11-6 is my prediction. I think Lance is good for one more win than Jimmy G.
I have them getting to 10-7, same as last year. I agree with all of your projections, except we will probably split with the Cardinals. Gotta love the Bye at Week 9 and mini bye before Christmas. Well positioned for playoffs. Go Niners!
ReplyDeleteBest bye in years!
DeleteEasy strength of schedule to start the season, a bye at the mid-season mark, and a mini-bye during Christmas week? Couldn't ask for much better than that for team that just made the conference championship game!
DeleteIt would be wrong if I said anything other than 17-0.
ReplyDeleteNo sense in changing now. We all have our superstitions.
Delete-We get Tampa on a short week coming cross country after playing their divisional rival (nola). That should help.
ReplyDelete-I would have preferred getting LAR a bit later in the season after Trey gets more established but its not a huge deal.
-At CAR and ATL looks like a road stayover trip for SF.
For all the good teams SF has to play this looks like a pretty decent schedule. I'll still predict 10 wins but 11 looks like it is solidly in play.
If Lance's mentality is in sync with full command of the offense it should be must see tv.
Delete* If Mack does not retire, I see the 9ers season as 10W - 7L
ReplyDelete* If Mack retires, my sleeper is Dohnovan West taking over as the starting Center. I had him as a late round 5 - early round 6 draft pick.
* My highlight for the season...Sweeping Seattle.
* Week 7, 8, 10 and 11 will be critical for the 9ers making playoffs and avoiding four losses.
That's where I believe Lance should have the edge in the opener versus Fields. Full command of the offense with a greater understanding of where to go with the football.
ReplyDeleteKIDS ALREADY GOT IT FIGURED OUT.....LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteDavid Lombardi asked WR Danny Gray if the coaches talked about blocking at the receiver position here!
“Yes sir, blocking is a big part of the game. No block, no rock.” —Danny Gray
Yea, thought it was a great quote by the rookie. He must have been gold in the interview process.

Watching from the sideline at 49ers’ rookie minicamp: Vic Fangio. (He says he’s just observing).
When Ryans becomes a head coach in 2023, The Godfather will bring stability to the defensive coordinator position. It will no longer be a breeding ground for head coaches.
Sounds like Jack was impressed with the two rookie OL. If even just ine of those guys is good that will be huge. If both... OL is set.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much input Foerster had in selecting some of these offensive linemen.
DeleteGray
ReplyDeleteHe was the best player on the field, the star of the practice. He got five targets and caught four of them, plus one catch was a 50-yard touchdown. On that play, he ran a deep post route and beat rookie sixth-round pick Tariq Castro-Fields (more on him below). Gray also made an acrobatic 20-yard catch along the left sideline. He even made a catch over the middle, although he caught the ball with his chest. He also dropped a short pass after running a quick slant.
Cohn

DeleteI always look forward to Cohn's camp reports, and that's about it.
DeleteChon's reports... Everyone sucks. I remember when he declared both Buckner and Armstead to be busts midway through Buckner's rookie season.
DeleteHe claimed Bosa would be an 8 sack a year guy and they should have drafted Quinnen Williams
DeleteAES - hey bud, I just had the same problem you had, for some reason I was signed out of Google account. After I sign back in I had to go to Comment as: and click on Google.
ReplyDeleteUC,
ReplyDeleteNice to hear from you brother. I was surprised that I was able to at least sign in as anonymous. I'll just try using A2 (short for anonymous 2) going forward.
Thanks for the info.
Can't wait for TC.
I have a feeling this is going to be the best draft in a good many years. I love what I am hearing about Gray, speed without fear, and Price, he likes to deliver the blow. If Jackson is for real, the Niners D will be suffocating.
DeleteIt would be kind of funny yet somehow fitting if their best draft came when they were without a 1st round pick and had 6 day 3 picks.
DeleteFrank Gore...
ReplyDeletehttps://www.nfl.com/news/frank-gore-wins-pro-boxing-debut-with-highlig
I can't wait to have him in our front office strengthening our scouting ability. It wouldn't surprise me to see him work his way to GM one day.
DeleteI agree, attitude is everything and Frank has lots of it. A great example for the young.
DeleteNot at all surprised that the old war horse is taking up Boxing. Gore is a fierce competitor and real warrior. Just having back with the Faithful makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteI don't see how this team is going to lose to teams who didn't even make the playoffs last year. This team will actually be improved over the team that lost the NFC Championship with guys like McG back, additions (and depth/health) at corner, an actual edge guy to compliment Bosa.
ReplyDeleteWhat did the team lose? They lost Tomlinson but his success seems to have come from playing next to Staley and Williams. Will Banks be able to step in and play at his level, probably not, but I don't think the drop off will be the drastic and Banks might fit Shanys scheme for this season better. They lost DJ, but lets not forget that Kinlaw was the starter and DJ was a substitution guy, so you're basically replacing DJ with Kinlaw, which should be an improvement if he stays healthy. And lastly Kwuan, but they signed Ward so now theres a bit of a bottleneck at CB, so a guy like Mosely could transition to Nickle DB and again, is that a big dropoff? Look at the DBs if all are healthy Ward, Mosely, Thomas, Verrett, Lenoir, D Johnson, with draftees Womack and Castro-Fields, and also Knight as a UDFA (unlikely to play).
Thats all they lost thats worth mention.
They basically had guys already in position to take over for a valued FA lost (Banks, Kinlaw, Mosley/Thomas) and then they had a legit draft that hit on some very big needs and depth.
This team, whether it be Lance or Jimmy at QB, will be better than last seasons so losing to SD at home to make 3 straight loses, no, not happening.
Going on the road to Oak(LV) is not a loss, Carr will be a Carr-wreck.
The only games that I can say would be a surprising win (not that they can't, just the odds are against them) is vs KC and @Az (Mexico City). KC is still KC, but they seem less threatening without Hill, should be interesting to see how they look without his one of a kind ability to get open. Also, its not IN KC so thats a big bonus.
@Mexico, you travel to a 7200 above sea level stadium to play a QB who is very mobile, which can gas the dline. Its not that Az is better, just that little man running around you'll see all the dline huffing and puffing.
@Denver is tough but I don't think that just Wilson gets them from a 7-10 team to a team that is beating SF. Granted similar to Az in Mex, but Wilson isn't 24, he's 33...his mobility isn't what it was.
This team is a 12+ win team. Possible loses are KC, Az, TB (ehh), and a split with LA, but even then Niners have swept them in the reg the last 3 seasons.
The travel schedule is set well, the only one that worries me is home vs TB on Sunday then travel to Seattle for a short week TNF game, its not that Seattle is that good its that TB should be a tough match up and a short week with travel recovery is asking a lot.
Like the Carolina/ATL extended road trip, both cakewalk wins, stay and practice at Clemson (don't go to ATL for the week, too many "distractions"), come on home to host KC.
This schedule really set up nicely for the Niners. The toughest games are all at home (KC/SD/TB/NO/Mia). Road games against bottom feeders like Chi, ATL & Carolina, talk about a blessing.
13-4, make it happen.
I'd take that.
DeleteAll predicated on how well Lance's processor works when overclocked.
DeleteGoing to be a fun year for sure.
DeleteYup, TC should be fun as well. I'm very interested in the team finding hidden gems with their UDFA.
DeleteUnder the Lynch/Shanahan regime they have been able to find some very good players as UDFAs.
To note a few:
2017. Nick Mullens, Kendrick Bourne, Matt Breida.
2018. Jeff Wilson, Ross Dwelley, Emmanuel Moseley.
2019. D. F. Fowles, Kevin Givens, Azeez Al Shaair.
2020. JaMycle Hasty.
All of these players made the roster and contributed at one point or another.
My UDFA crush in 2022 is Jason Poe. Does not have the NFL standard measurables, but is a pure ball'r.
I need to see Poe lined up as an eligble receiving lineman, move the guy into the backfield, move Juice out wide, Poe runs a flat and just levels DBs a plenty.
DeleteeMJay,
ReplyDeleteIf Poe pans out, Shanahan may finally get his "positionless" player.
Center, RB, WR and Guard. Am I missing anything else, lol.
I'm sure he could send it 40 on a punt...and 25 on a return
DeleteSome encouraging news from rookie minicamp on Friday:
ReplyDelete* Danny Gray impresses: Gray, a third-round selection in last month's NFL Draft, was reportedly the best player at minicamp.
* Future third-down back Jordan Mason: The 9ers drafted RB Tyrion Davis-Price in the 3Rd Rd of the 2022 NFL Draft. However, it was a different running back that flashed during Friday's practice:
Undrafted FA RB Jordan Mason out of Georgia Tech.
Mason appeared to have good route running acumen and had a nice catch in traffic. With the 9ers in need of a pass-catching back, as well as new running backs coach Anthony Lynn's affinity for receivers out of the backfield, Mason could look to battle for a spot on the 53-man roster or the practice squad in training camp.
The question is, are the 9ers better with Lance at QB?
ReplyDeleteSan Francisco 49ers' 2022 Super Bowl odds:
Odds: +1500 (bet $100 to win $1,500)
Maybe with a little luck?
I don't think Jimmy G set the bar very high as far as reading defenses, moving in the pocket to buy time, threatening downfield or not making the same mistake over and over again. 3rd down is where Jimmy really excelled.
DeleteThey don't need Lance to be spectacular to be a good team, which helps. And if he is spectacular...
DeleteShoot, if he's spectacular then it's multiple Super Bowls. I think the 49ers think he could be by giving up what they did for him.
DeleteHilarious seeing all the slander. Dude wins 70% of the games...took them to 2 NFC Champ games, last time that happened was with Kaep (don't remember this much poo-pooing after his 2nd NFC Champ loss) and everyone acts like he's just along for the ride. We all saw what happened when anyone other than JG played QB for this team since 2013...
DeleteBetter hope Lance does come thru, would hate to see this become a Alex/Colin situation where again SF is left with a guy who doesn't turn into anything and you see JG leading 2 other teams to winning records and playoff spots.
Sometimes the devil you know is better than the one you don't.
And don't take that as any slander on Lance, he was the guy I wanted in the draft (if it wasn't TL) so glad they got him, I just know that he may not yet be ready and you can't throw away a season on a guy when the team is set to win now. The team can't afford to play through his groining pains and lumps, they aren't coming off like 81-91 where you go with the younger guy and can afford a down season. Nah, the team needs to keep winning now, no more "next year, next year". Title or bust is the mentality now, you've been to a SB, you've been to 2 NFC Champs, the teams as good as its ever been...so a SB win is a must.
DeleteRazor / Scooter
ReplyDeleteWe are talking about WINNING the SB? OK, so I risk $200 for a chance of making $3000. All for a good cause...RIGHT? LOL
Mistakes will happen under Lance no doubt. The key for him will be that he learns from them asap and avoid making them again. This is something that Garoppolo never seemed to grasp. But then again, Jimmy could still find a way to win more often then not. The mental aspect of the game is hugely important, and Trey will find this out as a starter. We all know that the physical talent and ability is there, what we don’t know is how Lance will react when under pressure from self-inflicted mistakes or from tough defensive games.
ReplyDeleteI’m anxious to see how that plays out during Trey’ NFL growing pains.
Yep. It sounds like he is very smart and diligent in terms of learning the playbook. So I expect he will be able to get across the plays well enough. The biggest learning curve for him will be learning how to then read defenses and knowing where to go with the ball based on what the defense shows him both pre- and post-snap. That for mine is the big unknown and hardest thing to predict when it comes to Lance.
DeleteHis mind might know where to go with the ball but will his accuracy cooperate? That's the $64 question.
DeleteHas anyone in the Niners organization come out and emphatically say that Lance is the starter?
ReplyDeleteNope, just Shanny saying sooner rather than later.
DeleteAnd a source who told a reporter that Lance is under the impression that he will be...which is basically as good as my cousins' neighbors' uncles' gardener said he knows a guy who heard it said.
DeleteAt least no one is trying to use the depth chart on the 49ers webpage as evidence one way or another.
Nobody has. But then nobody was officially declaring JG as the starter last season until just before the first game. I don't expect it to be any different this year.
Delete
ReplyDeleteThe hand writing's on the wall if....A) JG is traded....or B) JG is cut before the regular season starts against the Bears.
I mean...yeah?
DeleteI mean Lance is acting as if he's the leader of the team by calling the rookies and whatnot.
ReplyDeleteI'd be concerned if he wasn't. It's not like there's any doubt he will be the starter for this team, it's just when and for how long that has to be answered. It would be odd if he were a 4th round pick making those calls.
ReplyDeleteThe fact they were going to trade Jimmy but his operation got in the way tells me that they're confident Lance will be ready by opening day. Also their drafting TDP. Also Gray. Teams will load the box to stop our run and dare him to pass. I really can't wait for that to happen. They'll be killed, and then our defense will shut them down.
ReplyDeleteExactly, George. The 49ers have already told us who they expect the starter to be, even if they haven't said it explicitly.
DeleteNiner Nation article today about RB Jordan Mason. Sounds like a clone of TDP.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.ninersnation.com/2022/5/18/23074507/49ers-udfa-jordan-mason-tech
If Jimmy is still on the team in August it puts Trey Lance and the 49ers QB position in murky waters. The elephant in the room is Garoppolo and the sooner the 49ers make a decision on him to clearer the QB picture becomes. I believe that the FO will move JG before TC.
ReplyDeleteAES
If JG practices with the Niners he will be opening day starter for the Niners. Niners would be crazy to let him practice without that being the case.
ReplyDeleteI'd be shocked if JG takes another practice snap for the 49ers.
DeleteIf he does then I agree it means the team expects him to be on the opening day roster. But I don't think it would necessarily mean he will be the opening day starter. It's Lance's job to lose.
Too much of a risk to let him practice if he isn't going to be the starter. I agree he doesn't take another snap unless something physically happens to Lance.
Delete...between now and begging of training camp.^
Deletebeginning, not begging geez
Delete"I'd be shocked if JG takes another practice snap for the 49ers."
Delete+ 100
I think I believe Shanny when he said he's not just going to get rid of Jimmy to get rid of him. I believe Shanny has a deal in place with a team to make a trade just as soon as his rehab is finished and he can pass a physical.
ReplyDeleteI know that this is pure speculation here. But if the 49ers decided that JG is still a viable option at QB, would this have any ramifications on Deebo' decision to stay?
ReplyDeleteThe chemistry between Trey and Aiyuk seemed to work well during preseason last year. The chemistry between JG and Samuel was very good last year. Of course these are only random thoughts from an old guy.
AES
My hunch is Samuel would prefer Lance if he wants the field to open up for him underneath.
DeleteMan, Jimbo Fisher not holding back when dressing down Nick Saban!
ReplyDeleteI mean, do we really think Saban, a guy who went 34-24-1 at Michigan State, had only 2 10+ win seasons in his first 11 seasons (5 at LSU) suddenly turned into a guy who has only won less than 10 once in the last 15 years (2007 7-6 1st season at Alabama?) without some sort of extracarricular assistance?
DeleteI get Bama has history but in the prior 14 seasons had won more than 10 just 5 times following their championship in 92. It wasn't like Bama was some premier school when Saban got there, if anything both he and they were at low points with Saban having come off a 6-10 record with the Dolphins (following just a 9-7 season) and then still going just 7-6 in his first year at Bama. Something happened to get the level of talent in there to suddenly go 12-2 and 14-0 the next two seasons for a guy who had only won more than 10 games twice in his entire college and ncaa coaching career (2001 LSU 10-3 and 2003 LSU 13-1).
Its beyond obvious that Saban's been paying his players for over a decade and he knows that Fisher knows all the details, he was Saban's OC & QB coach at LSU.
It will come out one day and Saban will be revealed as the most corrupt of them all, RIP Joe Pa.
Saban broke the code in his revelation regarding paid college players. But as the old adage says; never throw rocks if you live in a glass house. Coach Prime Time Sanders is not a happy man today either.
ReplyDeleteAES
I will always be a fan of good people over talent every day. Most in here no I was and still not in favor of the trade. That does not mean I am against Lance; just the trade. I have no idea if he is the real deal or not. There is always people who overstate their praise or disappointment and the truth usually resides in the middle.
ReplyDeleteArm fitness - what the hell is that? It seems to me that it would be easy to see any concerns with the arm whether its accuracy, strength or durability. Does it mean that he loses all of the above as the game/practices progress. I say hogwash to arm fitness. Lance is the starter unless he is injured along the way in training camp.
Harris responded, saying, "Arm Fitness- the ability to consistently throw the football all season long and beyond to the playoffs. This can be fixed through focused off-season training and a commitment to arm care."
DeleteWell from what I can make out of it, it seems that it's another term for conditioning.
Ahhh, correct me if I'm wrong BUT.....Ryan Harris is a former offensive lineman turned broadcaster and analyst! So yea,
Deletethat qualifies him as an EXPERT on a QB's ARM? LMAO
Not sure why but seems like disparaging Lance has become the new pass time for football media.
DeleteWho knows, maybe there is some shred of truth behind the rumours some people inside the organization weren't enamoured with Lance last season. If there is some truth behind it I believe the most vocal of those are no longer with the team.
What we are seeing now is people adding additional "detail" that quite frankly sounds made up.
What we do know is the team was very much wanting to offload their vet 2021 starter this offseason. They only do that if they believe Lance is ready. And Shanahan has all but said he believes he is ready. That's what matters.
Timeline is key as to these comments. Are we talking last year when he came into camp after a year out of football?
ReplyDeleteComplet BS what this media attention seeking idiot says.
ReplyDeleteArm fitness? LOL!
Trey has a live arm that's why we drafted him./
Lance will get his opportunity to make these commentators eat their words.
ReplyDelete
