Back To The Bay?

Adam Schefter is reporting that Vita Vea has requested a trade from the Bucs. From a source: he wants to go to a California team (Vea attended high school 6 miles from Levi's Stadium) or the Raiders. Should Lynch make the move and what would it cost?

  1. Vea is scheduled to earn $18 million this season on his current deal. He did not participate in the spring program with the Buccaneers.

  2. #! would he fit Morris's scheme.
    #2 what would it cost?
#3 would he just be a 1 year rental?
    I think I would lean 80/20 no

    1. He'd fit.
      Good question.
They'd likely need to give him a new deal. He grew up a diehard Niners fan. He wanted them to draft him really bad.

  3. I'd like the signing considering the amount of interior push he gets in addition to how hard he is to run against. The real question is how you can structure his cap hits to determine if its worth it.

    1. Its not a signing it is a trade. How much do you think they should give up for him?

  4. Coach,
I wonder what the Bucs would be asking for in a trade and what the 49ers are willing to give.

    1. I think you might be able to get him for a 3rd round pick because the team that gets him will need to give him a new contract.💵

    2. If they can get him for a 3rd they should jump on it. I think it is more likely that they would have to give up a 1st or a 2nd and 4th. If he is still available at or near the trade deadline I think they could land him with a 3rd.

  5. One 49ers analyst believes that the Bucs will ask for a #1 pick and Vita will likely come in with a 20mil asking price.
This seems a little high for me, but Vea is 31 yrs old and still a very good space eater.
But, Vea wants to play for a team in the West which includes a lot of teams to chose from.

  6. I don't see a team giving up a 1st for him.

  7. Some are assuming that Vea would prefer the 49ers because he played high school football near where Levi's Stadium is now and some of his family still lives in the area as well. My take is that he's going to the team that offers him the best deal.

  8. Vea had numerous ties to the 49ers in the run up to the draft.

Keep in mind that the '27 draft picks are the most valuable they've been in years. A lot of high-end talent.

When Vita Vea's family migrated from Tonga, they settled in Milpitas. Vita was born in and went to school in Milpitas.
      * For those not familiar with the bay area, Milpitas is located at the S. E. end of the SF bay, approximately 4 to 5 miles from Levi Stadium.

  9. Agree. I can't see the 49ers giving up their #1 pick in 27 for the same reason you mentioned. It's going to be a very solid draft class next year.

  10. This is a tough one for me. Trading for Vea is a bit of an "all in" move.

They have a heap of cap space, but they need it to roll over for future years. Bringing in a guy on $20M will significantly dent what they can do in the future.

But... he'd make the DL really strong this year. If they genuinely think they are a Vita Vea away from a SB... would be hard to not at least try to get him.

    1. Given what the Rams have done and the fact that the 49ers stars are relatively old, I think you have to go "all in". I think they are a strong player away from the SB. On paper, the offense could be the top offense in the NFC West and by extension top 3 in the NFL. But the Squawks and Lambs defenses are very, very good and we need to keep pace.

My concern with Vita is, if the Rams signed him!

    1. For this year, for sure. They have heaps of cap space this year. Long term implications though I'm not sure. I think it would make for some pretty tough decisions in the next year or two.

  12. The 9ers are signing former Dolphins defender Quinton Bell.
IMO, he fits the body type DC Morris is looking for to walk down from his linebacker depth to incorporate 5-man fronts.
    * Looking forward to seeing the changes Morris will add to the 9er D.

  13. I wouldn't think cap is an issue when you're a team that lives in the void.

  14. The 49ers are signing DE KJ Henry after a workout today. Henry, a fifth-round pick of the Commanders in 2023, was with the Steelers in the spring and now heads to camp in Santa Clara with the injury to Farmer.

  15. For those interested: 9ers HC Kyle Shanahan clarifies the details of his accident on July 14
According to the California Crash Reporting System database — Case ID 5249308 — Shanahan was allegedly holding and using his cell phone prior to the crash. Still, Shanahan was not considered at fault. It was determined that the 21-year-old woman driving made an unsafe turn, which resulted in the crash. Both airbags were deployed.
The state of California prohibits holding and operating a cell phone while driving, according to Vehicle Code 23123.5(a), but Shanahan was not cited.

  16. The 49ers are signing LB Quinton Bell to a one-year contract, per Adam Schefter.

  17. I don’t think they need him, and I don’t think they need Bosa or Crosby either. Barring injuries, this is a really good football team. They only have one job to correct: stop the run. If they can do that, they’ll go a long way in the playoffs.

  18. Kyle Shanahan says car crash was his fault, accident report was wrong!
    * 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan wanted to make clear he was at fault for the car accident that left him with serious injuries two weeks ago.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the crash, Shanahan spent about 30 minutes with a handful of Bay Area reporters speaking about a California Highway Patrol collision report that he says erroneously assigned blame to a 21-year-old woman for the accident.
"I hit her," Shanahan said Tuesday. "I don't know why it was reported that way [on the collision report database]. The police report doesn't say that."

  19. Scooter,
The Rams signed Myles Garrett that puts them on a sure path deep into the playoffs. If they sign Vea, it makes them a sure fire SB contender. With the 49ers still counting on aging stars and many of them coming back from injury, it makes me think that the 49ers may not have a choice, but to make a strong pitch for Vita, imho.

    1. That's the big question they need to answer internally - do they see this as now or never?

I think they've done a good job drafting the past 3 years, though jury still out on how well. But if the players turn out as well as I expect that creates a new window of opportunity in the coming years. Giving up draft capital and future cap flexibility would hinder that to some degree.

But for many of the aging stars on the roster they don't have a lot of time left to wait... so could well be a case of just going for it and let the chips fall.
