Would've liked him better at 58 but I think we got our answer on Morris' input. Typical 49ers don't give two **cks about where they draft a kid as long as they believe in him and the fit.
That is definitely their MO. But that's some very useful players they are passing up to get a guy that probably could and should have been taken later.
I think the most frustrating part of taking Stribling at 33 is that they had offers to move down. Was Stribling really going to go ahead of whatever pick they could have moved to? And if he did... was he really ranked that far ahead of their next guy?
I agree Stribling was taken too early, but I have also said I don't see much difference in the talent from the lower part of the first round to the fourth round. Stribling is also a better prospect than you are making him out to be. My grade on the pick is a B+. There were some better options at 33, but the 49ers drafted a WR who fits what they need on offense.
Dieter is saying there is no chance Stribling was going to last to 58. Which tbf, aligns with what Brugler said April 17 - that he was a certain top 64 guy and only question was how high.
Third and De'Zhaun?? De'Zhaun Stribling caught 61% of his third-down targets over his collegiate career while averaging 13.8 yards per reception on third down.
I seem to be in the minority here but I am not impressed with the Stribling pick for a number of reasons. #1 I think their need at G or Edge was much bigger than their need at WR. #2 I think this pick was a big reach. It was rumored that they had multiple trade offers for their pick and I believe they could have moved back 10 spots and still landed Stribling. This pick reminds me of the Pearsall pick. I hope I am wrong but I give this pick a C-
I'm not as high on Slaughter as you but yea, I'm just saying it hasn't worked out for him up front. Same goes for Andy Reid. He's done the same thing and still hasn't figured it out. I guess not everyone can have a Chris Foerster.🤷
I'm not as big a fan of Height. Didn't do much until his age 24 year, playing opposite Bailrey, largely against not great opponents. He's twitchy and fast, but can be hard to win as a pass rusher in the NFL without being able to threaten power. Will have to see how it translates.
Nice spin move and closing speed. Not concerned about the age as much as his lack of play recognition. Must be something about the man they liked on his visit.
Romello was PFF's love child when it came to qb hunting: Overall: 92.5 (elite) Pass rush: 92.6 (elite) True pass set: 91.2 (elite) Pass rush win rate: 21.8% (elite)
Romello Height was 2nd among all EDGE rushers in this draft in win percentage at 22.5 percent, slightly behind Rueben Bain Jr.'s 22.9%. Height was 3rd in quick pressure % and 4th in pressure %.
On Romello Height's tight-end coverage, taken from my browser's AI program, apologies for that:
"Romello Height possesses rare coverage versatility for an edge rusher, a trait that significantly boosts his NFL Draft profile. Analysts highlight his comfort dropping into zone coverage and his ability to effectively carry tight ends vertically without appearing out of position.
Elite Grades: In his final season at Texas Tech, Height earned a 92.4 PFF coverage grade, tying for third nationally among all players and ranking as the highest among edge defenders.
Lateral Agility: His exceptional change-of-direction skills allow him to glide across formations, beat tackles laterally, and disrupt throwing windows.
Tactical Value: This ability makes him a valuable sub-package weapon for defensive coordinators, allowing them to deploy him in obvious passing situations where he can confuse offensive protections.
Career Consistency: He demonstrated this skill set across multiple programs, including a 92.5 PFF coverage grade at Georgia Tech, which was the second-best among FBS edge rushers that season."
He is a hell of a RB but KS keeps McCaffery on the field because his RB2s have not been great pass catchers. Black is not a receiver at all. Will KS use him 20% to 30% of the time?
Hi everyone. Haven't been back for awhile but watching draft and have to say I'm disappointed with the picks so far, especially the lack of any offensive line or defensive back picks. Not sure what the thinking behind that is. Anyway, that is my take so far.
Well, 49ers have definitely said to heck with consensus this draft. We'll find out over the next few years if they're right.
But what I will say, this is a bad draft overall. Good year to not be beholden to consensus, because consensus likely will be more wrong than right this year.
Looking at his highlights, he's fun to watch. He runs like James but is faster. And before Indiana, James Madison did use him in their passing game. Also he's praised for his vision and pass protection. But why pick him in the third round? Maybe in the back of their minds they're terrified of CMC tearing something and want more insurance. If I were them, I'd have nightmares about it.
My two cents: -LG/FS may come tomorrow but it's possible they've already decided Jones or Colby will start at LG. Likewise Sigle at FS. -Black does look like he can play at this level. Sure, time will tell.
Pass rush win rates (true pass sets) of Day 2 edge rushers
ReplyDeleteDerrick Moore: 36.0
R Mason Thomas: 35.1
Joshua Josephs: 34.8
Cashius Howell: 28.8
Romello Height: 28.0
T.J. Parker: 27.4
Keyron Crawford: 27.0
Zion Young: 25.6
Gabe Jacas: 24.1
Rumours are yhe 49ers have received offers for 33, but so far nothing sufficient to get them to move.
ReplyDeleteDe'Zhaun Stribling
ReplyDeleteLol! He was in my all underrated draft. Really like him. Don't like him at 33 though.
DeleteWould've liked him better at 58 but I think we got our answer on Morris' input. Typical 49ers don't give two **cks about where they draft a kid as long as they believe in him and the fit.
DeleteThat is definitely their MO. But that's some very useful players they are passing up to get a guy that probably could and should have been taken later.
DeleteI had him going to the 49ers in the fourth round in the mock I wasn't able to finish. His profile fits what the 49ers want at WR.
DeleteLike Scooter, I had Stribling late 2nd round.
DeleteRazor - exactly, I think it should be that way.
DeletePhysicality paired with size and speed is what you get with Stribling.
DeleteWR De'Zhaun Stribling at pick 33.
ReplyDeleteI like Stribling, but not at pick 33.
ReplyDeleteA surprise. But I like him.
ReplyDeleteStribling is a blocking machine too. Didn't think he'd go that high, but I knew he'd be a player of interest.
ReplyDeleteYeah, exactly. I said a month or so ago I didn't understand why he was so far down the consensus boards. I had him as a late 2nd/ early 3rd.
DeleteYep, I was sold after one play where he put his man into the ground. I got the sense he might have had a smile on his face too just like Kittle.
DeleteReach at 33, but a good fit. Lets go!
ReplyDeleteStribling has experience across three conferences with elite run blocking and speed. Zero fumbles and a 2% drop rate. Pretty fresh and so clean.
ReplyDeleteProductive since his freshman year. Really never understood how he was slept on.
DeleteHe's also considered one of the top run blockers in this year's WR class.
Delete7.3 YAC yards per catch.
DeleteI brought up Stribling's name back in March, but I saw him in the late 2nd to mid 3rd range. But, you guys are right, he was being slept on.
Delete👊
DeleteIf they don't go edge with their next pick I think we might see a J. Bosa signing
ReplyDeleteThey got the cap room.
DeleteI think the most frustrating part of taking Stribling at 33 is that they had offers to move down. Was Stribling really going to go ahead of whatever pick they could have moved to? And if he did... was he really ranked that far ahead of their next guy?
ReplyDeleteLikely questions that get answered at their next presser.
DeleteSo apparently the Rams really wanted him.
DeleteIf he's serious about his craft, he could be a diet coke version of TO.
DeleteBlocking by the WR is very important to the Niners.
DeleteNah, Jerry Rice. 🙂
DeleteThe Rams draft thus far has been a nightmare.💀
DeleteDee Winters trade to the Cowboys
ReplyDeleteI figured he'd get traded. Made too much sense.
DeleteWondered when that would happen.
DeletePick 152.
DeleteI wonder if one of these later picks will be used to move up from 58?
If the opportunity presents itself, Scooter and it lines up with their guy, absolutely!
DeleteI agree Stribling was taken too early, but I have also said I don't see much difference in the talent from the lower part of the first round to the fourth round. Stribling is also a better prospect than you are making him out to be. My grade on the pick is a B+. ReplyDeleteThis comment was a response to the deleted post by the Seb impersonator.
DeleteNiners back in the 2nd round?
ReplyDeleteUnder - We have the 26th pick in the 2nd round. Pick 58.
DeleteHopefully it is Edge (Jacas). That is the biggest need IMO
Thanks Mug must have been having a senior moment.
DeleteNah Don't think that! You're an inspiration with all your White Water Rafting and Jungle livin' :)
DeleteDieter is saying there is no chance Stribling was going to last to 58. Which tbf, aligns with what Brugler said April 17 - that he was a certain top 64 guy and only question was how high.
ReplyDeleteHe rose like Lazurus just like Lawrence!🐦🔥
DeleteSounds like Stribling is the anti-Aiyuk, personality wise.
ReplyDeleteThat's encouraging. Only knock on him I can find is a few 35 yard games.
DeletePer Jeff Deeney.
ReplyDeleteThird and De'Zhaun?? De'Zhaun Stribling caught 61% of his third-down targets over his collegiate career while averaging 13.8 yards per reception on third down.
😂
DeleteScooter,
Delete😉Nice.
Honestly not shocked to see McNeil-Warren still available.
ReplyDeleteAgreed Scooter.
DeleteTiernan, Dunker, Barham, Height or Onyenim at 58?
ReplyDeleteMy guess is Mike Washington. You know Shanny will love him.
DeleteOh, the meltdown that will ensue!🫠
Delete🤣

ReplyDeleteI tried to tell you WR first. Would've likely been Concepcion had he not been taken.
DeleteNah, it would've been safety Theineman had he still been there. They traded shortly after he came off the board.
DeleteThey've never drafted a safety higher than round 3, lmao.
DeleteTrue, but the trade shortly after Thieneman came off the board indicates he was most likely the one they planned to draft.
DeleteNot to me it doesn't but it'll come out soon enough.
DeleteI don't think they planned to draft Thieneman. I think he was the last guy to go that they would have stayed at 27 for.
DeleteBoerkircher I liked a lot but he went way higher. I had him in Round 4.
ReplyDeleteAnother trade.
ReplyDeleteIs this the start of a run on Centers?
ReplyDeleteNiners 58 152 for Browns 70 107.
ReplyDeleteIf they liked Washington at 58 they'll love him at 70.
ReplyDeleteLmao, you can't be mad, right?
Delete🤣
DeleteOle Miss QBs had a 136.7 passer rating when targeting De'Zhaun Stribling last season.
ReplyDeleteJim Harbaugh keeps throwing assets at the OL. How many high picks is that now? Gotta be at least 3, maybe 4?
ReplyDeleteGot a good one though.
DeleteI'm not as high on Slaughter as you but yea, I'm just saying it hasn't worked out for him up front. Same goes for Andy Reid. He's done the same thing and still hasn't figured it out. I guess not everyone can have a Chris Foerster.🤷
DeleteCarson Beck to the Cardinals. He has a personality flaw. Not a fan.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I really liked Onyedim.
ReplyDeleteCrawford is another good one. Ascending player.
ReplyDeleteMarkel Bell is such an Eagles pick.
ReplyDeleteThere's your DPR with a top 30!
ReplyDeleteNeeded an edge. Morris pick.
ReplyDeleteRomello and Morris-ette, lol.
DeleteAs much as I disliked their first pick is equal to how much I love this pick. Now if we can get a G or S with our next pick. I give this pick an A
ReplyDeleteI'm looking at an OG that can play Center too.
DeleteI'm not as big a fan of Height. Didn't do much until his age 24 year, playing opposite Bailrey, largely against not great opponents. He's twitchy and fast, but can be hard to win as a pass rusher in the NFL without being able to threaten power. Will have to see how it translates.
DeleteTbh, I'm more interested in seeing if he plays SAM in base. If he does I like the pick more.
DeleteNice spin move and closing speed. Not concerned about the age as much as his lack of play recognition. Must be something about the man they liked on his visit.
DeleteHahaha. WR, and Edge. Will it be OL next. Hope Dunker is still on the board at 90, but that may be asking to much.
ReplyDeleteDunker would work.
DeleteNot a bad pick with 70. Another B+.
ReplyDeletePackers take McClellan. SOB!
ReplyDeleteFrom Nick Wagoner.
ReplyDeleteDE Romello Height said he "had a feeling" it was going to be the #49ers.
Worth noting: Height said he spent time with LB coach K.J. Wright, not DL coach Kris Kocurek. Would imagine he'll be moved around to different spots.
That's interesting and definitely suggests he'll be playing a bit of LB.
DeleteI got a hunch Kocurek likes Romello's first step.
DeleteIf that's the case Scooter, Height will play the same role Byron Young did for Morris.
ReplyDeleteAnd Walker.
Delete🫵💰
DeleteI'd love to see the 49ers take Keionte Scott at 90 if he lasts that long.
ReplyDeleteYou like him over Muhammad?
DeleteTo play safety, yes.
DeleteYea, or Lewis.
DeleteRomello was PFF's love child when it came to qb hunting:
ReplyDeleteOverall: 92.5 (elite)
Pass rush: 92.6 (elite)
True pass set: 91.2 (elite)
Pass rush win rate: 21.8% (elite)
Playing as s chess piece I am on board. If he's asked to just rush from opposite Bosa I think he'll be underwhelming.
DeletePass rush win rate right below Bain Jr.
DeleteWho did they play?
DeleteHe did well against Lomu, so there's that.
DeleteRomello Height was 2nd among all EDGE rushers in this draft in win percentage at 22.5 percent, slightly behind Rueben Bain Jr.'s 22.9%. Height was 3rd in quick pressure % and 4th in pressure %.
ReplyDeleteI liked Barber. Worked with Staley.
ReplyDeleteOn Romello Height's tight-end coverage, taken from my browser's AI program, apologies for that:
ReplyDelete"Romello Height possesses rare coverage versatility for an edge rusher, a trait that significantly boosts his NFL Draft profile. Analysts highlight his comfort dropping into zone coverage and his ability to effectively carry tight ends vertically without appearing out of position.

Morris liked something about Height. I already know what Kocurek liked, his GTFO.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Tiernan?
ReplyDeleteOr Dunker?
DeleteThere is our annual 3rd round pick, spent on RB! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm much more confident in Black succeeding than Washington.
DeleteDon't like this pick. Hope he doesn't turn out like Trey Sermon/TDP/Guerrendo.
DeleteJonah Coleman was who I thought we will get. Oh well!
Good - much prefer Black over Washington.
ReplyDelete👊
DeleteHe is a hell of a RB but KS keeps McCaffery on the field because his RB2s have not been great pass catchers. Black is not a receiver at all. Will KS use him 20% to 30% of the time?
ReplyDeleteYeah, not what I would have done at 90 for sure. But I was worried it would be Washington, so from that lens glad they went Black.
DeleteBlack 646 yards after contact, 30 missed tackles forced.
ReplyDeleteBlack will be a tough and explosive RB blasting through tackles.
ReplyDeleteCMC/James/Black and an UDFA?
DeleteHi everyone. Haven't been back for awhile but watching draft and have to say I'm disappointed with the picks so far, especially the lack of any
ReplyDeleteoffensive line or defensive back picks. Not sure what the thinking behind that is. Anyway, that is my take so far.

ReplyDeleteBut what I will say, this is a bad draft overall. Good year to not be beholden to consensus, because consensus likely will be more wrong than right this year.
Is Black the best pass pro RB in the draft?
DeleteYes, imo
DeleteI can almost guarantee that in the presser Lynch and Shanahan wax lyrical about speed and character when it comes to the day 2 picks.
ReplyDeleteLooking at his highlights, he's fun to watch. He runs like James but is faster. And before Indiana, James Madison did use him in their passing game. Also he's praised for his vision and pass protection. But why pick him in the third round? Maybe in the back of their minds they're terrified of CMC tearing something and want more insurance. ReplyDeleteCommon sense says the 49ers should draft a LG or FS.
ReplyDeleteKyle Shanahan: Look, another RB prospect we'll be getting rid of by next season! Must...draft...
My two cents:
Delete-LG/FS may come tomorrow but it's possible they've already decided Jones or Colby will start at LG. Likewise Sigle at FS.
-Black does look like he can play at this level. Sure, time will tell.
