BOOM!!!

A splash in the Bay: The #49ers are signing future Hall of Fame WR Mike Evans, agents and Darren Jones tell The Insiders. Evans leaves the #Bucs for a 3-year deal after all, giving Brock Purdy a big-time weapon.

  1. That's a big time move, good deal.

    1. He was my #1 priority in F/A. I thought it was a no brainer EARLY in the process.

  2. My guess, it’s north of 25 million per year on 2 year deal

    1. 3 yrs @ 36M is what I'm hearing.

    2. $13 Mil AAV is inline with Spotrac projected Market Value of $13.3 Mil to $13.5 Mil AAV.
Is free agent WR Romeo Doubs next?

    4. Signing NFL free agent WR Mike Evans should help boost the 9ers red zone efficiency.

Yes! You're correct...The $13 Mil AAV is incorrect! The 9ers have signed Evans to a 3 year $60.4 Mil deal per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

  4. I doubt the 49ers are done at WR. I look for them to sign another one.

    1. I agree but now they can concentrate on either an edge or OT for the 1st pick.

Free agent WR Romeo Doubs would be an excellent 9er fit, after signing Evans. Good foot quickness and ability to work the middle of the field on in-breaking routes. Has strong hands to finish through contact and excellent focus on deep-field balls. The question is, what will it cost to sign him?

  5. I love Mike Evans signing... only caveat is health and if his body can take a 17 game season.

Evans signing with us shows Brock is easily a Top 10 QB.

    2. I wonder how this impacts JJ.

    3. IMO, he replaces everything JJ contributed to the team and much more. High reward - medium risk (only because of injury history) signing at a reasonable cost. I like it.

It's possible that JJ could be back, but it would be at about what he was paid in 2025, if not lower.

True, but he'd be insurance if Evans gets injured. Chances are zero the 9ers resign him, if he wants $20+ Mil per year.

  7. Over 100 career touchdowns just walked into Kyle Shanahan's offense.

  8. Evans is a great signing. He instantly gives them a downfield target to stretch defenses and a RZ target. Both were needs.

    1. Not to mention how he will impact the young WRs. Who was the last experienced, really professional WR that we had (Sanders??). Maybe if we had had someone like that, BA might have turned out differently. Maybe part of the problem with him is that he didn't have a good mentor to help him transition from college and learn to be a professional. Moot point now, of course.

  9. While I like the signing. The 3yr contract does give me pause. I'm not sure which Mike Evans the 49ers are getting. Are they getting a WR with many seasons of 1k receiving yards or a WR that missed 9 games last season due to a rash of injuries. If he can stay healthy the signing will be great. But, his age may be a reason for his injuries as well.
    TBD

    1. I think it will basically be a series of 1 year deals they can get out of after 1-2 years.

  10. Ian Rapoport is reporting that the 49ers are shopping T. Williams. The Chiefs are rumored to be offering a conditional 6th round pick in the 27 draft

  11. The Chiefs proposition (if true) is a flat-out insult.

  12. 49ers have added OT Vederian Lowe, 2 years, $12M. New swing OT with starting experience.

Well... let's hope he's just the swing OT, anyway!

    1. With one of their 4th Rd comp picks, I'd like to see the 9ers draft Harold Perkins, LB LSU.
      * Elite closing speed and "heat-seeking missile" pursuit range. Exceptional versatility, having played off-ball linebacker, edge rusher, and the "STAR" (big nickel) position. He is a dynamic blitzer with natural bend and a high motor.

      Delete
    2. A second 4th round draft pick i'd like to see the 9ers draft
Keyron Crawford, EDGE Auburn. * A twitchy, high-energy 6'4", 255-lb EDGE prospect from Auburn with upside and possesses impressive athletic traits, including good bend and a solid pass-rush arsenal, featuring a strong two-hand swipe-and-chop move.
Led Auburn in pressures (43) and ranked 4th in the SEC in 2025. Experienced in dropping into coverage from the Morris' star position and moving up in a 5 man front. Physical enough to re-route tight ends.

  14. 49ers new OT Vederian Lowe’s stats for 2025:

    • 165 pass-blocking opportunities
    • 1 sack allowed
    • 15 pressures allowed
    • 95.2 pass-block efficiency
    • 67.1 pass-block grade
    • 56.8 run-block grade

  15. I'd be checking what it would take to get Jackson Powers-Johnson from the Raiders. Let him compete to play LG for now, slide over to C in the future.

  16. Zierlein when Lowe came out in 2022. He graded him a 6.00,
Traits or talent to be above-average backup.:

    Overview
Offensive line prospect who checks multiple boxes in both the traits and intangibles categories. Evaluators are sure to love Lowe's personal character as well as his measurables. He's big, strong and long but needs to play with better hand accuracy and technique to fully unlock those traits. Bend and athleticism are both strengths for Lowe, who is a scheme-independent talent. He's allowed too many pressures and sacks during his career but has the tools for rapid improvement with a few coaching fixes. Lowe is worthy of middle-round consideration as a swing tackle with guard potential.

    Strengths
    Big, strong and durable.
Praised for character, maturity and leadership.
    Bendy with adequate lateral quickness.
Makes athletic adjustments on the move.
Runs feet to stick and wash down opponents as zone blocker.
Rips pass punch into opponent with snap.
Maintains separation with length and hand resets.
    Above-average recovery athleticism.
    Weaknesses
Pad level rises a little tall out of his stance.
Leans and drops helmet into contact.
Lacks crisp, accurate block entry with his hands.
Doesn't bring feet under him, hindering sustain attempts.
Needs better play-side landmarks on stretch plays.
Punch is stiff but can ride a little too high.
Post foot deadens when sliding to inside counters.
Needs to sit down and find footing to anchor.
Struggles to create consistent firmness with his outside edge.

  17. Kendrick Bourne signs with Ariz

  18. LB Kaleb Elarms-Orr
    6-foot-2, 234.
Ideal athletic profile (4.47s 40, 40" Vert) with the size to function as a Stacked linebacker. Fluent in pattern-match coverages; uses smooth, controlled angles to carry receivers vertically and spaces route layers with high-level processing. Patient run defender who lets blocks develop and reads RB intentions with discipline. While a smooth mover in space, he lacks a throttle response, high end change of direction; must assert his physicality and anchor to prevent being displaced by blockers, and wrap up more consistently.

  19. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Denver Broncos are releasing linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
Don't know if it is injury related, but the 9ers should be interested in finding out why Denver cut him.
