DeleteBlack has nice explosion and can squeak through tiny holes. Looks like his pass pro is the best in the class too. I think he has a chance to win #2.
DeleteI don't see much after his initial explosion, and his pass pro is going to be hampered by his small stature in the NFL. As for his ability to squeak through holes, I think it was due more to the OL in front of him in college.
DeleteI like Black. Powerful runner with good burst, and nice pop in his blocking. All those traits will translate.
DeleteMain thing I don't love is he can be impatient. But that seems to be s consistent theme with the RBs Shanahan looks for.
I think his power translates well at the college level but won't at the NFL level due to his size.

DeleteHe's 5'10 but vertical jumped 40 inches, bench pressed 415 pounds and squatted over 500 in the Hoosiers weight room. Kaelon Black was seventh in EPA per rush and positive play rate among backs in this class last year. Also averaged 3.4 yards after contact per attempt.

DeleteOverall I'd give day 2 a C for the 49ers. While I like Stribling and Black, can't ignore that this still feels high for both to me. Let's just say I don't consider either of them to be "value" picks. But, I do also think both guys will be 49ers through at least their rookie contracts, which is to say I think they are pretty high floor guys.
ReplyDeleteHeight was probably the best perceived "value" of the three, but I think also has the highest bust potential. Getting to play as an OLB/ edge hybrid could actually help him, and I would recommend Morris uses a lot of stunts to help him keep bodies off him.
Can't wait to see how they approach tomorrow.
