F/A Frenzy And The Rumor Mill

The 49ers have signed the following players as of right now:

  • FB Kyle Juszczyk: Re-signed to a five-year contract worth $27 million. (Ian Rapoport)
  • LB Samson Ebukam: Signing a two-year, $12 million deal that has a max value of $13.5 million. (Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport)
  • CB Emmanuel Moseley: Signed a two-year contract worth up to $10.1 million. (Ian Rapoport)
  • CB Jason Verrett: Staying on a one-year deal including a $5.5 million base salary; if he reaches the Pro Bowl, it can become a $6.5 million deal. (Ian Rapoport)

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the 49ers were one of several interested in, Peyton Ramsey, QB, Northwestern.

#LSU LB/S Jacoby Stevens has met virtually/communicated with the #Patriots (multiple times), #Bills, #49ers, #Bengals, #Vikings, #Packers, #Jets, #Cardinals and #Falcons. An intriguing defender that can play all over the field. #NFLDraft

NFL Media's Mike Garafolo reported Monday that the 49ers are interested in quarterback Mitchell Trubisky

**Update**
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo is reporting the 49ers are competing for, Andy Dalton's services.

The 49ers have lost former PR director, Clubber Lange to the Eagles as their new SVP of communications.

As of  this morning, not including the Ford restructure and recent contract details that are unknown, the 49ers have $20,494,377 left. The 49ers are showing strong interest in C/OG and veteran backup quarterbacks, and we should expect continued movement in those directions. I expect they're devoting most efforts towards locking up their prize f/a, Trent Williams. Still no word on that front. Stay tuned...
Papa says #49ers have a 4-$80M on table for , no other details. Will have to come up to keep 71. Have to be creative, other teams (Indy) have more $ space and need as well.
#Falcons free agent center Alex Mack is expected to sign with the #49ers, source said, as the Cal product lands back in the Bay Area. Mack has been with coach Kyle Shanahan in Cleveland and Atlanta... and now SF.
While you (and I) were sleeping: The #49ers agreed to terms with LT Trent Williams on a six-year, $138.06 million deal with $55.1 million guaranteed, including a $30.1 million signing bonus, per @elsportsllc @loyalty24_7. The NFL’s new highest-paid offensive lineman.

  1. Good to see Juice and Verrett back, Hyder and both of the Williams would make it complete for me. Welcome aboard Samson Ebukam.

  2. "The market for Andy Dalton is active on the second day of negotiating. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported the Chicago Bears "are in on" the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and the San Francisco 49ers are a "strong contender" to land him."

    1. This makes more sense than the Trubisky rumors that were being floated around. Still think we need to extend Jimmy but they really don't want to do that.

    2. I would go for a partial restructure on, Jimmy but I expect them to wait until next year to either restructure, trade or release.

  3. Ramsey is a potential UDFA signing for the Niners. Did Rich Scangarello attend Northwestern Pro Day. If Scangarello shows up on Stanford Pro Day on Thursday, that would indicate to me to be actual Niners' interest in Mills.

    1. Agreed, Mood. Really impressed with the program, Fitzgerald has built at Northwestern. He's got a future in the NFL when/if he decides to make that move. I think people are sleeping on, Mills as far as the 49ers having some interest. You couldn't ask for much more from a late day 2, early day 3 prospect.

I would think both Stanford QB Mills, as well as OT
Walker Little would be on the 9ers list of players to look at. OT Little especially, after not playing in 2019 (injured), and opting out in 2020. (Covid virus)

      Delete
    3. Yea, for sure, Little was an ascending player prior to opting out.

    4. Razor/Geep,

Yes, Fitzerald has been excellent for the Wildcats. I believe he just signed a long-term (10 year) extension. He might be a college HC lifer like Shaw.

Little was a consensus first-round pick after the 2018 season. But his injury and the opt-out has hindered his development. But the talent is still there and he will be a likely second day pick. Both Mills and Little are promising developmental picks who ideally would not start in year 1, IMO.

    5. Walker Little is definitely a gamble they could take in the mid rounds.
My draft Crush at OT is Teven Jenkens, (I dont't think Slater will be available) I would love him in a trade back scenario. Dude is Nasty, Reminds me a little of Kevin Gogan. I think this line needs a little bit of that.

    6. Kevin Gogan is going into the way back machine. Didn't he play for the Patriots when their logo was the Patriot center?

RE Teven Jenkens. I like him day 2 Rd#3. Rd#4 he's a steal. My only concern with him is his arms a little short of ideal and can force him to reach past his center of gravity, making off balance.
I also think his draft stock dropped when he opted out early.
Question for you: If the 9ers don't resign TW, do they sign a free agent, (Alejandro Villanueva, the Steelers), draft an OT, or do both?

RE Keven Gogan: Born born Nov/2, 1964 in Pacifica CA. Drafted 1987 / Round 8 / Pick: 206 by the cowgirls.
Career History: Dallas cowgirls (1987–1993) Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders (1994–1996) San Francisco 49ers (1997–1998) Miami Dolphins (1999) San Diego Chargers (2000)

    9. Lmao, I'm thinking, Grogan.🤦‍♂️

    10. In Terms of Gogan, I was comparing them in terms of how tough and mean they are.
Geep, I can't see anyway he lasts into the second round and his arms don't bother me. In his last 2 seasons he had nearly 600 pass blocking snaps, in which he gave up 11 pressures and no sacks. He actually compares pretty well with Slater IMO, a little less athletic but stronger and more powerful.

    11. I like Jenkins, and I believe the 49ers have met with him. I could definitely see him as a guy they look at with their 2nd round pick if they lose Williams (may need to move up). There are actually a few OTs I like the look of in round 2.

  4. The Pats seem to be making up for decades of scrimping on FA spending. Perhaps preparing for a Jimmy G return? Let the rumor mills churn!

    1. What's, Jimmy's strength? Throwing in the middle of the field short to intermediate. The Patriots just invested considerable cap-ital into two TE's via free agency. Hmmm....

      Delete
    2. Quick release, very accurate on shorter, timing based routes and mid field routes, even to deeper intermediate areas (anything up to around 30 yards).
So he needs quick guys that create separation immediately or bigger guys with good hands that he can trust to come down with it.

The details for some of the San Francisco 49ers' latest free agent signings are in. Per Over the Cap, here are the cap hits for 2021:

    CB Jason Verrett ($5.3 million)

    OLB Samson Ebukam ($3.7 million)

    CB Emmanuel Moseley ($2.6 million)

    FB Kyle Juszczyk ($2.2 million)

  7. Deal on the table for T Williams is four years for 80 mil

  8. I suspect that offer for, Williams has been on the table for awhile and was the 49ers opening salvo into negotiations for the prized f/a.

    1. My two sense: Move on from the guy.

    2. You know George I am kind of with you on that.

    3. George, I get your frustration and all but he makes the team better than any players you could bring in with that $20 million+ other than say a, Watson.

      Delete
    4. I was More ok with moving on from him with the idea that SF could get a top notch pass rusher with that salary savings. That idea is nearly off the table with the the remaining free agents, so they would likely need to spend that money improving across the board.

      Delete
    5. Whatever happens, the 49ers clearly really don't want to lose him. Which to me is good enough reason to hope he stays.

  9. As an side, from an article on 49ersWebZone:

Mac Jones is extremely intelligent. Mike Greenberg reported that Jones graduated from Alabama in 2 ½ years, with a Master's degree, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. This speaks to his mental processing ability. Chris Simms also highlighted Jones' processing ability as the best in this class, adding that it rivals that of Joe Burrow.

  13. Cubus, you may have just read that Brissett has signed with Miami. Who else is left in free agency but Trubisky?

  14. So this is a strange one - Goodwin has reverted back to the 49ers roster as he didn't meet some parameters of the trade to the Eagles last season (as he opted out). Can't imagine he stays on the 49ers roster long.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Well that sucks. Only a 7th rounder, but still.

Maybe the 49ers try and trade Goodwin again to recoup the pick. He's on not much more than the vet minimum, so not a big issue carrying him for now.

    2. Goodwin will be released most likely.
