams have had really bad luck with their rookie rb's. Kyren Williams broke his foot. Akers before him got the achilles injury.

    1. I actually think that the Rams will be better than last year. Does it mean that they are a shoo-in to win the Superbowl? No. The playoffs are a totally different animal, but the rams should be a very strong repeat contender because they will have a healthy Cam Akers. The rams running game got a big boost when Akers returned to the lineup leading up to the playoffs. Akers (if he healthy) has the potential to be a difference maker and become a major star I'm the league.
We will require speed on our defense the keep Akers from rampant.

  7. Trent Williams on Banks today:
“He’s transformed himself in a few months and to me that’s indicative of a lot... Banks, his athleticism has always jumped off the board to be the size of the man that he is, but now shedding 20 pounds, he definitely looks light on his feet, his footwork looks ten times better, his balance, his upper-body lean. Everything is in place now to take that big jump from Year 1 to Year 2.”

  8. According to Grant Drake Jackson didn’t get a single win against backup linemen in one on one drills. It’s early but thats not good considering D linemen have a huge advantage in no pads and also in one on ones.
Like I said when drafted, I get the pick I’m just not a fan of the player. I really hope their evaluation skills are better than mine.

    1. Correction, this was not in one on one drills… but I would still like to see him get at least one win against a practice squad guy.

    2. Kocurek was a fan and that's good enough for me. For now.

    3. When will people stop listening to Grant? He's a muckraker, best to stay out of it.

    4. Shoup, Bosa just gave a glowing endorsement of Jackson, and was surprised he lasted as long as he did in the draft.

    5. Larry Kruger was reporting the same observation.
Like I said its very early yet but I had concerns about him coming out. So its more frightening to me.

From what I saw He had good bend but I never saw much burst or hand fighting ability. TBH I preferred Sanders, Bonitto and Malone as pure pass rushers... though admittedly I would have drafted Dylan Parham at 61.

      Delete
    6. Kruger ain't much better than Grant. He's obviously not a troll, but he's has way too inflated an ego and came off as a know it all. Being a failed NFL/CFL scout is not the resume builder the fans want to think it is.

I put a lot more weight in what the players feel than what dudes on the sideline are saying.

  10. Cooper Kupp contract brings more clarity to Deebo Samuel, 49ers negotiations

    * Kupp signed a five-year, $110 million extension, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday, citing sources. That annual average of $22 million appears to bring further clarity to the kind of deal 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is likely to receive when (if?) he signs an extension.
    * At the top of the list are Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams, who signed new contracts with the Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively, after blockbuster trades.
Hill’s contract is widely reported as averaging $30 million a season. However, that figure includes an inflated figure of $45 million in salary and bonus in the final year of his contract. Functionally, Hill’s contract averages $23.85 million over four seasons.
Adams’ contract amounts to $22.5 million per season after disregarding his scheduled pay of $70 million over the final two years of his contract.
    * A.J. Brown was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles and signed a deal that is scheduled to pay him $20.8 million over five seasons. And Buffalo’s Stefon Diggs is on the books to earn an average of $20.7 million over six years.

While the 49ers and Samuel’s representation will haggle over the structure of the contract and the amount of guarantees, the realistic expectation is that Samuel’s true contract numbers will land in the neighborhood of $22 million per year.

      $500K = Chump change!
9ER OBJECTIVE: Get Deebo's signature on that multi year contract. Get it done JL!

      Delete
    3. If Kupp is just 22M a year, I see Deebo at 20M max.

      Delete
    4. Yea, I put his value at no more than $21.5 mill but I agree with Geep. Just get his John Hancock on the dotted line.

      Delete
    5. Kupp signed a 3 yr, $80M in new money extension. That's a little under $27M per annum.

But he had 2 years remaining on his contract so including both new and existing years the average per year is around $22M.

It's a deal very similar to what the other WRs are getting this offseason. Speaking only in new money/ years makes it sound like an astronomical amount, but factoring in existing year(s)/ money the deal is far more palatable.

Same will happen with Deebo. First reports will sound huge as the agent will leak the numbers initially and only mention the new years/ money. But there will really be an extra year to spread the money across as he is still under contract for this season.

    3. No way in hell anyone is going to convince me Shanny was "talked" into taking Lance over Jones. I think Arthur Smith would have taken Lance since he needed a qb and he runs a similar system to Shanny. Mac Jones would not have been an upgrade from a physical standpoint over Jimmy G but he may have been an upgrade from a mental standpoint. Lance covers both bases.

    2. This "anonymous" poster thinks the 49ers settled on Lance because of his much hogher ceiling, and the big arm is a big part of that, along with Lance's outstanding athleticism, and mature mental makeup. If Lance can clean up his accuracy, he has everything you look for in a star quality "franchise QB, and I for one can't wait. Put me in the category of incredibly, extremely, almost shockingly disappointed Niners' Faithful if they had drafted Mac Jones at after giving up a fortune to move up to the 3rd pick overall!

  13. Does anyone know the details of Jaquiski Tarrt's 1-year deal with the Eagles? If it's as team friendly as I've heard, I really don't understand why the Niners didn't bring him back on a similar deal. That's a headscratcher for me!

    1. Did the 49ers really decide 1 botched INT overrode all of the good things that Tartt did for their defense over the years, so much so, that the Niners didn't even want him at an extremely team-friendly price? Kind of silly, IMO!
