Shhhh....

Reigning Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey once again has reset the RB market, signing a two-year extension with the 49ers, averaging $19 million per year, per sources. McCaffrey will receive an additional $8 million over what he was scheduled to make in the first two years while adding $24 million in guarantees. The deal was negotiated and confirmed by WME Football.

  1. Two down - Jennings, CMC, and one to go - Aiyuk.

  2. Well deserved indeed. Nice breakdown from Albert Breer.

Easy way to look at 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey's 2-year extension ...

    • Was due $24.2 million the next two years ($12M in '24, $12.2M in '25).

    • Now making $32.2 million over that time ($16M in '24, $16.2M in '25).

    • His $12.5 million in '26 is basically a team option.

  3. Interesting contract structure. First three years are all signing/ option bonus heavy years, pushing cap hit down the line.

Ends up being just under $7M against cap this year, and under $10M the next two years. But jumps up to over $25M in last year and has $15M left against cap the year after the deal voids.

  4. I think CMCs signing makes an Aiyuk trade that much more likely. Aiyuk will probably ask for less than Jeffrerson but more than any other WR. I'm guessing around 30 mill, way too much to sign BP, Ward, Collins, Greenlaw, Banks, McKivitz, Lenoir, and Hufanga next year and that is only counting starters. I would rather see them trade Deebo and sign Aiyuk but I don't see that happening.

  5. I'm surprised that BA isn't at mini camp. If he misses all 3 days he will be fined $100,000. Correct me if i'm wrong didn't Deebo report to Mini camp but not practice. I think this is just another sign that he is serious about getting Jefferson like money or being traded.

    1. Bosa didn't report. End of the day the agent will likely just add whatever they fine him to negotiations.

  6. Within a week or so after CMC joined the team, the offense was turbocharged. He is the best offensive player on the team and deserves every penny. In my opinion his impact on the offense is significantly greater than BA's impact. Frankly, I don't think BA deserves the kind of money he wants and I'm okay with him moving on.

I suspect the team won't consummate a deal this year with BA. They might want to see if Pearsall can put up good numbers in 2024 with a trajectory that will provide BA numbers in 2025.

I haven't been keeping up, but are there any teams willing to pay BA what he wants?

    1. I should have said "any teams rumored to pay BA what he wants?"

    2. Cubus,
I bet their are teams out there (likely teams with QBs on their first contract) who can meet BAs demands but because of the size of the contract I believe they won't be willing to give up too much in return. Maybe a late 2 or 3.

  7. I found this to be an interesting read, that addresses the different options the 9ers have to signing Aiyuk to a new contract.

  9. Coach,
Haha, you're absolutely right! Hopefully, gone are the days when knuckleheads like Aldon and Foster no longer fill the gap during between MC and TC.

  10. AES,
There were a lot more than Smith and Foster. There was Ray McDonald, Al Netter, Daniel Kilgore, Chris Culliver, Bruce Miller, Ahmad Brooks and Tremaine Brock. All but Foster and Brock happened under Harbaugh. KS/JL seemed to learn their lesson after Foster. I guess we will see whether Harbaugh learned his starting this season

    1. Yeah, Harbaugh wasn't the best disciplinarian. Remember, Bruce Miller knocking out an elderly man? Lynch and Shanahan have done a very good job in setting team standards on and off the season. Hope it stays that way.
