Texas A&M EDGE Nic Scourton and Tennessee EDGE James Pearce have met with the 49ers at the NFL Combine.
ReplyDeleteIndiana DT C.J. West has a formal meeting today with the #49ers.
ReplyDeleteI expect they'll have formal meetings with a lot of DL, especially the ones with question marks over character.
ReplyDelete49ers have formally met with Elijah Roberts, Shemar Turner and Nick Martin.
ReplyDeleteChris Paul Jr also said the player he is most commonly compared to is Dre Greenlaw.
Nice.
DeleteThree prospects that scouts have continued to bring up and will have a close eye on this week in Indianapolis.
ReplyDelete1. Jaydon Blue, RB, Texas
2. Savion Williams, WR, TCU
3. Omarr Norman-Lott, DT, Tennessee
Breaking: The NFL says its plan is to put its electronic system to measure first downs into motion this upcoming regular season in 2025.
ReplyDeleteThe chain crew would remain on sideline as backup.
Definitely helps eliminate elements of human error and the idea of favoritism in some cases... That said I will miss the Drama of the moment some.
DeleteI'm ok with it.
ReplyDeleteIt will speed up the game. Refs taking time for a measurement can be excessive at times. Hopefully, this eventually eliminates the red challenge flag as well.
Good point.
DeleteUCLA EDGE Oluwafemi Oladejo continues to be linked to 49ers.
ReplyDelete@TonyPauline
is hearing that 49ers are "very high" on him.
Oladejo is a good player. But at 261 lbs, he gives me a little of the Solomon Thomas vibe. Thomas was 270 lbs, and consistently swallowed up by Olinemen. At 261 lbs, will Oladejo be Solomon Thomas 2.0?
DeleteTwo different positions but if you watch Oladejo's tape he sets the edge very well. He's actualy got some good tape.
DeleteI watched Oladejo's tape and he seems to live in the opponents back field. If he can do this in the pros he could be a steal.
DeleteOladejo is definitely intriguing, but I hope they don't get so excited they end up pulling the trigger on him early.
DeleteHe still needs a lot of development as a pass rusher. With so many good Edge defenders in this draft, no need to panic and overdraft a developmental guy.
I got him as a 4th rounder.
DeleteYeah, 4th is fine by me, but would be a bit nervous spending a day 2 pick on a developmental project.
DeleteThe 49ers will look to sign an offensive lineman, a cornerback and a possibly wide receiver in Free Agency, according to Tony Pauline.
ReplyDeleteAdd DT and C pls......seeing as Bartch and Zakelj weren't able to supplant Brendel - and DT is biggest need, in my opinion.
DeleteI got a hunch Foerster believes Hennessy will compete with Brendel for the job.
DeleteApparently there are rumours the 49ers are shopping Leonard Floyd.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I'm not surprised.
DeleteAbdul Carter, a Penn State football player, was charged with assaulting a tow truck driver in April 2024. The charge stems from an incident in March 2024.
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like no team in the top 10 should take him then 😁
DeleteBased on John Lynch's presser it sounds like they won't be going all in this year and are very much looking at setting themselves up for the next few years.
ReplyDeleteWas very open about the need to balance the books and to get younger.
My read on that is don't expect them to make a trade for a big name player, and don't expect them to go out and sign a heap of big name FAs - maybe 1 or 2 targeted guys and some depth.
But do expect them to try and add draft picks.
Scooter,
ReplyDeleteI have been having the same thought. I hope that I'm wrong, but it's looking like team is in a reset mode going into 2025. A 10 win season could be a pipe dream for me.
I genuinely think it's the right approach this offseason anyway. Too many holes to fill, too many important guys coming back from serious injury or still hurt, too much money already committed - too many question marks. Just doesn't feel like the right time to go all in, even though they have a bunch of guys that are ageing out soon. Feels like if they tried it would most likely be in vain and just set them way back in the near future.
DeleteI think it will be more of a soft reset though. They do still have a bunch of talented guys, and I expect they will still add some good players in FA. If they can get a good contribution from the 2024 draft class and this year's draft, with the 4th place schedule I think they're still a good playoff team.
We've seen with other teams how quickly an injection of good youth around a core group can make a strong team.
Hopefully, it's a soft reset as you say. The Rams went through soft reset after winning the SB. But they did a great job in their draft and quickly built a strong young team especially on the D.
DeleteThe have from drafting a few luxury picks to can't miss draft picks in 2025.
*They* have *gone*
DeleteBowling Green TE Harold Fannin Jr. had a formal meeting with the 49ers at the NFL Combine.
ReplyDeleteTests today revealed that potential No. 1 pick Abdul Carter has a stress reaction in his right foot and the Penn State standout will need to decide soon whether to have surgery, sources told ESPN.
ReplyDeleteSurgery for stress reactions can help to alleviate stress reactions by providing additional stability to the bone and preventing the risk of progression to stress fracture. Yet, one issue is that the screw can sometimes cause irritation after healing; leading to a 2nd surgery.
DeleteJim Nagy, "NFL scouts & execs need to know UCLA's Oluwafemi Oladejo is a 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 dude. Trust me, the passion is real. You want him in your locker room". Force multiplier.
ReplyDeleteMichigan TE Colston Loveland met with the 49ers at the NFL Combine.
ReplyDeleteClemson TE Jake Briningstool had a formal interview with the 49ers at the Combine.
ReplyDeleteThe 49ers met with formally Kansas CB Cobee Bryant.
ReplyDeleteMet informally with Nebraska CB Tommi Hill and UCF CB BJ Adams.
LSU CB Zy Alexander has met with the 49ers informally.
ReplyDeleteStud DL Mason Graham, a likely Top 5 pick, will only do the bench press here at the NFL Scouting Combine, per his agent Ryan Matha. Not a good look but we knew he wouldn't test well.
ReplyDeleteAlabama TE CJ Dippre has met Informally with the 49ers.
ReplyDeleteKansas State CB Jacob Parrish had a formal meeting with the 49ers.
ReplyDeleteThe 49ers have met with Michigan DL Kenneth Grant.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be mad if the 49ers take Grant at 11. He could be the run stopper the defense needs. But in truth, the 49ers suddenly have many needs.
DeleteGrant isn't a good enough pass rusher for me to take him at 11.
DeleteAgree with razor - 11 is too high for me to be happy taking Grant.
DeleteMason Graham coming in at under 300lbs is a bit of a shocker. He didn't look 320 as listed, but that's lighter than I expected.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the Texas A&M edge boys have come to put on a show - both have come in well below their listed weight. And for both its clearly a case of dropping weight for the combine - Stewart was 281lbs just a few weeks ago at the Senior Bowl.
Michigan DT Mason Graham Combine measurements:
DeleteHT: 6034 (59th percentile)
WT: 296 lbs. (26th percentile)
Arm: 32” (12th percentile)
The tape is still excellent though.
DeleteI'm still taking Nolen over him. Might not be popular but I don't care.
DeleteAfter hearing Nolen speak, I reckon he'll have done little to alleviate character concerns.
Delete👀
DeleteTyrion Ingram-Dawkins, DL, Georgia is an ascending player. Early day 3 prospect.
ReplyDeleteGeorgia LB Jalon Walker Combine measurements
ReplyDeleteAs an edge:
HT: 6010 (2nd percentile)
WT: 243 lbs. (6th percentile)
Arm: 32” (5th percentile)
Hand: 10 1/4" (79th percentile)
As an off-ball LB
HT: 6010 (30th)
WT: 243 lbs. (63rd)
Arm: 32” (37th)
Hand: 10 1/4" (90th)
Kentucky CB Maxwell Hairston had a formal meeting with the 49ers.
ReplyDelete49ers met with Texas S Andrew Mukuba at the Combine.
ReplyDeleteTop 10 iDL performers in the NFL:
ReplyDelete1.74 10 yard split

In his most recent mock, espn's Mel Kiper has the 49ers taking CB Will Johnson. I've been touting for them to go Edge, IDL, and OL. But Will Johnson could be a day one starter, which at this point the 49ers need.
ReplyDeleteI'd bet the house against that happening.
DeleteThere's a report that the 49ers have met with Johnson which makes the Kiper mocking him to the 49ers a bit intriguing.
DeleteEnd of the day, if he's the best guy available on their board at pick 11, and they haven't signed a certain starting CB in FA, they should take him.
DeleteDude makes business decisions and had a turf toe among other injuries. I don't see him as a fit or a realistic pick by a regime that doesn't put a premium on the position.
DeleteCJ West with an excellent 10 yard split and 40 yard dash.
ReplyDeleteHe's so underrated.

Princely Umanmielen listed some places from 255-264, weighed in at 244 today.
ReplyDeleteWas 260+ at the Senior Bowl.
DeleteWe've had multiple reports that say teams have already removed Walter Nolen from their draft boards.
ReplyDeleteNOT working out at the NFL Combine just presents more questions.
Landon Jackson 40.5" vertical!!
ReplyDeleteHe could become the "field goal killer."
DeleteNot sure I recall a draft littered with as many Bad Character IED's at the top as this draft.
ReplyDelete1.61 10 yard split benchmark for top 10 sackers off the edge.
ReplyDelete1.58 10 yard split for Pearce Jr.
ReplyDeleteShemar Stewart has moved into top 10 for some teams according to Bruglar.
ReplyDeleteTape says he's not a 1st rounder.
ReplyDeleteBoth Pearce Jr., and Ezeiruaku's feet look immaculate. Landon Jackson is a much better athlete than I thought.
ReplyDeleteJaramee Caldwell's feet at 330 lbs., are immaculate.
ReplyDeleteCarson Schwesinger: 39 1/2" vertical jump
ReplyDeleteShemar Stewart is a DE prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored an unofficial 9.99 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 3 out of 1802 DE from 1987 to 2025.
ReplyDeleteRobert Saleh has been putting on a “full-court press” by making calls to Dre Greenlaw and telling him he wants him to come back, per Matt Barrows.
ReplyDeleteEdge Donovan Ezeiruaku had the top 3-cone (6.94) and short shuttle (4.19) among the DL group.
ReplyDeleteProduction. Tape. Testing. Checking the boxes of a 1st round pick.
Nick Martin had himself a nice day for a guy coming back from a knee injury. He's small for a LB, but boy he can play. Big time nose for the football.
ReplyDeleteJihaad Campbell looks like a 1st rounder.
DeleteBest 2 reported short shuttles for edge defenders so far:
ReplyDeleteDonovan Ezeiruaku: 4.19
Brady Swinson: 4.33
Ezeiruaku looks like one of the safest edge rushers.
Really nice workout for Minnesota ED Jah Joyner. Big, long, impressive pass-rusher that also had a nice week at the Senior Bowl.
ReplyDeleteClocked in with the fastest max speed in the 40 of any edge (22.58 mph) at 6’4”, 262 lbs.
His run defense scares me though.
DeleteStewart has a 9.2% pressure rate on non-screens and RPOs.
ReplyDeleteCarter is at 20.4%
Pearce Jr. is at 18.7%
Do you remember Vernon Gholston?
DeleteGuys that are that dominant athletically but didn't transfer it to production in college scare the heck out of me.
As far as I'm concerned if we can come away with Walter Nolen and CJ West I'll call that an A grade draft.
DeleteI must admit I am cooling on Nolen. Lots of talent, but really not convinced he's a good fit mentality wise.
DeleteAs long as Nolen doesn't have any assaults or such I'm riding him all the way home.
DeleteEven if he is uncoachable?
DeleteWhat are we paying these defensive coaches for if they're gonna be intimidated by an "uncoachable" prospect. Surely he can't be as bad as a player who killed someone racing?
DeleteYeah, that's no doubt what the 49ers told themselves about Reuben Foster.
DeleteTrue but Foster came a time when their culture was in it's infancy, and they didn't have near the experience they have in Saleh, Gus and Kocurek.
DeleteToo bad the NFL doesn't have an intern process before paying out huge contracts to rookies.
ReplyDeletePair of teams expressing 'significant interest' in trading for 49ers WR Deebo Samuel
ReplyDeleteThe Washington Commanders and Houston Texans are expressing "significant interest" in trading for San Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel, according to new reporting from Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos have also been involved but the Commanders and Texans are believed to be the most "aggressive" in on-going trade talks with the 49ers.
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/pair-teams-expressing-significant-interest-191158209.html
Not buying that report. I don't think the Niners have any interest in trading Deebo and they've explained that to him in private. His contract precludes that ever happening before June 1. They'll designate him as such in March.
DeleteRazor
ReplyDeleteYou may be correct, but not according to this:
The San Francisco 49ers seem on the brink of moving on from Deebo Samuel, and teams are beginning to line up with trade interest for the wide receiver.
*mFOX Sports’s Jordan Schultz reported on Thursday that the Washington Commanders and Houston Texans have had significant interest in trading for Samuel, with talks progressing over the past few days during the week of the NFL Combine.
* That news came after general manager John Lynch acknowledged that the team will honor Samuel’s request for a fresh start on Wednesday when speaking with reporters at the Combine.
“We’re on good terms with Deebo,” Lynch said. “I think, you know, he’s asked for a fresh start and I think we’re going to honor that, like seeing great players and he is a great player. He’s, I think often, one of my favorite draft picks in my time.

If the 49ers want to eat $31.5M in cap space this year for a draft pick, more power to 'em but I'm just not buying it Geep.
DeleteRazor, if the 49ers were cap strapped in 2025 I would agree with you. Finding the extra $20M when you're already hard against the cap would be a problem.
DeleteBut they aren't. They can absorb it. And what's more, they have a few contracts they can easily rework to free that $20M back up if they want to.
End of the day they need to pay that $30 for Deebo against the cap at some point. And it just ends up in a combined pool, so if one guy's cap hit needs to be brought forward you have ways to push other guys back to balance it back out.
That's still $16M they'll lose to make this years team better.
DeleteOnly if you assume they'd want to restructure all deals to push money back to future years. They won't. Doing so would mean they'd be so cap strapped in future years they'd need to do a hard reset in the next year or two. That goes completely against what ShanaLynch have repeatedly said about their roster building philosophy which is geared around competing every year.
DeleteYou'd only do that if you're going all in for 2025. They aren't going all in this year.
It's 31.5M on this years cap if they trade. Post June 1 they split that up over 2 cap years. Not sure what you're talking here.
DeleteYou're too focused on one guy. The cap is a combined number. They need to pay that $30M for Deebo at some point. If they push $20M to next year, cool. If they absorb it this year, no problem, they can push some other guys cap hits back.
DeleteThey are not in a position where they can't find the cap space if they bring Deebo's cap hit forward.
Yea I know they can open up cap room with Kittle/Warner but you're still cutting your nose off to spite your face on this years cap.
DeleteAgain, only if you're planning to restructure all those other guys anyway. Or sign all your FAs/ extensions to minimum salary + bonuses to minimise cap hit in 2025.
DeleteIf not, which I doubt they would be, then it's just a case of shifting cap hits for individuals to end up at the same spot. No biggy. If it's the difference between getting a draft pick for Deebo or not, it's worth doing.
If that's what they choose to do so be it. I've got my popcorn ready.
Delete49ers have met with Tre Harris.
ReplyDeleteYou think they'd take a WR at 43? I do.
DeleteFor the right guy, definitely.
Delete49ers also met with Maxwell Hairston, who is putting on an absolute show today.
ReplyDeleteToo bad he can't tackle.
DeleteTop Ten Unofficial 40-yard Dash Times from the CB group NFL Combine:
ReplyDelete4.29 Maxwell Hairston, Kentucky
4.30 Darien Porter, Iowa State
4.33 Caleb Ransaw, Tulane
4.36 Jacob Parrish, Kansas State

4.40 Jahdae Barron, Texas
4.40 Robert Longerbeam, Rutgers
4.40 Justin Wallet, Minnesota
4.41 Mac McWilliams, UCF
4.43 Bilhal Kone, WMU
Weirdly, I think the 49ers might find themselves in a position at 11 where there isn't great value available at that spot, yet at 43 find great value available.
ReplyDeleteI get that too.
DeleteDoesn't matter. Bill Walsh always said it doesn't matter where the player is drafted.
