#49ers DL Kalia Davis came out of Saturday’s game with a knee injury and will need surgery. He’s expected to be back halfway through the season.

Gameday Week 15: 49ers vs Dolphins

Ouch! He had a good game and was looking like DJ Jones.
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd "Designated to Return IR". First being Guerrendo.
Loving that new IR rule. Neither counts against the roster prior to cut down day.
DeleteWonder what that means for Ambry Thomas...
DeleteThomas was probably on the fringe of making the roster. Could open the door for a player like Womack.
DeleteI think Ambry will be waived once the roster cuts start. A la DJ Reed.
DeleteLogically Ambry has 1 year on his rookie deal...so he can effectively contribute only for half a year. Kalia Davis has 2 yrs and Guerrendo has 4. So my preference would be to "Designate to Return IR" on those two, considering long term returns.
Davis was poor versus the run Saturday night. He over penetrates against the run and over runs the ball carrier but his penetration could turn him into a very good rotational pass rusher.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit surprised to see Lamar Jackson at 17 and Kyler Murray at 22.
ReplyDeleteCody Schrader did nothing to advance his chances at making the roster on Saturday. He will need to do something special in the next preseason game(s) to have a shot at the PS, imho. As an UDFA he's already a long-shot.
ReplyDeleteAES,
DeleteI have another perspective.
Schrader picked up blitzes on 4 separate occasions. That is very difficult for rookies to do. Heck, even vet RBs struggle with pass blocking.
Also, Schrader had a good run which was called back by a Ronnie Bell penalty. This would have made his stats look better.
Keep in mind, we were playing our 2s vs Titans 1s. So he did all this behind a shaky Oline against their starters who were blitzing like 60% of the plays!!
This is also why I was in awe of Jordan Mason. Though Mason still has to improve his pass catching and missed a blitz pickup.
Mug,
DeleteAll good. But I doubt that Schrader is being looked on as being a blocker, although you are correct that blocking is part of the RBs game. Krueger has been waving the Schrader flag since OTAs and I didn't see anything from him that warranted that kind of attention. 5 carries for only 6 yards is below pedestrian. I always pull for the underdog and he's that guy for me in this TC. But he can't have another outing like this past Saturday.
With the Super Bowl losers hangover, injuries and hold outs I am getting the feeling that its not going to be a great year for our beloved 49ers. A down year could could also hold a rainbow for the team. A less than stellar performance by the team might just hold down BPs price. A long term contract for measurably less than 60 mill a year could open/lengthen their SB window. I hope I am wrong but i'm just beginning to get a sickly feeling in the pit of my stomach.
ReplyDeleteCoach,
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the older I get, the more pessimistic I'm getting. But, I don't see the 49ers falling out of the SB picture. So far there haven't been any major injuries. Greenlaw will be missed, but it's the next man up. The 49ers must take care of TW or a SB run will get cloudy. Aiyuk is vital, but they could win enough to have a deep postseason run without him. Of course Pearsall, Bell or Gray will need to show up. The 49ers greatest asset is Purdy, they will find a way to open the books for him.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers have reached an agreement on a potential trade for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Additionally, the Steelers are reportedly "in a good place" regarding a new contract for Aiyuk.
ReplyDeleteUC
DeleteI believe this is the article you're referring to?
* Report: 49ers, Brandon Aiyuk aren't that far apart on a long-term deal.
https://sports.yahoo.com/report-49ers-brandon-aiyuk-arent-004714411.html
49ers would need to sign off on this. The 49er still hold the cards in this. The Steelers would need to blow the 49ers away with something in return to get serious attention. Sounds like they're back to square one from a couple of weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteApparently they have, its now up to Aiyuk.
DeleteHopefully, the 49ers are receiving an impressive return if this is a done deal.
ReplyDeleteI really never took the cheese when it comes to trading Aiyuk. Still think he'll sign this week.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the story changes every hour. I believe that the 49ers and Aiyuk come to terms this week as well. Plus, can anyone really say that the Steelers have stability at QB? Wilson has been trending down of late and Fields is inconsistent. The Steelers will be hard pressed to make the playoffs while the 49ers will be contending for another SB run.
ReplyDeleteInteresting take. Caught this on another outlet.
ReplyDelete"Who is more important to the 49ers in 2024?

Trent Williams

5%
Brandon Aiyuk

Not many people voting, but my guess is that most are 49ers fans. It's TW for me as well.
