Bradley Chubb looks like the most likely trade target.
ReplyDeleteI don't see any individual out there that can make this team a SB team. Defense wins championship and the Niners defense is far from winning. Let's hope 2026 is a healthier year. With Williams going down it's almost assured that the Niners draft a defensive lineman with their first pick.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
DeleteUC,
ReplyDeleteFelix also noted this yesterday and I'm starting to lean the same way. There are no Myles Garrett's or Max Crosby's available that could make an immediate impact. Chubb could be a nice pickup but definitely not a game changer. The Rams and Seattle could keep the 49ers in 3rd place which likely means missing the playoffs. Personally, I would not play Purdy until next season and start to study which player to potentially draft between 15-20 and beyond.
Personally, I would not play Purdy until next season...
DeleteI was thinking much the same. You, I, and Old Coach have the same problem...we are running out 'next years'.
of 'next years'
DeleteBuffalo LB Red Murdock just recorded his 17th career forced fumble to break Khalil Mack's FBS record over the weekend. He's led the country in FFs each of the past 3 seasons. Could be another 5th round gem.
ReplyDeleteCashius Howell, Leo, Texas A&M is a player to keep an eye on. He's most likely to be available late 1st Round (20's). He needs to show improved play strength/power to fully sell me but the other traits are there.
UC,
ReplyDeleteIf you are making a reference regarding our ages, you are on to something with "running out of next year's" lol.
But, unless the 49ers miraculously receive super powers they may have to fight off Arizona
to remain in 3rd place in the division. I thought that this years draft was of major importance. Now, it looks like next year's draft will need to be even better.
AES - yup, age. lol
DeleteSauce Gardner to the Colts!
ReplyDeleteThe Colts are sending their 1st round picks in 2026 and 2027 plus a player. 👀
DeleteWow! Two #1's in consecutive years seems high for me. But the Colts obviously see themselves as a SB team with Gardner being the missing piece. Big gamble, but bold.
DeleteNo way in hell a cb is worth two 1's to me.
DeleteSaints are trading WR Rashid Shaheed to the Seahawks, per Schefter.
ReplyDeleteSeahawks are trending up. But will Darnold's cape fall off in the playoffs again?
ReplyDeleteTrade compensation: Seahawks are sending 2026 fourth- and fifth-round picks to the Saints in exchange for WR Rashid Shaheed.
DeletePurdy's proven in the playoffs. Darnold? Not so much.
Quinnen Williams to Cowboys for 1st round pick!
ReplyDeleteThey haven't been great drafting DL.
DeleteI still don't see the 49ers making any notable trades before the deadline
ReplyDeleteI now tend to agree, Scooter.
ReplyDeleteI never did either.
ReplyDeleteThe rash of injuries across the league at the position inflated market value.
ReplyDeleteGonna be Arden Key or similar type player if any.
ReplyDelete3 minutes to go and still no trades
ReplyDeleteNope. Good. Let's roll with what we got.
ReplyDeleteYep. My guess is Ferrell gets elevated to the 53 once Mykel goes to IR, and Alex Barrett comes back on the PS.
DeletePerhaps, we should view new players signings thru the lens of Demarcus Robinson, Huff, Brian Robinson, and Mac Jones.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the best move is no move at all.
ReplyDeleteWe already did 4 trades for this year, so I'm glad sanity prevailed and we didn't get carried away and overspend. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year with the theme "Younger and Cheaper".
ReplyDeleteThe way I look at it ....Purdy, Aiyuk and Pearsall are going to be the new additions for November. Goal should be to get 4 wins out of 8 remaining and get to playoffs.
I'm hoping the rest of the teams in the NFC North and NFC West kill each other.
The 49ers keep their 2026 draft intact by holding the line on any potential trades today. Now, it's time to position themselves for 2026.
ReplyDeletePicking between 15-20 in the 1st rd could be they're sweet spot.
I somewhat disagree there. Absolutely no reason to be thinking about positioning for the 2026 draft at this point. Still right in the thick of the fight for both the division title and wildcard spots. 2025 is still very much the focus.
DeleteCorrect. But my 15-20 sweet spot drafting prediction is based on the uptrend of teams in our division like the Rams and Seattle that are rolling right now. I'm in no way giving up on the season until the 49ers are officially out of the post season. But, a potential 3rd place finish in the division likely keeps them from making the playoffs and likely puts them in the 15-20 drafting ratio.
DeleteFair enough. I think three teams from the NFC West making the playoffs is quite feasible. At the moment it really only looks like the West and North will be providing wildcards, unless you believe the Panthers can continue making a run. Which means one of those divisions is providing 2 wildcards.
DeleteI'll worry about 2026 if and when they are no longer in contention in 2025.
Good point, Scooter.
DeleteI am beginning to think there is more to the Brandon Aiyuk story that's never been told. Does he return this year? Does he ever play ball again? Is he in the Niner doghouse again?
ReplyDeleteI think the story is he had an absolutely devastating knee injury, not dissimilar to NaVorro Bowman's. Bowman missed all of 2014 and returned to practice in 2015 minicamp with a knee brace and has since said how hard it was physically on him that year, especially through camp. If Aiyuk returns at any point this season it will be sooner than Bowman's timeline to returning to practice.
DeleteNot sure if a WR can wear a brace or a sleeve for that matter.
DeleteYep. Imo I don't think it is likely he returns this year. And will be an uphill battle for him to ever return to the same level of play as pre-injury.
DeleteI concur. Anything from Aiyuk this year was gonna be a bonus. Didn't expect to see anything from him this year and wouldn't be surprised in the least if he retires next season.
DeleteThe best way to prevent an ACL tear is through a dedicated training program that focuses on proper form, strength, and neuromuscular control.
ReplyDeleteAfter the trade deadline is over and all is said and done...The 9ers beating the Rams this Sun.(11/09) and Arizona next Sun (11/16,) will go a long way in determining their success at making the playoffs.
ReplyDelete* If the 9ers beat both the Rams and Arizona, they'll be 8W - 3L
* If they split with the Rams and Arizona, they'll be 7W - 4L with the
following schedule.
Nov 24th 9ers at home VS the Panthers 9er WIN!
Nov 30th 9ers VS the Browns at the last place Browns. 9ers WIN!
Dec 7th 9er BYE
Dec 14th 9ers at home VS last place Titans 9ers WIN!
Dec 22nd 9ers VS the Colts at the colts. 9ers LOSE!
Dec 28th 9ers VS the Bears at the Bears. 9ers LOSE due to weather
Jan 4th 9ers at home VS Seattle 9er WIN. The winner could well
determine if the 9ers win the division or are a wildcard.....TBD
Then why didn't they go after a player -- Cohn is suggesting Quinnen Williams of the Jets -- that could have helped ensure some of these wins and definitely put them in the hunt for a SB this year and for several years to come??? Lest anyone on this blog forget, it's been 30 years, 30 years!, since the Niners last won a Super Bowl, for goodness sakes, and that was with Eddie D, not the Yorks.
DeleteFeel free to go hang out with your buddy Grant and leave us alone.
DeleteFWIW, what makes you think they didn't go after Q Williams? All we know is they weren't prepared to pay more than the Cowboys did.
The cowboys gave up a player, a 1st and a 2nd round pick to get Williams for 1.5 seasons. Since the Cowboys picks will likely be higher picks than the 49ers it would have probably cost the 49ers 2 first round picks.. Good teams build through the draft. The Williams trade is why the Cowboys aren't very good. Grant Cohn admiring a Jerry Jones move shows you how little Grant knows about football

Rather sorry to have offended. Apologies all around to my fellow 49ers fans. Will be working hard to improve on etiquette and decorum.
DeleteEmmanuel McNeil-Warren, S, Toledo is a player to watch tonight.
ReplyDeleteAnybody else like the Clemson RT, Blake Miller?
ReplyDeleteRE Clemson RT Blake Miller: I have him as a late 2nd to early 3Rd round draft pick that fits KS ZBS. Can play both tackle spots but needs some work on 2nd level blocking.
ReplyDeleteQUESTION FOR THE BLOG:
ReplyDeleteShould the 9ers be interested in signing f/a CB Asante Samuel to a
one year contract?
* Prior to surgery, Samuel was seen as a top F/A CB known for his competitiveness, instinct, and ability to play both outside and slot positions despite being undersized.
* CB Asante Samuel had a spinal fusion procedure this offseason and has been fully cleared to return to the NFL.
* Spotrac projects a market value for a 1 year deal, from $6 to $8 Mil.
Should the 9ers sign him, if he'll sign for $3.5 to $4.5 Mil for the 2nd half of the 2025 season?
Scooter and I both saw Samuel as a fit for this team. Question is would they consider him at Safety?
Delete
DeleteRazor
IMO, he's on the small side (5'10" X 184) for a safety, but maybe? I'd leave up to Saleh to decide....
My question is, where would they play him? As a NB and (replace Stout)? or outside CB (replace Green)? Or a backup for both CB's and NB?
Personally, it's going to depend on how they look against the Rams on Sunday. If the 49ers win or play a close game, a signing could make sense. But if they get blown out then that changes the outlook for them going forward. A lot is riding on Sundays game, imho.
ReplyDeleteI somewhat disagree with thos as well. Win or lose against the Rams shouldn't change whether they look to add Samuel (which imo they should, at the right price).
DeleteAfter the Rams game, the next 4 games are the Cardinals, Panthers, Browns and Titans, all very winnable. They should be doing everything in their power to win at least 3 of the next 5. Should be 9-5 at worst heading into the last 3 games, and ideally sitting at 10+ wins, with the playoffs in their grasp.
The question is can Samuel's be counted on to contribute down the stretch? Coming back from a spinal injury and playing football is not a good mix even if he signs on the cheap.
DeleteThat's a completely separate question and not what you were saying in the original post.
DeleteWhat I would say is that the 49ers wouldn't have to sign Samuel as a guy they need to rely on. They already have starters in place. He's a potential upside/ upgrade signing that at worst offers good depth.
Scooter
DeleteDoes $3 to $4 mil for the 2nd half of the season fit your price range? If several teams get into a bidding war, it could price
him out of the salary range the 9ers are willing to pay.
IMO, anything over $5 Mil the 9ers should walk.
More than I'd pay. FWIW, I highly doubt he goes top the 49ers. Someone will offer him a starting role on pretty good money, and it won't be the 49ers.
DeleteMy reply is in response to your "look to add Sameul (which imo, they should at the right price."
DeleteTo my original text. The Rams and Seattle will not be an easy game to win and the Cards are improving under Brissett. If the 49ers can get past the Rams and Seattle again then the playoffs are clearly in view. But both of those teams are much improved from their last contest. A Rams possible blow-out this weekend could set the tone for the rest of the season. But, I sure wouldn't mind being completely wrong about this.
They can lose to both the Rams and Seahawks, finish 3rd in the West, and still have a decent chance to make the playoffs.
DeleteA lot comes down to the 4 week period after the Rams game this week.
Fair response.
DeleteI hope we come out against the Rams like a team ready to take back the division!
ReplyDeleteBeating the Rams would give the 9ers a leg up on winning the division. But if they split, losing to LA and beating Arizona, it
Deletewould make the 9ers 7W - 4L and with 3 winnable games against the Panthers, Browns and Titans and 10W - 4L record.
* Worst case: The 9ers lose the next 2 games to the Colts at the Colts and the Bears at the Bears (due to weather)
* That leaves the 9ers playing the last game of the season against Seattle, at Levi for the wild card (worst case).
* NOTE Seattle plays the Rams at SoFi Nov 16th. The loser will
likely be tied with the 9ers and the Winner the division leader.
However, if the 9ers beat the Rams this Sunday, the 9ers will be the division leader, with the last game of the season VS Seattle at Levi.
The Rams next 7 games are against the 9ers, Seattle, TB, then the Panthers, Arizona, Lions and Seattle again.
GEEP,
DeleteAt the beginning of the season I predicted a 10-11 game winning year. Your first scenario would put them at that target. That would be great.
GEEP,
DeleteWe play the Bears at home. So weather won't be a factor....unless it's raining in Santa Clara and Purdy starts. :)
But I had the Browns game as a loss. We play the previous Monday night and start the Browns game with a 10 AM start. D will be sluggish and moreover, Shanahan has something like a 1-8 career record against Jim Schwartz who is the D Coordinator for Browns.
Let's see how the Rams, Cardinals games go. If we split 1-1 then we should still be on track for playoffs. Too early to start thinking about other games.
Mug
DeleteYou sir are correct...My bad, or should I say, our GOOD, if we're playing the Bears at home? .
RE Browns VS 9ers at Browns: Correct me if I'm wrong, but Giants VS 9er game started at 10:00 and the 9ers played well after the first series! And with six days between the Mon Panther game and the last place Browns game, the 9ers should be ok..But the weather could determine who wins?
GEEP,
DeleteI'm thinking our performance will more closely resemble the Texans game (which was also 10 AM start with 7 days rest). I think KS & RS were embarrassed by Demeco and it caused a bump up in performance against Giants.
Yeah Cleveland Weather is also choppy at this time of the year with the Lake effect in full force.
MUG I believe there is a difference between the Texans and a last place (2W - 6L) Browns team! Look no further than Browns HC Kevin Stefanski, who's being attacked for the team's QB problems and has to be a locker room distraction. Flacco was a mistake and Dillon Gabriel has
Deletenot been any better. Critics, including Browns previous CB, Aqib Talib, suggests Stefanski may have a personal vendetta
against rookie QB Sanders?
I don't see a team this dysfunctional beating the 9ers! But as
they say, "on any given day," so you may be right? TBD.
That would be huge.

Jake Brendel (453 snaps played)

SF OG Spencer Burford is a surprise, but a definite improvement!
ReplyDeleteWe'll need the O-line at its best to beat the Rams.
Burford can play better. That was his knock the rust off game.
ReplyDelete👍
DeleteNiners can win this game if it's low scoring.
ReplyDeletePound the ball........ win TOP and play keep away- get Robinson 10+ carries as well...... play some Man coverage and blitz Stafford- hopefully, Huff is available...
ReplyDeletediptown
DeleteHuff has been cleared to play against the Rams this Sunday.
He was a full participant in Friday's practice and does not have an injury designation for the game.
I've got a feeling that to win this game it will take the offense being able to win a shoot out.
ReplyDeleteThat would be advantage Rams.
DeleteI hope it's not a shoot out I don't think the Niners can keep up.
DeleteNeither do I. But the defense is so banged up and the Rams offense has been clicking in recent weeks. I think the game could get ugly unless the 49ers find a way to keep the score moving.
DeleteIt's total cliche. But the team that wins the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball is the top dog. Now, can the 49ers ever muster a kickoff or PT and a couple of Int's?
ReplyDeleteThey definitely are due.
*punt return*
ReplyDeleteRams clearly concerned about their Special Teams unit. That's where, believe it or not, the 49ers have an advantage.
ReplyDeleteRams just signed a new kicker and long snapper this past week. Is why I am hoping for a low scoring game I think maybe Niners special teams has the advantage.
DeleteNiners #2 Special Teams*
DeleteRams #28 Special Teams

Wow. Indiana U, QB Fernando Mendoza has just put his himself on the college football landscape. I hated to see him leave my beleaguered Cal Bears, but he made the right decision and now he has his team at 10-0 and number 2 in college football.
ReplyDeleteWhat a game! Indiana really lucked into that HC. Indiana went from not given a dink about football to having one of the best programs in the NCAA almost overnight. Crazy!
DeleteOne of my golf buddies is a big booster of the school- pretty cool...... Mendoza was very a good "poach" for the program
DeleteSince both the 9ers and Rams know each other, the winner will be determined by the team that makes the least mistakes, conroles the time of possession and obviously, scores the most points!
ReplyDelete* Saleh has to find a way to get pressure on Rams QB Stafford.
* The Rams will utilize a heavy use of 13 personnel formations to exploit the middle of the 9ers defense and our injury-depleted LB's.
* With the injuries to 9er linebackers, Saleh must adjust the 9er D to handle the Rams' top 2 receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams and prevent them from dictating matchups in the middle of the field.
The Rams O-line blocking is a strength, but their pass protection has not been consistently elite, L-OT Alaric Jackson is the weak link in the Rams pass protection. The Rams IOL are OG's Jonah Jackson, Kevin Dotson, and C Steve Avila. They're large, powerful, and highly effective at run blocking.
* The Rams will also run outside zone plays, trying to exploit the edges of the 9ers D. The 9ers' DE's and LB's must set hard edges, and limit the explosive outside runs by Kyren Williams and Blake Corum. If the 9ers' D tightens up in the red zone, holds the Rams to field goals, instead of TD's, they can beat the Rams. The 9er D will need to control the Rams RB's Williams and Corum, Stop them from scoring TD's and hold the Rams to field goals.
* To beat the Rams, the 9er O-line must protect Jones, give him time to find his receivers, open running lanes for CMC and Robinson when CMC is a WR.
* Use TE Kittle and FB Juszczyk, to successfully block for the 9er RB's and as a receiver to exploit the middle of the field against the Rams' DB's to help sustain drives against a Rams D that ranks high on 3rd downs and in the red zone.
* 9er WR JJ, Bourne, Skyy Moore, Jordan Watkins and TE Jake Tongus
must also step up and contribute for the 9ers to beat the Rams.
* Eddy Piñeiro must continue his perfect record kicking field goals.
I'm going to roll the dice and go with the 9ers with a one point win, 27 to 26, on a walk of field goal by Money Pineiro!
Looks like Valdez will be up for the Rams game. Should prove interesting.
ReplyDeleteYea, I see where he was elevated from the PS, but with DT Alfred Collins, Kalia Davis, and DE Keion White questionable, If Saleh does give him some reps, where does he line up....3T?
ReplyDeleteSeahawks and Rams play next week, a win tomorrow would be huge...
ReplyDelete
