Yeehaw!

Matt Barrows
Spoke with The Cowboy, Justin Smith, this week. He enjoyed the Cowboys game: "I tell you what, they're fun to watch," he said of the 49ers. "I like watching their defense -- Warner, Armstead and for sure Bosa. They've got some guys. Wish 'em the best."

    1. Jimmy G is 25/25 on QB sneak on third and 1 or 4th and 1 as a Niner. Let's not overthink it the next time.

    2. Yeah, it was Jimmy's fault for not waiting for TW to get set, but why put him in motion in the first place?

    3. Joe Staley thought that the blame was 50-50 on Jimmy and Trent. One went too fast and other other too slow. As the saying goes, if the play worked out, Kyle would look like the genius hes is accused of being.

  3. How extremely cold weather affects a football:

"A football exposed to 10 degree temperatures for just one hour got slightly smaller, and its air pressure reduced by one-fifth, and had a lower coefficient of restitution (in other words, it was less bouncy).

This causes the ball to come off the kicker’s foot more slowly. Overall, however, ESPN Sport Science noted that it did not have too much on an impact on the game. Punts travel an average of just three yards less in cold weather games, while passing completion percentage fell just two percent and the accuracy of field-goal kickers fell by a mere 1.7 percent."

49ers are the NFL's only defense to allow less than 1 yard before contact per rush attempt on the season (including playoffs, PFF)

  5. Re-watched the Dallas game. Kittle and Juice are on top of their game -- to paraphrase HAM: running around and cracking skulls, doing their thing.

Packers will see a new running game from the Niners compared to October. IIRC, Mitchell was out for the Packer game this season and Deebo was not being used as a RB at that time.

    2. HOW THE 9ERS DEFEAT THE PACKERS AND ROGERS: GB's run defense is 27th defensively in rushing DVOA and 27th in rushing EPA per play allowed. They’re 32nd in rushing success rate, 32nd in explosive run plays allowed and this is is primarily in the latter half of the season.
GB is bottom 5 in all these categories. It’s a problem the 9ers can attack this weekend. Run the ball, control the clock, make Rogers and Adams spectators....9ers 27--GB 24

  6. Not a good century so far for the Packers in the play-offs.

The Packers have the most playoffs losses (6) at home throughout the entire NFL during the last 20 years.

  7. “It’s not a circus show here,” Charles Omenihu told reporters Wednesday.

He added how the 49ers aren’t an “ego-driven organization” and don’t have a “power struggle” between the head coach and general manager. Omenihu played most of his Houston career with Bill O’Brien as head coach and GM, while spending part of 2021 with David Culley and Nick Caserio in those respective roles.

  8. GB II- Coaching adjustments........ anyone?

I liked that Ryans mixed in some different looks against Dallas. I think Rogers will continue to try and get the ball out early.... if Bosa plays and the front four can generate pressure, their plan is probably to still get rid of the ball in 2.5 seconds. Therein, maybe a little jamming at the line and bracketing over the top....Mitchell wildcat behind a jumbo line? I know it is hard to make adjustments to the zone, just a bit soft for me at times......

  9. SOME GOOD NEWS AND SOME NOT SO GOOD NEWS"
Wednesday’s practice report was full of good news. Among other things, Nick Bosa was upgraded to limited, and Azeez Al-Shaair and Fred Warner practiced in full. For the second straight day. Jimmy Garoppolo however, was limited with thumb and shoulder injuries.

GB’s rushing defense ranks (Since Week 10):

    Rushing DVOA: 27th
    Rushing EPA: 27th
    Rushing Success Rate: 32nd
    Explosive Runs Allowed: 32nd

This is the #49ers’ path to victory. It’s an Elijah Mitchell and Deebo Samuel game all the way.

    2. 100%. I mean, its their path to success every game, but this week in particular.

And you can bet the Packers will look to adjust their D specifically to combat it. 49ers will need to be good at taking advantage of the shot play opportunities the Packers give them as well.

  14. Looks like the 49ers will have a full complement of players available this week, bar those on IR obviously.

Great to hear Bosa, Warner and JG all appear to be right to go.
