Left At The Altar

Mike Tomlin and his Pittsburg Steelers seem to have been left at the altar after Brandon Aiyuk shows up to team headquarters in 49ers gear. I'm guessing he listened to his mom and will put ink to paper in a few hours. How we feeling now guys?

  1. Feeling good. I've been saying that Aiyuk and the 49ers will work out a deal for a couple of months. I'm just waiting for the official FO report and contract details that follows. Maybe tonight or tomorrow.

    1. Yep, I never took the cheese either.

    2. I thought it would be good business sense to trade Aiyuk. This will also help Purdy adapt to a less dynamic Offense....make sense if we pay $60M/yr in 2026.

We can't pay Aiyuk and Deebo, while also paying Kittle, CMC, Trent, Bosa, Warner and Hargrave next year.

So this means Ward and Lenoir can't be signed for a 2nd contract, I guess. Unless Paraag gets really creative.

    3. We haven't typically invested big money in our secondary or og's. I didn't think we'd keep Ward and Lenoir will probably want to be paid as an outside cb while the Niners will want to pay him as a Ni.

    4. Yeah.... definitely not paying Banks, now that we know Puni can start. Also, I don't think we give another 1 year deal to Feliciano considering the age and the toll his body has taken. So Burford and Zakelj will have to step up.

With CBs, I agree on your take on Ward. He is out of our range now. Plus, I don't think we sign DeMo who will have a healthy market.

So, pivotal for us to develop Green, Luter Jr and Womack this year.

This will be an unpopular take, but to sustain the roster and get healthy cap-wise, I think we probably will trade Deebo next year (assuming BA gets a long-term deal).

    5. I'm leaning towards them extending Deebo next year but we'll see.

  2. the NFL avg completion rate the last decade is 63.9%

Sam Darnold played 66 games over 6 seasons

he NEVER had 1 season with even 62% comp

his career average is 59.7% comp

that ranks #47 out of 48 QBs

    meanwhile...

    Kirk Cousins ranked #4 of 48 (67.4%)

  3. I'm concerned with the D-Line. Robert Beal Jr probably had his worst game on edge. With Kalia Davis out for 4 months, not sure who is gonna step up at DT.

I wish we wouldn't have spent two 5th round picks to move up and get Guerrendo and instead should have invested in the D-Line.

Every freakin' year we spend a luxury pick on RB and then find a better UDFA or a late-round RB. :)

On a balancing note, LB room is stacked. We released Ezekial Turner, so coaches must like what they see with Curtis Robinson, DeVondre Campbell and the young pups - Winters, Graham and Bethune.

    1. Barrett looked good but DE is a concern. I'd watch to see if the Saints release Foskey and bring him in. If Davis is just getting a clean up with a scope he should only miss 6 weeks.

    2. Yeah Barrett looked good.....great motor, was all around the ball.

Knee injuries are always tricky, especially for 300lb DLinemen....fingers crossed that it is just 6 weeks for Davis.

Vikings lost their Rookie QB for the year, after they said he will lose about a couple of months. So we'll see.

    3. Yep, you never know what you'll find in there. I've had floating cartilage in my need and when it catches its extremely painful with lots of swelling. Hopefully thats all it is cuz we will probably need him at some point. Kocurek's scheme is predicated on a healthy rotation upfront and we saw what happened to it when he didn't have it last year.

    4. Darnold gets his chance now that he's locked up the Starting job by default. He has the arguably best WR in the NFL.

    5. Sorry to hear that Razor. Hope you are better now.

AES - Yes, hope Darnold can redeem his career. Wasn't all that good in our last game of the season vs Rams, who played Carson Wentz and won that game. Earned Wentz a season with the chiefs now.

Hope Darnold can redeem his career and start a full season now.

    6. Mug,
I hope he redeems his career as well. This may be his best opportunity to do it.

  4. Depth at OL/DL/S/TE have me concerned. I guess that is the result of all of the big/huge contracts. I get a kick out of those who say don't worry about the cap they will find a way to deal with it. They have its called lack of talent at OL and lack of depth.

  5. I don't recall seeing Evan Anderson play last Saturday. But his stat sheet shows two tackles. I'll make a better effort to catch him #66 on Sunday.

    1. A dude that big shouldn't get moved like he did.

  6. I saw 49ers Dlineman getting pushed around, I just know that EA was one of them. But I agree, someone that big shouldn't get moved like that.

Gameday Week 2: 49ers vs Vikings

Despite Flores' intent to take away the run with 6 man fronts and blitzes, I'm expecting another run heavy game plan with Mason go...
