UDFA signings:
DL Shakel Brown *
DL Evan Anderson
S Jaylen Mahoney
OL Cris Hubbard *
OL Briason Mays
QB Tanner Mordecai
OL Drake Nugent
WR Terique Owens
TE Mason Pline
RB Cody Schrader
If you had to pick one of these players as having the best chance to make the team, who do you have?
Me? Pline
* denotes F/A
I'm with you on Pline. He and Owens to PS. These two are tucked away for next year.
ReplyDeleteBrandon ranked 3rd in total EPA among all playmakers, 7th in yds, 8th in Y/RR. Very few receivers work the entire field, against every coverage, like Aiyuk does.
ReplyDeleteRB Cody Schrader and DL Evan Anderson
ReplyDeleteOur higher Draft-pick RB never works, but the late round/FA is always a good depth piece.
We paid around 300k guaranteed for Anderson. So he should make PS if no one claims him.

Delete2 QUESTIONS:
* Will the 9ers replace Mason with Schrader?
* Will the 9ers carry 4 or 5 RB's this season?
Mug,
DeleteIt slipped my mind that Anderson was signed with 300k guaranteed. That bodes well for him.
GEEP,
DeleteBest case scenario....we trade Mitchell and get back a 6th or one of the RBs starts the season on IR.
I see 4RBs + Juice on the 53. CMC, Guerendo, Mason, Schrader and Juice.
Guerendo plays Special Teams, and we spent like 3 Draft picks on him. So he has to be Joe Williams level bust to be cut.
IMO, The Number one UDFA to make the team is DL Arik Anderson.
ReplyDelete* From 2022 to 2023, the biggest production drop off for all 9er units was run defense. DT Arik Armstead's and Kinlaw are no longer 9ers.
326 pound D-Lineman Evan Anderson received a $30K bonus and $250K base salary guarantee to sign with the 9ers.
The number 2 UDFA to make the 9er team is, IMO, Chris Hubbard, a
33 Y/O O-Lineman who's played little the past 3 years due to injuries.
Hubbard has played all 5 O-Line positions, but will provide the 9ers with swing tackle insurance.
Hubbard may eventually start. Either Anderson or Brown will make the 53 the other will make the PS. Schrader will make the PS this year and the 53 in 25. Nugent Pline and Owens PS. If F. Gore Jr or B. Rice get released I think the 9ers will try to stash them on the PS.

ReplyDeleteMissouri RB, Cody Schrader, was a late 6th round prospect until his combine performance. A disaster that, IMO, resulted in his not being drafted. If you watch his tape, you'll see his vision as a ball carrier is his best trait.
He finds running lanes and processes defenses that allows him to break off larger runs than most. He won't hit home runs, but he'll get a lot of first downs.
Cody Schrader reminds me of a RB that used to play for the 60's original San Diego Chargers named Dicky Post. I loved watching Post smooth running style. Schrader' highlight videos looks like he isn't exerting to much energy the way Post ran.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to follow his progress in TC.
Dicky Post - that's a name I haven't heard in decades.
DeleteAll interesting takes guys. Should be a highly competitive camp. There's gonna be a player or two that gets the "injury" designation.
ReplyDeleteA lot of it will come down to which positions have the most opportunity/ lack of depth to allow one of these guys to make the roster.
ReplyDeleteI can't see an interior OL UDFA making it as they already have plenty of depth there following the draft. But Hubbard definitely has a chance as a FA for the swing OT role.
Anderson and Brown also have a shot given how many DT the team likes to take. The team also doesn't have many bigger bodied DTs, so I could see Anderson winning a roster spot.
Pline is interesting, but will largely come down to how Latu and Willis perform. But with Woerner and Dwelley gone, the opportunity is definitely there for him.
Schrader will be facing an uphill battle. CMC, Mitchell and Guerendo are almost certain to make the team. And I don't see them keeping more than 4 RBs plus Juice. So Schrader will have to show he has more STs value than Mason or Taylor. Could be more of a PS candidate I think.
I’m posting quite late but here goes. The two I think most likely are Hubbard and Anderson. Kocurek sp? must see something special in him. And about RB people seem to treat Patrick Taylor as an afterthought but I think they signed him in part as a possible replacement for Mason. He’s a big hard runner with some dart and burst, and Lafleur praised him for his blocking.
