“We have new running backs every year that you’ve never heard of who go out and outperform, but Elijah Mitchell is special,” Jones said. “I really think he is, the way that he runs. It’s given our offensive line the ability to showcase their run-blocking.”-Brent Jones
ReplyDeleteSomeone agrees with me for a change!
Yup Mitchell is special, he is my co Niner MVP along with Deebo. The run blocking is really, really good. It's fun to watch.
DeleteDoes SF even try to get RM back next year? Would be crazy to see him and EM together.
DeleteeMJay, RM seems like a candidate for one of those 1 year prove you can stay healthy deals Marathe likes to do. I just don't see a big market for a 30 year old running back with a history of unavailability coming off another injury.
DeleteDoes Mostert have any WR in him? Idk. If so would be a nice spell for Deebo.
DeleteI'd love to get him back next year to be part of the RB room with Mitchell, Sermon and Wilson.
DeleteMitchell as the primary RB with a handful of touches for Mostert a game to take advantage of the speed he brings.
But I suspect a team like the Jets may be willing to offer more.
Hello. I met some guy who told me that he feels like he has "a little unfinished business" and stuff, but that he was banned from posting anything on this website or something like that.
DeleteSo he asked me if I could post a few things for him, and he told me that it wouldn't be a lot of stuff. He also told me that there was no membership fee, or fee to post things, but I am new at this computer stuff, so I wasn't sure if there was some kind of membership fee, or if I was even allowed to write things for other people?
I don't know if you guys know this guy who says he goes by the name 49 reasons, but before I do write a few things for him, I just wanted to make sure I am allowed to do that, and I was wondering if there is a membership fee, or if I had to register or anything like that, because like I said, I am new to this interweb stuff?
Thanks
I like Mitchell but I don't think he is special.
DeleteA healthy Mostert was so much better, it was not even close. I feel like Mitchell is good but lacks Mostert's vision and explosion. In fact I would also take Breida as a pure runner over Mitchell if I trusted him to hold on the ball. Obviously due to his ability to hold onto the ball, Mitchell would get the nod but both of those runners averaged a greater ypc and I would argue they did so behind lesser offensive lines.
I would still bring in an explosive rb if I could find one as a UFA.
I don't know Shoup, the old standard for an RB was 1000 yards in a 12-game season. He has 963 yards in 11 games, he averages 4.7 yards a game, number 8 in NFL rushing, and as of yet not a single fumble. And a rookie to boot...KS's playbook. Correct he is not explosive.
DeleteSpeed, toughness, identifies the correct hole and attacks it, forward lean, ball security. I mean if that's not special as a rookie then I guess football has passed me by.
DeleteI guess it comes down to wording. When saying a rb is special, I think they need to be a top 5 running back. I don't see him as that.
DeleteHim being a rookie doesn't matter much to me, as it is probably the most plug an play position in the NFL and he was playing behind possibly the best run blocking line in the league.
I think he is a very good player. I just wouldn't call him special, as I wouldn't put in the same category as Taylor, Henry, McCaffery or Chubb. I will say, I felt like if Mostert could have stayed healthy for a full season in this offense... he was 2000 yard back with or without the extra game behind this oline. Sadly, I just think at this point you can't trust him to stay healthy.
A 6th round rookie rb who was thrust into the lead back role two plays into the season opener, in a sophisticated offense like Shanny's is impressive for mine.
Delete1. He came from an offense that used SF as a model for their play calling. They even commissioned a study on Kyle’s run game to further meld them. It’s essentially his 5th year in this offense
Delete2. Offenses are not that hard for rb’s to pick up, that position is spelled out more directly than any other position on the field. That’s why so many do so well at year 1, while rookies at other positions tend to struggle more.
Mitchell is averaging 4.32 yards per carry after contact. That is special.
DeleteDefinitely good that Rick Ross won't be on the sideline Sunday.
ReplyDeletePeter king this morning said he thinks Jimmy G is worth a mid round 1 this off season. Wanted to provide you a good laugh on your birthday! Happy birthday
ReplyDeleteI think I agree. When you look at Mac Jones' numbers and Garoppolo's, they're pretty similar. That was my main contention about not wanting Jones at 3 because I believed it was a lateral move. Lots of teams needing a starting caliber QB in a weak draft class too. If you're a GM on a good team like the Colts, do you want to risk drafting a quarterback or trading for a proven winner?
DeleteIf your team needs an upgrade at qb, how can you not at least consider him for a 2023 1?
DeleteI still think the more likely scenario is a 2022 day 2 pick and a 2023 day 2 or 3 pick.
DeleteIt's funny how Jimmy's value as perceived by fans rises or falls with every game -- his stock price is very volatile.
DeleteThe reality is that competent front offices have already priced him and that price won't budge from game to game.
My view all season has been that Jimmy is a proven starter in a league where the teams are ready to make a switch if their QBs in the bottom third of starters. Jimmy is definitely in the top two-thirds of the QBs.
A proven starting QB should fetch a first round pick in an ideal scenario. But the market is constrained by the cap and so the team hoping to get Jimmy would need to have the space to accommodate his $26M. That would limit the size of the market. On top of that there is the realization that the Niners would need to off-load Jimmy's salary.
Taking all that into consideration a second round pick may be more realistic.

DeleteI had thought Denver may be willing to trade their 2nd round 2022 draft pick and a 4th - 5th Rd pick for JG.
But the team is for sale now, and Vic Fangio fired, so who knows what the new owners will do.
If I am SF, I would hope to sell it as a sign and trade. The idea being to bring his cap number down for the new team and make it more palatable while raising SF's asking price. I still don't think he brings a first... but potentially something like a 2nd and 3rd which could be escalated to a 2nd or 4th which could be escalated to 3rd if certain qualifiers are met.
DeletePerhaps the Saints would do this as they have a win now defense and an Offensive minded coach who has experience working with lesser armed qb's.
Well, if JG wins a SB, his brand will rise exponentially. Pipe dream? Perhaps. But why not think big especially now that we are in the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteGetting past the cowpokes will thrust the 49ers into the national limelight. At the moment the 49ers vs Cowboys game seem to center more about their past history rather than Sunday's game.
I expect a great game on Sunday, and as a former 49er and cowboys player once said; "get your popcorn ready!"
Really good one hour interview with Joe Staley. Talks about KS and how he handles players, previews what to watch in the upcoming game with Dallas, why Jimmy is underappreciated by fans, and a number of other topics.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cu-QP7q9nJU
One of the most interesting parts of the interview for me was Joe talking about Mike McDaniel. I don't think he meant to downplay Kyle's genius, but he sure left me with the impression that McDaniel is a genius in his own right particularly for run play design. Says that if McDaniel leaves it will be a big loss.
DeleteI don't think McDaniel's is head coaching material. Doesn't impress me as that type of personality. I think he's more suited for his current role.
DeleteDieter Kurtenbach article today on Niners in the playoffs. Imo he's a very sharp writer.

The 9ers offense gains an advantage on leaky Cowboys defense but it all comes down to JG and NO TURNOVERS!
ReplyDelete* When the opposing offense limits, or eliminate turnovers altogether, the Dallas defense is a middle-of-the-pack unit. If not, their defense will make you pay! Where they're most susceptible though, just happens to be what the 49ers' offense does best.
This season, the Cowboys' defense has surrendered 2,275 yards after the catch, the fourth-most in the league.
Soon enough, the Dallas defense will be introduced to Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk, aka the YAC Bros.
Niners writing some checks. They better cash in.
ReplyDeleteFor the Niners to have a chance to win all their remaining games they must:
ReplyDelete1. run the ball.
2. have an unrelenting pass rush for the entire game.
Do those two things, everything else will fall into place.
I would add that they need to win the turnover battle.
