CMC

"To be on the cover of Madden NFL is a career achievement and an honor I share with all of my teammates, coaches and 49er faithful who have helped make it possible," McCaffrey said in the official release. "I'm pumped to get back on the field this year to give Madden players more reasons to keep scoring touchdowns with me in 'Madden NFL 25.'"

  1. Hopefully no Madden Cover curse. Anyone remember the S.I. cover curse?

  2. With his new contract, KS says, "he would like to avoid running McCaffrey into the ground to make sure he remains productive through the duration of his contract."
*So the question is, how many times should he get the ball and who will get the extra carries? The logical answer should be Mitchell, but can he stay healthy?
    * Mason has shown he has been effective when he get a call, but KS
believes in no block, no rock. So can Mason improve his blocking and
    get more carries?
    * Maybe the answer is Taylor, Schrader or Guerendo? IMO, Guerendo has both the size and speed to get a good look in pre-season.....I'd
be interested in what everyone else believes!

    1. I think part of the answer lies in the WR room.

I agree with you, but maybe not for the same reason?
    A) If the 9ers succeed at extending Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings gets more playing time and both succeed at moving the chains / first downs?
    B) If Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing are a success, get more calls
and succeed in moving the ball?
I would agree that either, or both, are part of the answer...BUT, I would
also add that the O-Line, especially at RG, will need to improve.
The 9ers struggled to pass protect last season, culminating with BP being pressured on nearly half of his drop-backs in the team’s Super Bowl loss. Their 57.2 team pass-blocking grade ranked 24th in the NFL and was the only facet where they ranked outside the top 12. They need to improve their pass protection in true drop-back situations in order to get themselves over the hump and win both a championship and SB.
    * Your thoughts?

  4. I have a feeling we will be seeing other RBs taking about 8 to 12 carries this year but I also see CMC getting additional receptions. It is going to be a very interesting preseason with big competition at RB, C, and OG

    1. Interesting. I was actually thinking the addition of a guy like Pearsall would eat into CMCs reception total.

Pearsall offers a similar skillset as a receiver as a guy that can uncover quickly from the slot.

    2. Scooter,
CMC is a once in a generation talent. I can see KS limiting his carries especially between the tackles but KS will still do whatever it takes to win games and eventually a SB. Pearsall may have a good rookie year but his receptions won't replace CMCs as far as their impact on games/the season.

    3. Maybe. I think Pearsall's skillset is perfect for that short and intermediate outlet that CMC also provides.

  6. Better IOL run blocking, specifically at Center would protect CMC.

  7. So would a good backup RB. Mitchell would be my preference, but he needs to stay healthy in order to provide continuity on the offense when CMC gets a breather. Mason can be that player as well, but has yet to prove himself as a receiver. Guerrendo, Taylor, and the long-shot Shrader. Should be some nice competition in TC. At the moment, I have Mitchell as the 2nd RB until proven otherwise.

    1. Almost all the local media that attended OTAs have said how good Schrader looked. Who knows, maybe he can work his way into some meaningful snaps.

    2. That would be great. I love a Rocky story. Shrader is one of the players I'll be following in TC.

  8. Seeing the Celtics close to the NBA Championship (after knocking the door for around 8 years), gives me fresh hope that we will get No 6 sooner rather than later.

Just have to keep chippin' away.

  9. Congratulations to CMC. I was not too keen on this trade, considering the many draft resources it took to get him. But boy was I wrong! :)

This is probably the greatest trade in Niners history (or comes close to it)

  10. How reported Lawrence Jags deal could impact Purdy 49ers extension:
    https://sports.yahoo.com/lawrences-contract-impacts-potential-purdy-025608071.html

    * The 9ers' future hopes of signing Brock Purdy to a long-term contract extension in 2025 just got significantly more expensive following QB Trevor Lawrence’s agreement with Jacksonville.
    * The No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft reportedly agreed to terms with Jacksonville on a five-year $275 million extension with $200 million guaranteed on Thursday.
*Prior to Lawrence’s agreement, there was some belief that Purdy would receive an offer landing him in the $40 million per-year range, but the market has gone up and the Iowa State product will have a significant amount of leverage when he is eligible to sign a contract extension at the close of the 2024 season.
    * ANYONE CARE TO GUESS WHAT IT WILL COST THE 9ERS TO SIGN
BP TO AN EXTENSION? I'M GUESSING 5 YEARS, >$275 MIL P/Y AND >$200 MIL GUARANTEED!

    1. Geep,
I agree unless his play drops off this season

    2. I've tried to steer clear of commenting on what he will cost for just this reason - I felt confident there would be a bunch of new QB deals before he is extended which will likely lift his cost. I thought talk of $45-$50M a year was very hopeful.

Hard to say at this point what it will be, but I doubt Lawrence is the last big QB deal between now and Purdy.

    3. Actually, I am expecting Purdy to accept a discount. Why? Because I think he comes from the kind of mentality and background where he is grateful that the 49ers gave him the opportunity and won't mind providing some kind of "discounts" in a deal. I don't think he will feel the need to have the top QB deal in order to prove his worth. Of course, one never knows, but that is my guess.

  11. OPEN QUESTION FOR THE BLOG:
How will the Lawrence, BP extensions impact the 9ers relationships with Aiyuk and Deebo?
    * Will the 9ers get an extension done with Aiyuk, or trade him?
    * Will the 9ers trade Deebo?

  12. CMC is the epitome of a football player. Does everything very well. He catches the ball, he throws the ball, and he runs with the ball and he blocks away from the ball. Wouldn't surprise me if he could punt and kick to boot.
