  1. Feel bad for the guy, but man, got diagnosed with chronic knee issues at the combine and now had his second knee surgery of his NFL career midway through his second season.

Getting a 1st for trading Buckner only looks good if you do something useful with that pick.

    1. If as they say they rectified his issue then he'll still have a chance to help this team next year. TBD.

    2. When they drafted him I assumed that they would have accounted for the knee. They're smart, I though. So it looked like a good pick to me. So much potential. The kid's just getting started. But now . . . it looks so bada$$ dumb. Must admit my opinion of Shanahan has changed. (Lynch is just a puppet on a string.) I should have figured this, though. It all goes back to the Yorks. They couldn't manage a lemonade stand.

  2. There's got to be players coming into the draft that haven't had injury issues.
Not sure why this regime can't find them.
The 49ers mantra needs to be "availability is the best ability."

  3. Maybe Lynch Inc. got a little too cute turning Buckner into Kinlaw/Aiyuk but we won't know for sure until we get to the end of their story. Right now the suspense is killing us!

    1. I'm not big on the "in hindsight" game, but I said at the time they took Kinlaw (and leading up to the draft) that I didn't like the idea of using that pick to try and replace Buckner. Because it is very hard to find a guy to replace a Pro Bowl/ All Pro talent, and by using the pick they got for Buckner on Kinlaw it guaranteed Kinlaw will always be measured against Buckner. Very unfair to him.

    2. That's a good point Scooter. Those were big shoes to fill for Kinlaw. Granted, he sure looked the part as a prospect, but the chronic knee condition/injury has clearly stunted his development, which is a shame. Yet another questionable physical evaluation from the 49ers Personnel & Scouting department!

I am in favor of him shutting it down now, and opting for corrective surgery at this stage, and I do hold out hope that his knee becomes much more manageable in future seasons, which just might allow him to avoid the BUST label that is already taking hold.

  4. Quite a few years ago I would wake up and see which Niner got arrested. Now I wake up and look at which new Niner has been placed on the injured reserve.

  5. Did you guys catch Bucky Brooks piece today, on Kyle? He pretty much hit every bullet point for me. It's a MUST READ!

    1. If you guys haven't read it yet, here's the link above, subtitled:

KYLE SHANAHAN: Bloom off the rose?

Here is my section of this fantastic Bucky Brooks' article:

"Is Shanahan capable of winning a series of games with a less-than-ideal starter or is his success driven solely by the play of the 49ers' QB1? And what happens when Jimmy's play falters, like it has this season?"

"Well, theoretically, San Francisco came into this season prepared to weather any injuries or struggles from Garoppolo. Trey Lance was handpicked by Shanahan and Co. with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft as the 49ers' quarterback of the future, possessing dynamic traits as a true dual-threat weapon. Quite a bullpen option, right? Yet when Lance was forced into action this month by a Garoppolo injury, it appeared as though the offensive wizard did not have a clear plan for maximizing the rookie's skill set. Part of Lance's struggles can be attributed to inexperience, of course, as he's still just 21 years old and lacked significant high-level college experience coming out of North Dakota State. But the 49ers certainly did not put him in the best position to succeed with the game plan or play calls. That has raised eyebrows around the league, based on Shanahan's reputation as an offensive guru. If he is incapable of crafting a plan that helps his young quarterback thrive, how will the 49ers ever close the gap on their division rivals with all-star quarterbacks already in place?"

  6. You can have a ego but with only 1 winning season and still holding your hand above a average injuryprone qb that's kamikaze.

  7. Kyle Shanahan calls narrative that 49ers’ Jimmy Garoppolo has played poorly all season ‘inaccurate’

He is to soft with Jimmy G./

  8. I feel that this regimes philosophy on drafting and player development needs to be questioned.
Much can be said about Garoppolo' lack of development due to injuries, but when he has played he does not look anywhere close to his 2017 half season play. If anything. Jimmy has regressed and he seems to be playing not to get injured rather than attacking the opponent. He shows no fire in the huddle when the team needs a lift. Jimmy is too nice a guy who does not want to confront his teammates and get in their face when they run a bad route or drop catchable passes. He is playing out the string because he knows that he won't be back next year.

On Lance, he is not ready. He could have suffered a bad injury two weeks ago when he was viciously hit at the goal line when tried to run it in. Trey needs to learn the speed and nuances of the pro game before he has a true chance to succeed. I'm not very keen on throwing him in to start this season simply because there is no clear-cut offensive game plan for him at this time. Installing him as a starter this year will turn him into Colin Kaepernick who was looking to run at every opportunity even when the pass rush wasn't near him. If we're desperate to make a QB change, I hope it's Nate Sudfelt. Please give Trey more time.

    1. At least get him those 6 plays a game and then ramp it up as possible.
