If you're not familiar with Les Spellman, he's one of America's elite speed performance coaches. He's trained several Olympians as well as athletes in the NFL, NCAA and US Rugby. Brandon Aiyuk is apparently working out with Spellman which is good news amid reports that contract negotiations have yet to heat up, and he's been a no show at OTA's.

What is the possibility of the 49ers trading Deebo to make financial space to pay Aiyuk? Is the team locked into Deebo's contract even if he's traded before the start of the season?
ReplyDeleteI think by June 2nd or thereabouts Armstead's money comes off the books. I wanna say like 14 million but don't quote me on it.

DeleteArmstead has been designated as a post-June 1 cut according to a 9er team source, which will open up about $18 million. But this money (his 2024 salary and assorted bonuses) won’t come off the books until after June 1, so June 2nd is correct
Ok, cool and thanks.
DeleteThanks Razor. As much as I like Deebo, he had no impact in the Superbowl. He looked lethargic, hurt and at times disinterested.
ReplyDeleteAiyuk has shown up in big games and hopefully he and the 49ers can find a suitable medium going forward.
I don’t see them trading Deebo this year because I don’t see the need. I would expect Deebo to have a good year which raises his prospects for a future contract and also raises his worth in a trade.
ReplyDeleteFelix,
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense. With the money coming off the books from the Armstead move in June, hopefully the 49ers and Aiyuk can find a common ground.
Lots of no shows, injuries and banged up players at OTA today. No T. Williams, Brendel, Kittle, CMC, Aiyuk, Jennings, Warner, Greenlaw, Collins, Ward and Hufanga. Should give last years backups and this years FA, UDFAs and draftees plenty of reps.
ReplyDeleteThe best part of the off season is the anticipation of the oncoming season.
ReplyDeleteUC,
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. By the 2nd week of TC things get a little snippy around here with debates on who makes the team and why. That's when you know football is in the air, lol.
Looking forward to Barrows' and Lombardi's training camp reports.
ReplyDeleteRazor,
ReplyDeleteI believe you live in a different state, but it would be nice to have you at TC as well.
Sounds like CMC might be holding out for a new contract. At his age and the miles he has on his tread I see the 9ers playing hard ball. It could get really ugly.
