    2. Another two teams of interest to the Niners are the Chiefs and the Packers who are $21M and $10M over the cap, respectively.

Niners are actually in a pretty good situation relative to most teams -- which is what matters most in FA.

    3. Turns out there wasn't much to worry about after all regarding their cap situation.

  2. “I always believe you build your team around the defensive line, and then you move backwards — so that’s what we’re going to do. . . . There is one commonality of great teams: they have great defensive lines,” Meyer said, via the team’s website. “You can’t avoid that. There are ways to hide other things, but you have to have a strong defensive line. We’re committed to do that here.”

    Meyer showing some wisdom.

  3. "Before the pandemic, it was expected that the NFL's new media deals would significantly raise the salary cap in 2021. That obviously did not happen. Before the pandemic, teams anticipated this year's salary cap to be set around $215 million. Instead, it currently sits at about $32.5 million less.

Based on the information from OverTheCap.com, the 49ers currently have $23.98 million in salary-cap space, which ranks No. 11 in the NFL in terms of available money. A year ago, the 49ers ranked No. 27 in salary-cap space.

Ten teams are currently over the cap limit."

    1. The reduction by over $30M in salary cap compared to expectation pre COVID is why I get annoyed when people suggest the 49ers planned poorly forbthis offseason. With that additional $30M they would have no trouble re-signing/ signing the players they want with minimal need to restructure any contracts. Can't plan for a global pandemic.

As it is, they are actually in much better shape than originally feared anyway.

  4. Contract details on Dwelley:
49ers TE Ross Dwelley: One-year, $920K deal. $480K to sign, $920K salary, $200K in per game roster bonuses

  5. Scooter/Razor/Mid,
Emmanuel Sanders was released by the Saints. He had a nice chemistry with Garoppolo in 2019, is a reunion with the 49ers a possibility?

    1. If he's willing to do a one year deal on the cheap, you betcha!

      Delete
    2. Sure, at the right price. They'll need to add a WR or two anyway.

    3. A receiver core with Sanders, Aiyuk, Samuel, and George Kittle would be one of the best units in the NFL and make life on Jimmy Garoppolo and Kyle Shanahan easy. Should the 9ers sign Sanders for a one-year, $6 million deal? If he's willing to sign for that price, I say ABSOLUTELY!

  6. NFL announces 2021 compensatory draft picks:

  7. Two 3rd rounders... was that expected? I had thought it was only going to be one (for Saleh), what was 2nd one for? Certainly not complaining mind you!

    1. Ah, did some digging, the 2nd one was for Martin Mayhew. I had originally thought that would be in 2023.

So the 9ers lose 5th Rd compensatory draft pick #173, but gain 3Rd compensatory draft pick #103?

      Delete
    3. No no, 49ers also get the 5th rounder. I just had been of the understanding it would only be one 3rd this year. That the Mayhew 3rd rounder would come down the track in 2023. But turns out if you lose two minority personnel to HC/ GM roles in the same year you get those picks in the same year.

    4. Hold the phone, I am now seeing tweets that the comp list had an error - 49ers in fact only getting one 3rd rounder this year. The Mayhew pick will indeed be in the future.

    1. Thanks Mugeek9er, appreciate it. Razor deserves the credit for setting this all up for us. And don't forget MidWest - he's been out of action for a little bit (not sure why but he does tend to have a lot going on at various times), but he'll be back no doubt and contributing too.

    3. Excellent! Fingers crossed he's back on deck soon.

  9. So apparently N'Keal Harry may be shopped by the Patriots. It was reported that Shanahan really wanted Harry in 2019, with Deebo the fallback option.

I proposed previously that a trade sending JG to the Pats for Gilmore and some picks may make sense. Maybe JG for Gilmore and Harry?

  10. Grant has joined the Kellen Mond at 12 bandwagon. For all I know he'll be a steal for someone, but these are certainly wild and crazy times among NFL sports journos. Hard not to get swept away.

    2. George: "Brutal way to earn a living" GRANT'S SELLING SNAKE OIL FOR CLICKS. He also has no "F"ing clue!
      1) Draft Kellen Mond at 12?
      2) Trade up for Mac Jones?
      3) Draft Kyle Trask?
ESPN should make him wear a monkey suit and let him throw darts at a draft board. BTW: You notice how many clicks he earned for that bit of wisdom? lmao

    3. Currently Grant's running around like a chicken without a head, imo. I do like his video analysis, though.

#UCLA RB/WR Demetric Felton is a true swiss army knife. He will help an NFL team in a variety of ways.

    Felton's virtual slate has included meetings w/ #49ers, #Patriots, #Rams, #Titans, #Browns, #Buccaneers, #Packers, #Bills, #Falcons & #Cardinals to name a few.

I believe, Shoup really likes this kid. Could be a day 3 consideration.

    5. I love Felton. Being a UCLA alum, I've watched as many UCLA games as possible. He began as a receiver, so his pass catching skills and route running are advanced; but more importantly, he is actually a solid running back. He is a rich man's Curtis Samuel, who did really well with Carolina this year. BUT, I don't think he will last too late on Day 3; I can see him even going as a 3rd round pick for someone.

    1. I'm very interested to see what sort of market he gets in this FA landscape. At his age and with a few good WRs on the market and in the draft, he might be able to be had pretty cheap.

    2. Graded out at 74.6 per PFF for the year.

  13. I don't know how many people on here know about Quincy Avery, but he is a very well respected private QB coach. He is currently coaching Trey Lance (and has also worked with Justin Fields), and has previously worked with Deshaun Watson. Here is an article with an interview of Avery about Lance. Now obviously his is a biased opinion, but the comments he has about what he was asked to do at NDSU is eye opening.

    https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/football-team/trey-lances-qb-coach-has-thoughts-may-change-your-opinion-prospect

What he goes through here is exactly why I like Lance a lot more than many. Everything I have read about the guy raves about how smart he is, how hard he works, and how much was put on his plate running the NDSU offense. All while being a RS Freshman. He has plenty of things he needs to work on but everything I hear about the guy makes me think he is the type of guy I bet on.

Also... interesting that he said he would be surprised if Lance fell past 12. I have heard a few reports that the 49ers really like Lance.
