Scooter, Without a doubt Kittle makes a big difference but Atlanta's run D is pretty bad and they lost one of their inside LBs early in the game. I think the Texans will be a much better test of Kittle's effect on the run game. They have the #7 run D in the NFL.
Reading a few reports about the run game this week and sounds like another key factor was changing it up to be far more focused on power/ gap scheme this week.
I predicted a win based on Kittle's run blocking lifting the offense, and Saleh's young defense being able to limit the Falcons' running game followed by use of well-timed blitzes to rattle Penix. It's impressive how well this relatively inexperienced defense is playing. I expect the D to travel well on the next two road games.
Haven't watched the game yet, but man, that's a stark difference. Guess I was wrong - Kittle missing wasn't just a problem, it was THE problem.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, also to my eyes it looked like Hennessey was an upgrade over Brendel. 61 was more consistently with his blocking.

OldCoach, we're missing guys up the ying yang and you're making excuses for Atlanta missing one of their inside LB's? 😂
