  1. Yeah, thought that would be around what they get in return. Better than flat out cutting him.

Now we wait to see what they do with Aiyuk.

  3. Trader John will likely trade some draft picks to get another 1st rd pick. I liked Deebo, but his production took a big hit in 2024. It's time to move on a get younger and faster. I wish Deebo well.

  4. Not clear to me what the impact is on the "cap". Niners Nation is reporting that the Commanders have agreed to take on the remainder of Deebo's contract.

    1. 49ers take on around $31M in dead cap this year. Approximately $15M more against the cap than if he stayed/ what he was currently scheduled to count against the cap this year.

      Delete
    2. How can that be when NN is reporting that WA has agreed to pay $17.55 million salary for 2025. Shouldn't the remaining dead cap now be around $14 million?

      Delete
    3. The $31.5M is the prorated bonus money that has already been paid to Deebo but is yet to be accrued against the cap. The 49ers will have that accrue against the cap this year.

Deebo will be paid $17.55M for the 2025 season, which now the Commanders will be paying.

    4. So, no opportunity to spread the dead cap out over two years?

      Delete
    5. No, the $31M all gets accounted against the cap this year. But as I outlined in my discussion with razor on this yesterday, it's not a big deal. They can push other players cap hit out to absorb bringing this forward.

  5. See ya Deebo, a fun player to watch.

  6. Landon Jackson is a weird evaluation due to him predominantly playing 4i and not doing a particularly good job. On the other hand, when he's on the edge and from a 2-point stance he's really good.🙃

  8. Top 10-yd splits for the 1st OL group — a good indicator of a players ability to get off the ball and into space:

    • Joshua Gray (Oregon State): 1.73
    • Logan Brown (Kansas): 1.75
    • Aireontae Ersery (Minnesota): 1.75

  9. Armand Membou is looking pretty good at 11 right now.

    1. Foerster might say get the skill player, Matthew Golden.

      Delete
    2. Golden at 11 over Membou would be crazy.

      Delete
    3. I think the bigger issue is the chances of Membou lasting to 11.

      Delete
    4. He's probably the best OT in the draft after pre-injured Simmons. Hope he lasts to just to see what they would do at 11 if he were sitting there. I would remind you the situation would be very similar to the trade down with Tampa, thereby passing on Wirfs.

    5. I think they value WR and DL over OL and their draft history illustrates that doesn't it?

      11 wide receivers
      10 defensive lineman
      8 cornerbacks
      7 offensive lineman

      Delete
    6. They passed on Wirfs knowing they were going after Trent Williams. They took McGlinchey at 9 despite having a Pro Bowl LT and starting RT. They took Banks in the top 50. They paid good money for Richburg and Mack.

The idea they don't invest in or value the OL is a fallacy.

      Delete
    7. Foerster did state most recently that he prefers skill players over OL in Round 1, and then he backed it up by taking Puni in Round 3 too.

      Delete
    8. Yes, he did. Maybe he meant it. Maybe he was being a good soldier. More likely he was outlining that there's no need to reach for one if there's a better players at other premium positions available, which is very fitting for how the draft played out last year.

IIRC, Foerster did also say something about taking transcendent talent when it's available, and pretty sure Membou's combo of film, experience (at only 20!) and athletic numbers suggest that's what he is.

Also... Foerster isn't the one making the decisions. I'm sure ShsnaLynch appreciate a guy that isn't pestering them to take OL high every pick, but that doesn't mean they don't see the value of giving him top talent to work with.

      Delete
    9. Yea, that's what I think the decision will ultimately come down to. Does Foerster believe Membou is a transendant talent. If he's still on the board at 11, chances are he's not seen as one by other teams.

  10. Brock Purdy's average depth of target by season...

    2022: 7.8
    2023: 8.6
    2024: 9.0

Just need to get him his running game back.

  11. Five players that were requested to stay post-workout to perform snaps at center:

    • Tyler Booker, Alabama
    • Connor Colby, Iowa
    • Hayden Conner, Texas
    • Joshua Gray, Oregon State
    • Joe Huber, Wisconsin

  12. What if Booker can play center?🔥

  13. Georgia C Jared Wilson’s 4.84 unofficial 40-time would be the fastest time by an iOL prospect since 2006, per MockDraftable.

  14. Wilson may go mid to late Round 2.

  15. Rapaport, “My understanding after talking to several sources informed of his medical and physical here, it sounds like it went incredibly well,” Rapoport said Sunday during the final day of the Combine. “(Simmons) reported that he’s way ahead of schedule and I was told he’s healing extremely nicely and there’s a very real chance – an expectation almost – that he’s ready to start the 2025 season. It also sounds like his interviews went really well. So for Simmons, who no doubt saw his future flash before his eyes with that bad injury this past college season, much more optimistic after the visit to Indy.”

  16. New era of cap:

Teams are getting smarter by using more void years and backloading contracts, so an adjustment we all need to make is to stop solely looking at this years cap space but to instead look at the next 2-3 years of salary cap obligations.

49ers punting 2025 cap. Flexible after!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep, exactly. Cap space is pretty flexible.

Even so, 49ers are in a position where they have a lot of cap space already accounted for over the next few years which is why they are looking to offload some underperforming contracts.

  20. I'm seeing the latest mock drafts projecting the 9ers using Rd #1 draft pick #11, to draft Armand Membou OT, Missouri.
While I'll be surprised if they do, my question is who thinks they will?
    IF NOT
Will the 9ers trade down for Mykel Williams EDGE, Georgia?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If Foerster determines Membou is a transendent talent he'll bang the table for him, but perhaps another team ahead of us agrees with Foerster and he never makes it to 11.

      Delete
  21. I think its a possibility Membou ends up going between picks 4-7.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I haven't seen him listed that high. Mid first Rd is what I'm seeing on a couple of post combine mock drafts that are out.

      Delete
    2. I think it will come down to between him and Campbell for OT1, and a very real possibility both are gone before pick 11.

  22. Director of player personnel Tariq Ahmad on the 49ers' pickiness when it comes to selecting offensive tackles.

"There's not a lot of people that have the skillset to play tackle, so it reduces the pool and they typically go pretty early. ... We are very selective."

  23. Dominick Puni scored the highest Relative Athletic Score of any OL this regime has ever drafted. I'm guessing they really like Membou, but do they like him enough to move up for him?

After taking DT Nolen off the board, I had the 9ers drafting Josh Simmons OT, Ohio St. But after news he actually tore his patellar tendon, I no longer think so. Will depend on medical.

      Delete
    2. His medicals were reported as positive by Rapaport.

    3. I still couldn't take him before day 3. So hard to come back full strength from.
