Changing Of The Guard
The 2019 49ers were a defensively led team. This years team is the direct opposite. The offense has to be the dominant force that fuels them to where they want to go. The blueprint has been laid. Be elite offensively and let the defense feed off of that, while playing complimentary special teams. That should allow them to move up from a top ten team right now to a top 5. That means consistent, mistake free football from here on out, and continuing to take it away defensively. The only speed bump they must overcome is RT. Shanny Inc. can only do so much to scheme it away. Sooner or later it's going to come back and bite them. How much longer before Banks is ready to make a deposit at RG so they can move Brunskill to his natural position?

I think Moore can make the position his own. Just needs some experience.
ReplyDeleteBut would love to see Banks get to the point he's pushing Brunskill for the RG spot.
Re the offense now being the group that the team relies on, this was something I mentioned would need to be the case after the 2019 season and trading Buck. Has taken longer to get there than I expected though!
Lots of speed bumps mostly of the injury variety. Keeping all the offensive stars on the field has been an issue.
DeleteI had also expected JG to take the next step, which hasn't happened. But as we're seeing atm, they really just need JG to be efficient, which he definitely can be.
DeleteEfficiency on the money down is huge.
DeleteI think the offense can carry the team into the playoffs but it's the defense that needs to step up and shine during the second season.
ReplyDeleteReinforcements should be coming too. Greenlaw and Hurst. Mitchell in another week. I think Sermon earned himself 10 opportunities against the Vikings.
DeleteHurst has been an underrated loss imo. He's actually played quite well in the limited time he's been available.
DeleteYea, I've been dying to get Hurst back. Street wasn't playing too well but I think he's improved recently.
DeleteI'm still less than impressed by Street. The less snaps they need from him the better imo.
DeleteStreet can still have a useful role as a cheap rotational piece of the D line. I think he still may be coached into improving his run D -- seems to have the tools.
DeleteHe has a long way to go imo before I'd trust him getting significant snaps on a regular basis.
DeleteGiven he's a FA at the end of the season, I'd be inclined to just let him go.
Welcome back Mr Ford.
ReplyDeleteCould not have come at a better time.
DeleteHell yea!
DeleteApparently, DE Griffen dealing w some serious issues in Minn... assume he won't be traveling w the team at this point- hope he is all good........ but, also don't mind the distraction for them.
ReplyDelete- agree w Street being a disappointment, especially relative to his supposed strength (would be nice to find another Justin Smith to collapse the pocket). It appears to me that Key added a lot of weight vs his playing days with the Raiders- I assume that is helping him.
More on Viking RDE Everson Griffin incident:
DeletePolice, Vikings reps at Everson Griffen's home after he reported intruder, fired weapon.
Minnesota Vikings representatives, team mental health professionals and local law enforcement were at the home of defensive end Everson Griffen on Wednesday after a disturbing Instagram post and 911 call.
Griffen reported an intruder in the early morning hours and law enforcement officers reported to the home, but said they didn't find anyone. Griffen remained in his home and refused to come out, they said.

Mitchell returns to practice.
ReplyDeleteWhen Mitchell is carrying the ball I feel like All State.
DeleteMy biggest surprise is CB J Norman! The last couple of games he's beginning to act like he may contribute to the defense
ReplyDeleteNorman is getting his swag back.
Delete#of FF by Norman this season: 5
Delete#of FF by rest of Niners' D this season: 5
Norman has something to teach the DBs and LBs.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
ReplyDelete??????Kyle Shanahan: Jimmy Garoppolo has a chance to return in 2022, Trey Lance is the future??????
ReplyDeletehttps://sports.yahoo.com/kyle-shanahan-jimmy-garoppolo-chance-095412786.html
Is it any different from what ShanaLynch had told us back in May-June? IIRC, this is exactly what they have always said.
DeleteSure, there is a chance - he is under contract. There is zero advantage to the 49ers to say any different.
DeleteBut the chances of that happening I believe are very very small.
I wouldn't worry about it GEEP.
Delete1. Kyle is very non committal about everything he says... he wont even guarantee we will all be here next Sunday. So when he says "I think there’s a chance for anything, but I think we made it pretty clear that Trey is our guy of the future" I think it's pretty strong indicator Jimmy is gone next year.
2. The Current Cap wont allow it. Yes, it will go up but currently SF doesn't have enough to space to fill out their 2022, 53 man roster even if everyone accepted league minimum. If you couple that with the fact that they need to try and resign Deebo and Bosa, they need to get a fair amount of cap space and Jimmy is the easiest way to get it.
3. If SF wants to get anything for Jimmy in a trade, they have to give the impression that they might keep him.
So I think its pretty obvious that Kyle is trying to navigate through to the best trade possible.
Wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to all fellow Niners fans at this watering hole. Here's a toast to the Niners making a deep playoff run this holiday season.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, all.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to all the Inspired 49ers family.
ReplyDeleteFor everyone a happy thanksgiving except for Shanny cuz for his idiotic remarks.
ReplyDeleteWe need the money that Jimmy G gets for more quality at the CB spot and O Line.
Also take advantage of the rookie contract of our future at QB.
There is no leverage if you say you "must trade" Jimmy G. So I think Shanahan is playing this right. Come OTAs next year, I don't think Jimmy G will be here.
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving everybody.
ReplyDeleteWe don't really do Thanksgiving here in Australia, but happy Thanksgiving to everyone all the same!
ReplyDeleteNiners now have the 7th playoff spot. Beating the Vikes will move the Niners to the 6th spot.
ReplyDeleteThe Bills did their part and beat N.O. 31 to 6, now the 9ers need to defeat the Vikings and move in 6th place for the NFC playoffs.
ReplyDeleteHope everyone and their families had a Happy Thanks Giving

Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t mince words Wednesday about how much the Vikings’ defensive line attrition could help the 49ers for Sunday’s home game. It’s a big advantage for us,” Garoppolo said, before doling out ample respect to the Minnesota backups he’ll encounter Sunday at Levi’s Stadium. Already out this week among the Vikings’ defensive line are starters Danielle Hunter (injured reserve), plus run stuffers Dalvin Tomlinson (COVID reserve) and Michael Pierce (injured reserve).
