The 49ers are opting NOT to exercise the $10 million option bonus in Trent Williams’ contract, per Schefter. Williams’ salary cap number now will grow to close to $47 million, but the team is not overly concerned about it, and it still is planning to rework his contract before next month’s NFL Draft.

Updated cap room, $28.9M after the 49ers declined Trent Williams' option bonus, before knowing Kirk & Waitman's terms, still expect a deal to get done with TW.
ReplyDeleteOh well, so much for the artificial deadline. Nothing to be any more concerned about today than yesterday, but sure wish they'd just get it sorted.
ReplyDeleteIf the 49ers are intent on keeping Trent, why wait until April before the draft? Will some current players be cut to make more room to satisfy TWs asking price? Just show a good sign of faith by working out a mutual agreement by taking care of him a.s.a.p.
ReplyDeleteThey're likely working on a new deal right now. As long as they're confident that he'll show up for training camp, there's no reason to not do a deal.
DeleteHopefully they work out a deal but I think this means they draft a LT this year.
DeleteI only see one LT in this draft and that's Lomu.
DeleteMel Kiper is sticking to his guns on the 49ers taking Lomu at 27. I would rate that at 30% potential pick on Lomu.
Delete70% going a different position.
I doubt Lomu makes it that far but if he did, he'd be the ideal candidate to play LG and LT in a couple years.
DeleteJust for fun, decided to do a draft where I only took guys I like more than where they are predicted to go in consensus.
ReplyDelete1. De'Angelo Ponds. Yeah, he's short. Yeah, he'll get beat in the NFL at times because of it. I don't care, he's an elite cover man and as feisty as it comes. Going to be a good one.
2. Keylan Rutledge. Tough, physical mauler that can move. Type of interior OL that tends to be good.
4a. De'Zhaun Stribling. Nice size, good speed and acceleration, nice release package. Been productive since his freshman year. Also an excellent blocker.
4b. Eli Heidenreich. RB/WR that provides nice versatility and toughness, and someone that can replicate some of what CMC provides.
4c. Mikail Kamara. Yeah, he's undersized and lacks length. But he's all effort all day, with nice hand usage and a good first step. Type of guy that's underappreciated for 10 years.
4d. Devan Boykin. Ok, maybe I like Indiana players too much. But again, another guy that plays well above his tools. Instinctive NCB/S that knows where to be and makes stops.
Boykin is being rated too low by the draft gurus in my opinion.
DeleteStribling enjoys blocking as much as Kittle.
DeleteI think all those guys are currently underrated.
DeleteI really like Stribling. Surprised he doesn't get talked about more.
Clemson WR Antonio Williams: 9 REC TDs on 20+ Yard Throws Since 2024
ReplyDeleteT-Most in College Football 🐅💨
My first mock. I am doing this one a little differently. In rounds 1 and 2 I am taking the highest overall rated player from WRs, OL, Edge and S.
ReplyDeleteTrades Pick 133 to Wash for picks 147 and 187
Round 1 Blake Miller OT Clem
Round 2 Gemmie Bernard WR Bama
Rounds 4-6 I added DT and TE to the targeted position
Round 4 #127 Chris McClellan DT Mizz
Round 4 #138 L.T. Overton DE Bama
Round 4 #139 Zakee Wheatley S Penn St
Round 5 #147 Joe Royer TE Cinn
Round 6 #187 Vincent Anthony Jr. Edge Duke
Very nice Coach.
DeleteI don't see Miller as a LT. RT only for me.
DeleteSan Diego State CB Chris Johnson was LOCKDOWN in 2025:

ReplyDelete- listed at 6’5 315
+ high level short area quickness and foot speed for an interior lineman
+ gets underneath defenders and wins the leverage battle despite his height
+ balanced in pass protection, mirrors well once his hands are engaged
+ heavy and accurate hands at the point of attack
+ great puller and move blocker, reaches targets clearly in space
+ stays active throughout the play when unoccupied blocker, picks up work where he can
- hands shoot late against technically refined interior rushers
- below average arm length can cause him to lung and overextend
- hips open early in pass protection, exposes his inside shoulder
- pad level at first contact is inconsistent
- can get walked back by power rushers attacking the middle of his frame
- had 19 flags across 3 seasons of college football
It’s been 3 months 21 days since Jordyn Tyson last played a game.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Dane Brugler, he won’t participate at his Pro Day.
Also sounds like his hamstring may have flared up during his training.
That is quite some time for a grade 2 strain to heal. I'd put him up there with one of the best chances of sliding possibly into the 20's.
Interesting. I still think Tyson is the one guy in the consensus top 3 WRs that Shanahan would be tempted to trade up for if he starts sliding.
DeleteZion Young was timed on Friday during Mizzou's Pro Day with a 40 time in the range of 4.69-4.73. Mizzou EDGE Zion Young will participate in Missouri’s Pro Day and has met with nearly every NFL team, he told Preme Sports.
ReplyDeleteFour round 49ers mock draft via Chad Reuter:
ReplyDelete27: Utah OT Caleb Lomu
58: Notre Dame RB Jadarian Price
127: Mississippi State WR Brenen Thompson
133: Alabama DE LT Overton
138: Boston College OT Jude Bowry
139: Duke CB Chandler Rivers
Dallen Bentley (6’4 253) Utah
ReplyDelete+ Ideal build for a modern TE
+ 9.31 relative athletic score
+ Can block in-line or on the move effectively with great size
+ Breakout season as a receiver in 2025 with over 600 yards and 6 TD’s
+ Zero drops in 2025
+ Physicality as a blocker and in run after catch situations
- Only 3 catches and 20 yards prior to the 2025 season
- Only 4 of 15 in contested catch situations in 2025 (26.7% rate)
- Doesn’t force many missed tackles after the catch
Draft projection: Early Day 3
The 49ers invited Oregon State S Skyler Thomas to their local Pro Day, per Aaron Wilson.
ReplyDeleteMore 24/25 year olds in this draft than any other I can remember. WR, CB & RB matter more to me than the other positions.
ReplyDeleteThere's not many positions where players get better after 30. I don't mind taking older guys after round 2, especially at positions you don't often give 2nd contracts too, but early picks at premium positions (other than maybe QB) on guys that will be 25 as rookies is a no go for me.
DeleteThere's a couple of factors in play (1) giving a 2nd contract to guy entering his 30s always adds risk, so you may only get 1 good contract out of them (2) how much of their college success came from being a grown man playing against kids?
I agree^
DeleteIf the Niners don't sign TW
ReplyDelete27 Caleb Lomu, LT
58 Emmanuel Pregnon, LG (doubt he last that long)
If Kittles injury takes longer to come back from than expected how good can Tonges be?
ReplyDeleteJuice will pick up any slack.
DeleteThe 49ers met with Memphis OT Travis Burke at his Pro Day, per Tony Pauline.
ReplyDelete49ers have a type. Reminds me of Nick Zakelj.
DeleteAnother standout performance: BYU CB Mory Bamba was clocked as low as a 4.19 40-yard dash at Pro Day this week, I’m told.
ReplyDeleteThe school listed Bamba at a 4.27u, though that result was also hand-timed.
Washington OL Carver Willis has shown terrific versatility throughout the pre-draft process. NFL scouts believe he could have 5-position versatility. He's been in demand, with 30 visits and virtual meetings. Reminds me of Spencer Burford....
ReplyDeleteDevon Marshall (5’10 197) NC State

- Has played almost exclusively at left tackle
- Connecting with his target when asked to pull
- Allows defenders into his chest
- 51.7 run blocking grade in 2025
Draft projection: Day 3
Outside of the strong desire many have to see the team draft an OT, what is the reason to actually take one this year? It's a pretty crappy OT class relative to other years. Not a great top end, not a lot of depth.
ReplyDeleteAnd assuming they work a deal out with Trent they already have their 4 OTs.
Doesn't matter to those who want to see them draft OT. They think all they have to do is draft one in Round 1 and all things will be right in the universe. Ask the Chargers how that's worked out for them.
DeleteScooter,
DeleteIf they sign Williams the only reason they might draft an OT in the first 2 rounds is that they could move him inside until TW retires. Signing TW is a must if that some how falls through they could end up a sub .500 team. My biggest fear other than not signing TW is that they don't sign/draft an IOL and settle for starting Toth.
There is no "settle" for a starter. It is earned and if Toth earns it, I don't see the issue.
DeleteI think it is "settling" if they don't provide Toth with legitimate competition at the position. As the roster is constructed right now I don't see any legitimate competition.
DeleteCoach, I get the why in terms of how it could fit and the desire to have someone waiting in the wings to replace TW.
DeleteWhat I don't get is the why in a class that is as low on both top end talent and depth as this one? Why force a pick on an OT this year of all years, especially when you already have 4 OTs on the roster your comfortable going into the season with?
Yes, they should add an OG. Good news is the iOL group is better than the OT class this year. But I wouldn't be trying to find TWs replacement, I'd just be looking to get an OG. Maybe one that can take over from Brendel down the line.
Look for an offensive lineman with versatility. Can play all 5 in a pinch. That's where I think they go day 3.
DeleteThere will be plenty of competition for LG. Just not the $15M dollar kind. May the best man win.
DeleteAll 5 is pretty limiting. But they do like converting college OTs to OG.
DeleteTrost would do nicely Round 4.
DeleteOr JC Davis
DeleteCarver Willis?
DeleteYeah, he's another. There's a lot of college OTs that profile as OGs in this draft.
DeleteJosh Cuevas (6’3 245) Alabama
ReplyDelete+ Work ethic to go from a walk-on at Cal Poly to a starter at Alabama
+ 77.9 pass blocking grade
+ Alignment versatility and was originally a wide receiver at Cal Poly
+ Effective route runner
+ Impressed at the Senior Bowl
+ Most productive season as a receiver came in 2025 with 411 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns
+ Ran a 4.65 40-yard dash
+ Strong hands
- 36.4% career contested catch rate
- Maintaining blocks and showing more physicality at the point of contact as a run blocker

- 7.5% drop rate in 2025
- Only 30 5/8” arm length
Draft projection: 4th/5th round
Oscar Delp highlights that focus on his pass catching:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W4Y_R9-S6I
Is someone going to make him a day 2 pick?
Possible but it would surprise me.
DeleteThanks.
DeleteAnother question: Re the Trent situation, Lomu might not be there when they pick and even if he is I’ve read from Zierlein that he’s at least a year away. What if Trent threatens to hold out? Who’s on the roster they can start at LT? Might there be a trade in the works for a starting calibre player?
Why would it surprise you, razor? After Sadiq and Stowers, looks like it's viewers choice on the 3rd best TE. I think s lit of teams will see untapped potential in Delp. Could easily see him as s day 2 pick.
DeleteI've got the following TE's I like better than Delp in order:
DeleteRoush
Boerkircher
Eli Raridon
Sure, but I could understand a team liking the traits on Delp more. Not a great TE group, so could see a team look at traits over production after the first 2 guys go.
DeleteProbably right.
DeleteI'm looking for a "Y" Day 3.

Did anyone else see Cam Skattebo saying that CTE is fake and just an excuse for soft players. He also said asthma is fake. I am so happy the 49ers didn't draft this meat head
ReplyDeleteI seen that. He made a retraction. No, I didn't like him in the draft.
DeleteThis guy was banging head wearing his helmet against a brick wall. The last guy I saw doing something dumb along this line was Bears QB Jim McMahon banging helmets with his teammates. Of course, he didn't have his helmet on 😵💫
